Curious George (2006)

I took my almost 6 year old daughter to see Curious George and we both loved it. I'm a first grade teacher, and when I hear of all the things my students who are 6 and 7 are watching, it was refreshing to have a film come out that is so simple, so light-hearted and carefree.

I loved the beginning of the movie where George is entertaining himself with playing with other animals (causing a chameleon to change colors according to the animals he put in front of him). He was so cute that I kept catching myself saying "ahhhh" like I would a cute puppy in a store window. The story was simple, and the music was great. The ending left it open to there being a second one, but if there is, I hope it is as good as the first.

Like I said, I loved it and will be buying it on dvd, but I like innocent, wholesome movies unlike most of the movies that are out now, AKA Brokeback Mountain

I didn't join the forums until a couple of weeks ago, and I found this topic so I wanted to input my thoughts.

My name is George and I loved reading "Curious George" books as a kid because I shared my name with that mischevious monkey. When I heard about the film, I was excited. At first it was going to be a live-action one with a CGI George, but I was really delighted to find out that they had changed the plans and made it a hand-drawn animated movie instead.

So, I watched it on opening day (wearing 2-3 name tags) with my cousin (who's a school teacher) and we enjoyed the film a lot. It was a sweet, adorable, and charming film that stays true to the children's books.

I'm happy it did well at the box office ($58.3 million), and I can't wait for it's DVD release (tentatively scheduled for September).

This was actually previously scheduled to be released to DVD June 27th. I actually went to the store expecting it to be there, and zip - nada. I was pretty bummed.

I went online, and comingsoon.net still doesn't have an estimate on the DVD release - but the message boards on imdb say October 3rd.

Seeing as that's The Little Mermaid's release - it would be a pretty poor business decision.

I hope it's sooner than that - I miss seeing the little monkey!
