Ok. Since both "The Lion King" and "Kimba" are rip-offs of Bambi, how can you tell the simularities and differences between those? :?
Well, one of the biggest elements in Kimba was the relationships with humans and animals, something Bambi was about.

There are also more examples, but it would go to long to explain.

Overall, though, to say "The Lion King is a rip-off of Kimba" is not neccessarily 100% true. The Lion King was based on many stories, most particular, Hamlet.

Besides, Osamu Tezuka ripped of many of Disney's work many times.
Thanks for the clarification about the "Kimba vs. Simba debate".

Although, Tezuka was influenced by Disney and Fleischer brothers. I couldn't explain about his influences of two greatest animators but his later works is another story.

You could say that "Astro Boy" is a rip-off of Pinocchio, SuperMan, and The Jetsons combined. Even Capcom's Megaman is a rip-off from Astroboy. So I guess your thesis statement proves it right. Everything is a rip-off. :P

Either way, Tezuka's manga books were very enjoyable to read.

The story is not boring, whatsoever, it is about a girl that has to learn the ropes of life, and has adventure along the way. I guess you can't appreciate good movies, but would rather whallop in the crappy movies like Chicken Little.
I have only seen the English dub because I don't want to read subtitles for EVERY SINGLE WORD!

The voices definetely don't fit IMO. Also Kiki's little adventures like delivering some cake to a family and hanging around with some cat. Not too exciting imo. I do really think Chicken Little is a more relatable film than Kiki. Chicken Little is about a flawed person who just wants to make his parents proud. Something I can somewhat relate too, more so than Kiki.

Also, for the Kimba debate, technically, Kimba is actually a rip-off of Bambi, so they really ripped off each other.
T/P Fan, I'm gonna take a stab that based on this and your feelings on Return of the King, you are a fan of movies that are immediately satisfying. There's not much wrong with that, whatever floats your boat. But the point of Kiki's Delivery Service, just like My Neighbor Totoro and Whisper of the Heart, is not to excite and thrill the audience, and it's also not to spoon-feed them with a very obvious premise that countless other movies have. In the films I listed, the character development is very subtle, in fact closer to real life than perhaps any "fantasy" movies I've ever seen. Sure, Kiki is a witch, but that's really beside the point. The story is really just about her being a typical teenager and going through what others her age do, and her being a witch is no more than a metaphor for what any child who may feel left out and misunerstood goes through.

Kiki's Delivery Service, like real life, features no supervillains or outrageous adventures because that's how life is. If you go in expecting a flashy thrill ride like in, say, Castle in the Sky, then you are going to be sorely disappointed, because it is a completely different kind of movie. Miyazaki films can be hard to understand because he likes to make the audience think and take away their own lessons from the film instead of having the characters spell them out Care Bears-style every ten minutes. I mean, I love Lilo and Stitch, but that "ohana means family" thing started getting on my nerves. I was thinking, okay already, I get the idea, they're gonna stick together even if Stitch has to hijack a spaceship to make it happen  Meanwhile, Princess Mononoke confused the daylights out of me the first time I saw it, but the more I watched it, the more I took away, and I slowly grew to consider it my very favorite film. Same thing with Kiki: there is a point there, you just have to pay attention to get it. It's sure not gonna be one of the lines in the trailer.

So faulting a movie for not being obvious and actually making you think isn't really fair, in my opinion. Not liking a movie is one thing, but I don't think you're really giving some movies a fair shake.

Well for me it's difficult. I actually really like Spirited Away and consider it one of the greatest non-Disney animated films of all time. Kiki just bores me.

As for Return of the King, I like Fellowship, I loved Two Towers, ROTK just overstayed its welcome.

So I do like all certain types of movies. I also respect everyone's opinion, I just didn't like Kiki's Delivery Service.

I actually don't think it's because the plot was slow, though that certainly is a big part, but the characters. I guess I can't relate to Kiki which really kills the film for me.

Anyway, I'm not sure why I'm argueing. This list is Johnboy's list, not mine or even a critic's list. I'm just somewhat sadden by all The Lion King hatin'! :(

Well, Johnboy is the rare person in the US who has actually seen the Kimba series, so whether The Lion King was a rip-off or not, that is going to be on his mind and affects the way he feels about it, especially since he apparently saw Kimba first. I've certainly heard a LOT worse from hardcore Kimba fans who were all crying LAWSUIT!!! when The Lion King came out.

Same thing with Atlantis, which was accused of ripping off Laputa: Castle in the Sky and/or Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (Nadia was actually accused of ripping off Laputa, but that's another story). Anyway, there's a whole Nadia fangroup that relentlessly picks on Atlantis for daring to be similar, when in reality the stories are different enough so that direct plagiarism is probably not a fair charge.

Not to discredit Johnboy's opinions at all, but his viewpoint is at least different from other people on the board who are not huge Lion King fans.
