How do you collect your DVDs?

I'd say that I'm Number 5 on your list. Only I have around 70 DVDs as opposed to 100.

Definitely the frugal collector...if I have the DI, then I can maybe get a few more, otherwise, I seriously pick and choose what I buy.

I'd say im a mix of 4 and 5, with a bit of completist

(but not too much) it all depends what the movies is i suppose

I'm The Average Collector and sometimes an Aficionado with a little over 300 DVD's.

7. The Aficionado -

1) Use CD notebook holders for DVDs to store them
2) I just purchased The Aviator (for $7.25) just because it has a good reputation and Marty directed it. Now I have 12 Marty movies.
3) Including Christmas I have purchased 8 WB box sets in 2005 (about 45 movies) of which only about half the movies are worth buying by themselves.
4) The magic number is six. That is how many Hitchcock American films I do not own. (24 is the number of American Hitchcock movies I have plus 2 of his British.)
5) I have a list of all Disney & WB threatical cartoons and tracking which ones I have on DVD, including the ones I get as extras.
6) I am just finishing Mary Tyler Moore Season 1. I have enjoyed watching it but have not loved watching it. I am fighting the urge to buy Season 2 & 3. (And Season 2 is only $16 on Amazon.)

I'm probably the frugal collector. I do not like a lot movie genres, and I mainly buy non-rated R and family movies, such as Disney, etc. The Simpsons is an exception

I would say I am a mix between a #4 and a #10. I just recently reached over the 250 dvd mark.

Thank you for the compliment Escapay. I am truly an Aficiando, but also I am that guy at Best Buy at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. They know me by name and usually know what movies I am coming after. The biggest insult was when I showed up one week, and they had all the movies I was going to buy already in a bag and were just awaiting my bucks.............what a bringdown. I didn't get to shop and it was like they were glad to get me in and out of there.

I am #5: The Average Collector. If I see a single disc version of a movie right next to a multi-disc version, I'll pick up the multi-disc version without any hesitation. Bonus features don't make me buy the DVD though; the movie does. I've got about 100 DVDs in my collection as well, so I'm in the number range for the average collector.

I know it had to be disappointing though. I love going and grabbing my movies by myself at Best Buy.

The people at my Best Buy hate checking me out. I always go up to the register with my weekly ads to get better prices.

Great thread! I think you've got most personality types nailed there

I swing wildly between 5. The Average Collector and 8. The Big Spender.

For the most part, I love a very wide selection of movies, from trash to genuine Treasures. If there are bonus features on those movies, great, but for the most part I am happy to just have certain movies. At other times, if a DVD package looks really good I will get it based purely on that (e.g. Hulk 3-Disc).

There are times when I will go on a spree, and I can't be stopped. I am, per your example, one of the people that owns almost every episode of Star Trek on DVD (although it did take me a loooong time).

When it comes to Disney, I can be something of a completist. While I certainly don't have every Disney film on DVD, I do have pretty much all of the animated ones, and a fair chunk of other live action stuff. I'm more likely to blind-buy a Disney film than any other kind.

My other weakness is TV on DVD. I'm a sucker for a nice-looking boxset, and I own more TV on DVD than I could possibly watch again. Am currently ploughing my way through Dallas - Season 3 if that is any indication as to how far I've sunk!

I'd say I'm a Hybrid Collector. I love almost any film, and some aren't as special to me as others. I'll splurge on films such as The Wizard of Oz, but, I'm good with a One-Disc DVD when the "Deluxe" version is a piece of fluff (ex. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)

I guess I'm average. I have a little over 200 DVDs and I have all different kinds of genres. I don't have all 44 of the animated classics nor do I want all of them. I usually buy what I like. Some have been blind buys of course. I buy movies my husband would like too so it's all mixed up.

I don't believe in completism. But I have my own standards on what I have to have and what I can pass up. So in essence, I am a completist. I just get what I want. At least, I think...

I'm mostly between #3 and #4 since I mostly collect them when my favorite movie is out or catches my interests (Lady and the Tramp, as an example). I also collect at least 15 special/platinum/limited/etc editions that have a restoration, bonus features that talks about the movie, and a digipack such as Cinderella. Although, I have money problems so I collect a few in my time. Right now, I have 49 movies but my runner up is "Disney Rarities" (which it wasn't released until December 6), so that leads me up to 50 movies I have. =P

To all of you who have 100 or more movies, you must've been rich or something. (That's an opinion, but just to my tastes

).

I like to think that I'm an Average Collector. At last count, I had over 350 DVDs, though many of them are single-disc editions of movies I enjoy, while my favorites are in the better editions. Of course, there are some exceptions, as some movies have wonderful single-disc editions (Newsies and Superman the Movie come to mind).

Well, I've analyzed my DVD buying habits this summer and realized I went from Average Collector (circa November 2005) to Aficionado (circa Summer 2006). My DVD purchases since Florida though have been few and far between as I've had my "epiphany" that just because it's a good movie (or a great movie or a lousy movie, or good/great/lousy tv show) doesn't mean I need to get it if it's on DVD. So, I've slowly been trying to commit myself to trying to be a Frugal Collector. Though, of course, I end up being the Aficionado again if I find a really really great deal on used DVDs at GameStop or E/B Games. But I'm really trying to limit my DVD buying habits.
