Great idea for a thread. I've seen most, if not all, of Tron. I made the mistake of watching it when I wasn't prepared to focus and therefore didn't really get into it. Given that it's very dated and sort of out there to begin with, I need to give it another chance when truly in the mood to do so.

Tron had tons of special effects and I really love this movie while my whole family dislikes this movie. I tell my family without Tron maybe The Matrix wouldn't have looked so great.

Pals, this is the seventh Live-Action thread you've bumped up and added very little that people most likely already knew. Try giving the "Submit" button a rest! :P

Anyways, since I'm contributing to this bump, might as well post that I once tried sitting through the film on SciFi, but couldn't (mainly because it seemed to go to commercials every two minutes instead of every ten), and I've got the DVD, went through some features, but still have yet to actually watch the film in its entirety.

You have to see it; it's wonderful. With Christmas all up on us, this movie will make a great stocking stuffer.

I've been wanting to watch this again over the last few days. I may get around to it today, and even explore the DVD's second disc as well.

Another of my favorite things about this movie is its score. Definitely a product of the 1980's, those synths are so delicious to listen to. Absolutely a perfect score for the movie. :D

Tron not on Blu-ray yet because it's laughable and might turn people off from Tron Legacy? Read on...

http://blueskydisney.blogspot.com/2010/ ... blu-s.html

I can kind of understand this...I don't think that the original is laughable...but I can see why some younger people might not want to see the new one, because they might think that TL is going to be boring...at the same time, surely the original is important as far as the sequel goes...I mean, if you know the general backstory, I guess you'll be fine with understanding TL (I haven't seen the original in years, but even if I don't rent Tron first, I'm not too worried about following the plot in TL), but ignoring the original doesn't sound like a good move from Disney.

Yeah, I ain't buyin' what the author's sellin'. "Word has it" and "Rumor has it" are not phrases that inspire my confidence. Tron-mockers are hardly likely to evince a great deal of interest in the second installment anyway. I screened the original with a fifth- and seventh-grader a couple weeks back, their first exposure to the film---they quite enjoyed it and now they're tremendously excited about seeing the second installment. The studio doesn't need to worry about the opinions of folks who are too cool for school. The economy blows and they've got a home release holiday season lineup with some heavy hitters...I think they've just decided that it won't hurt to hold off and release both films to the home market simultaneously.

So now we at least know that the film is coming to blu ray, anyone else wondering what we'll get?

The older 2 disc SE was absolutely stunning in terms of content, better than most platinums.

It would be a shame if the blu ray didnt match it. But I have to say even if everything is carried across I'm dreading the quality.

You only have to look at the SD bonus features carried across onto blu rays, like Pirates of the Caribbean, even some of the platinums. It's not so much the SD upscaling that bothers me. It's more the interlaced transfers which just look abysmal on HD TVs.

Anyway, thought it would be an opportunity for updated opinion on the film.

Someone posted a list of bonus content from Amazon for both Trons here:

I made the rather dim mistake of perpetually intending to get the Tron DVD but always forgetting, only to find it eventually vaulted when the sequel came out, so I will definitely pick up the new release for the heck of it. Apparently the new release is going to carry everything over and include one new retrospective feature featuring photos taken on set (according to Amazon, anyway).

Well it's good news everything appears to be being carried over. The original 2 disc was extremely exhaustive.

My favorite thing about Tron is how intelligent it is; for a movie that has such stunning visual effects, it could easily be a throwaway popcorn movie intellectually, but it offers a pretty solid and complex storyline. Plus it's one of the most creative movies I've ever seen, in terms of personifying computer programs.

That's also a high point of Tron: Legacy. In addition to the truly stunning special effects (far superior to Avatar IMO), it also had a pretty complex story. I was very happy to see Disney's commitment to this high-concept idea.
