Is there any music videos on this disc? Cause I know that it was mentioned in Newsweek that Lucas Grabeel finished one for "Best of Friends", unless they're saving it for F&H2.

Escapay
No music video.
we get a whole lot of nothing in this disc.
i wanted more 25th edition please.
the less then 10 minutes "making of" left me starving for more.
Ah, i figured as much.

don't like music videos anyway, just was curious. (BATBFan1 will be upset though, he likes the music videos).

Anyways, I've done some screencaps based on the ones here:

I think these are sufficient for now, but if anyone wants to see any of the others, just say which and I'll check on the disc.

It's brighter too, which I think helps the film more. The GC was slightly darker which didn't really look too good. But at the same time, with it brighter, it looks, I dunno...a bit older. Details are slightly better to, a bit more prominent, but still soft like you said.

Thanks!

Yeah, I was afraid that it'd turn out that the GC looked better than the AE based on the first, but those thoughts quickly changed when I did the second, and the third, and the fourth...

I wouldn't say it's a huge improvement in quality, but it's slightly better and brighter.

Anyway, I figured I'd do one more, with Tod and Copper...

As usual, bordered boxes are GC, rest of screen is AE

Im torn. some shots look okay when brighter, but in a lot of them, I think the darker version looks better. espcially the opening title shot. its hard to know for sure that was really intended.

thanks again lighthousemike for the most excellent preview. And Escapay for doing the comparisons screenshots. I new one looks less muddy and generally brighter and sharper. Nice restoration Disney.

I think the question we're all asking now is whether or not lighthousemike will get all the TLA DVDs and Treasures :P

Lighthousemike has done it again! You are awesome for taking the time to share with us images from the case and screen caps. And escapay, great comparison photos. I'm sure that took a lot of time and we are all very greatful. "The Fox and the Hound" for me has always been towards the end of my personal ranking of the classics, but it is still a charming film and I'm glad that the restoration seems to be of good quality. I own it on DVD from the gold collection and the few times I watched it, I felt it was a very grainy transfer and felt the colors were too dark. This restoration looks almost like they went to light, but I guess I'd rather have to light than to dark and maybe it was supposed to be this light. I wasn't alive when it was released in theaters and I think I was around 7 when it came out on VHS. I don't quite remember. I just remember being upset that it wasn't a musical. lol. Anyways, if it wasn't for the restoration, the brief making of, and the art gallery I would not be upgrading, but I guess this is probably the best edition this film will get for at least the next 5 years, so it'll do. Being the first animated classic of the 80's, I wish they would have included some more nostalgic supplements. Especially since most of the artists are still alive to talk about it and several of the current great animators at Disney got their start on this film. It seems to me that every time this film is released, it's fan base widens, so maybe when I'm 50 I'll see a 2-(whatever we are using by then) edition. lol. The equvelant of DVDs 2-disc special editions.

Well, Disney has always claimed that the film was filmed, and theatrically exhibited in fullscreen. However, that screen cap from the new DVD in comparison with the picture from IGN would beg to differ. The picture from the DVD has slightly more image to the left, but the picture on IGN has MUCH more image on the left. Of course you have to flip it. The left of the DVD scan is the right of the web image. Also, the web image's colors are much brighter and the quality is much clearer. I'm confused if that was an original background and cell from the film and the movie really was filmed in fullscreen, or if Disney just doesn't know and so they say it was fullscreen. I find it hard to believe that they would be wrong about something like this, but the original release of the GC version had the "this film has been modified from it's original version. It has been formatted to fit your screen" message on the case. Very interesting.

Hmm...either the GC has 4 extra seconds or the AE lost 4 seconds somewhere, lol.

Anyways, I didn't get a chance to do my cut and pastings with this one, as I'm working on something in Movie Maker at the moment, but here's a quick comparison cap.

thanks.

this shot definetly seems beter in the gold collection to me. the colors were more rich. the 25th edition seems a tad washed out.
