Sheesh...WDHV is getting about as bad as other studios on the double-dipping...this makes, what, the THIRD release?

Yes, but it'll be the first really good release. They know they can keep double dipping until they've released one really good release. After they do that, they'll have a harder time getting people to buy, unless it's on the next format.

What's so different bout the france dvd? is it way better than the United States' platinum releases, what are the bonus features? the france dvd editon sounds quite a treat from what I've heard so far.

No its not better than Platinum releases, as it only has two major new supplements - the 1924 silent version of the film which inspired Walt Disney and a documentary on the Nine Old Men (which is different to the Cinderella one)

The French cover look so european and quite attractive, hope we get something like that for the platinum...I especialy love the title's text, looks so much James Barrie's style.

I hope they include Peter Pan (1924) haven't seen it at all but just tiny clips thru various documents, do you know where I might find a copy of Peter Pan (1924)?. They better put all the energy in P.Pan's dvd like they did with Snow White's, course I hope they do continue the Inside Walt's Storyboards" thought that was the perfect audio commentary, would've done better for Snow White, Peter Pan, Jungle Book, Bambi, Pinnochio and Sleeping Beauty.

The 1924 Peter Pan was originally made by Paramount, but I believe I read Walt Disney purchased the rights to it when he initially started work on his Peter Pan, and I belive Disney does own the actual physical film. However, the copyright has passed into the public domain and Kino released a DVD in 2000 (Kino have a good reputation for high-quality public domain releases) and it can still be purchased.

However, I would wait, because I'm pretty sure it will appear on the upcoming 2 disc set - hopefully with commentary, especially if Disney do own it. (http://daisybooks.com/FAQS.html is one source that indicates they do, although they state the year as 1927 on that page)

Well from what I saw of the 1924 verison, looks very good and I notice Walt took some ideas from that verison which I thought was pretty smart for him.

Tink being a live fairy

Hook's Ship flying into the sky

Peter speaking to the Croc (in the 1924 film he's very near the croc)

I'll wait till Disney releases the contents of the Disney verison, let's pray that Disney will bring out the 1924 film on the 2nd disc.

Wow, a silent film on a Disney DVD, that would be pretty cool, as it would really appeal to fans and I think Disney would get praise for this. I'd appreciate something like this, since silent films are something that is seen very rarely, and it's a document of how movie making has changed throughout the decades.

It would certainly give 'em a new idea to expand the meaning of State of the art bonus features, still think the new C.E.O should be more hands on the Platinum Line ever since he brought back Oswald. Silent Films are starting to become exiled with the exceptions of Charlie Chaplin (my top fav.) Laurel And Hardy, etc.

Ooh, I can't wait! Sure, I like my Special Edition and all, but considering Pan is one of my all-time favorite Disney films, I'd say I'm all for an upgrade.

I won't care about that, as long as the RKO logo comes after the Walt Disney Pictures logo. But the idea of putting end credits to recognize those who had a hand in restoring the film for DVD just kind of irritates me. Can't they have like a separate screen available on disc one or disc two to recognize the restoration people instead of putting end credits after the film? Paramount did that for the Indiana Jones box set, and New Line does accredit the people who work on their DVDs as well.

I can't see why Disney can't do that as well. Oh well, as long as the new transfer is pristine and provided that they provide the original mono track and a better 5.1 remix, I won't care about that.

It won't; that's why I said "replaced." The first three seconds of score meant for the RKO title card will be played over the Walt Disney Pictures logo just like on Bambi and Cinderella.

This would be interesting. Too bad Mr. Driscoll isn't alive (drug overdose). I'm sure that Kathryn will have something to do with the DVD. I am sad/shocked that Disney decided to put PP for next year instead of One Hundred and One Dalmatians. I thought that Disney was going to release the original 10 Platinum Editions, and THEN the next 4, but I guess Disney decided to put them in any order they like. I do think the European 2-Disc Collector's Edition Cover Art looks really really good. I think that it is one of the best Cover Art's I have seen. It's really eye catching because, IMO, I don't think anyone had seen a DVD cover like that!

Anyway, I'm hoping that on THIS DVD, we will have a trailer for TJB, because I don't own TJB, and would really like to have the DVD. Hoping that that "Treasure Chest of Bonus Features" will be filled to the brim!! I can't wait to add this to my collection.

RKO (Radio-Keith-Orpheum) was the movie studio that distributed Disney shorts and films up until Lady and the Tramp (which was the first feature to be distributed by Buena Vista, though I think one of the early True-Life Adventures was distributed before LATT). According to wiki, it distributed Disney from 1936 to 1954, so about 18 years. I'm pretty sure before RKO, Disney's distributor was Columbia.

It's also been called RKO Radio Pictures, and was part of the Big Five studios (RKO, Warner Brothers, MGM, Fox, and Paramount) back in the old studio system days.

You are correct. The very first full length True-Life Adventures feature film was "The Living Desert" and was released on November 10th, 1953. RKO decided not to back the film. This wasn't the end of Disney teaming up with RKO, however. The Disney film released after TLD was "Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue," which premiered on February 4th, 1954, was destrubuted by RKO. After that, another True-Life Adventure, "The Vanishing Prairie" was released by Buena Vista and from that point on, all films were destributed by Disney themselves. So basically we have the True-Life Adventures series to thank for Disney gaining distribution independance. Although Roy had been urging Walt to do it years before.

And a feature about the voice talent would be great. Also, i would love for them to put out some deleted scenes. It would be interesting to see if they had originally planned to stay true to the JM Barrie book. I always wanted a really great live-action PP movie, and was mildly disappointed with the 2003 version. Having Capt Hook fly and the whole story revolve around the love between Peter and Wendy kinda pissed me off.

And I would love a music video!!
