Ditto. Dean Cain was my first Superman as well, so I pretty much prefer him over any other (especially over Tom Welling and Brandon Routh).

The best Superman is actually the Timm/Dini animated one. And I'll fight anyone who insists otherwise.* Out of the live-action ones, George Reeves is actually the best. Those old Adventures of Superman my look old and corny, but they're actually surprisingly good and lots of fun.

* No I won't. But I may pull faces at them (if they aren't looking at me at the time)

I've seen enough of Brandon Routh on One Life to Live (he was Seth from 2001-2002, before they mercifully recasted his character with a slightly-better-but-still-bad actor), and he's just another pretty-boy who should give back his SAG card.

Besides, he doesn't have that...Clark Kent-esque quality to him. He looks fine as Superman (well, maybe Fleischer Superman), but his Clark Kent doesn't look...Kentish. Reeves, Reeve, and Cain all had a very Kentish look. Routh looks like a pre-transformation character on a makeover episode of some sitcom where you've got this good looking person hiding behind ugly clothes and glasses, and all the main character does is take the glasses off and stick them in some Abercrombie and Fitch get-up.

I actually enjoy Welling's Clark quite a bit. He brings a new type of Clark to the table. One that besides being sometimes geeky and shy, also shows a great sence of loyalty and strength. It's perhaps the ONLY Superman character I've truely related to as a human being.

Woah - Brandon Routh is the new Superman? Holy hell, I'm a big fan of his! In a way that I don't follow his career and have only seen him in 1 thing. But in that one thing, I'm a huge fan. He has an unbelievable body. I guess I'll have to get my insiders to get me into this one early after all!

Unfortunately. Would've preferred Matt Bomer or Henry Cavill, both who were contenders when Brett Ratner was originally slated to direct the film.

I will give you the body thing, though. He's got the perfect build for a classic Supes, like the Fleisher Superman.

What was the one thing you saw him in? Based on his imdb, he's only done two shows as a series regular (One Life to Live and MTV's Undressed), and has had a few one-episode guest spots, plus one other movie I've never heard of.

Gosh, I know what you mean. Wasn't he at one point a music video director? Before/after making the short film that became Rush Hour? Or do I have the wrong director? That's the same guy, right?

The second you said his name, I immediately said to myself they just chose him because he's a TV vet (which does not speak to their credibility) who looks the part (because he sure looks the part). I'm a fan of his work on Undressed. I meant what I said about his body being unbelievable, I had to accept the fact that I was seriously attracted to a guy who, in his underwear, actually has a muscularity (with a pastey skin complection and weak elasticity) that looks silicone-enhanced. Probably the fault of poor camera angles (that show is sort of notorious for it's poor camerawork). He had the muscles, but somehow it looked like loose flab at a certain unflattering angle. But he is a big guy with a very hulking muscularity not done proper justice by MTV.

That's the double-edged sword, unfortunately. Would Supes be better with Bomer or Cavill in the role but Ratner directing...or Routh in the role but Singer directing?

Too bad it couldn't be Singer and Cavill, who every time I think about it, would definitely be the better Supes.

Where? When? I didn't know there was a special topic for that sort of thing and I'm going to start one, I never thought anyone would be that impressed. But it's still a fact. And I never mentioned it in the What Was the Last Movie You Saw discussion because there are a lot of movies I don't mention in that topic. I see a lot more movies than I talk about.

I have friends who work inside the studios who do work promoting (who are in correspondance with the TV Guide Channel and AMC network) and testing several new movies (mostly for 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks). When they do test screenings before putting together TV advertisements, or for critics on several newspapers, I often get a chance to see them before a lot of other people.
