I know. The poster makes me really emotional also. I have no clue what factors have contributed cause of all the really bad disney movies recently (compared to beauty and the beast)

Disney Duster wrote:Even though it would be nice to have a completely new design for The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition cover, history shows us that it will probably be a revamped version of the old VHS cover art.

I Think what most people want to know is, Will it be the cover art that was recalled or not........ ( you know with out our little friend popping up!)

I think that they should do something arty; I love the idea of a nautical colour themed box that has a digipack inside that opens up to reveal the discs on a picture of a castle under the sea...

...but I predict floating heads instead.

This is definitely my favorite cover. When I first read this thread, this is the picture I was thinking of. But I do agree... i think it is a little too plain for it to be cover worthy.

Look at Aladdin:

Notice how in both covers Jasmine and Aladdin are on the carpet at the left, while Jafar and Iago are still in the bottom right and making the same poses!

Now, look at Cinderella:

Notice how in both covers Cinderella and the Prince are dancing in the same position, and the castle is to their right in the background.

So, the old VHS cover for The Little Mermaid will probably be used for the DVD cover, just redrawn and moved around a bit.
To say the truth, I would be very glad if the Little Mermaid Platinum Edition cover will be the old one:

redraw and a little bit moved around!

It just bring me so much memories... The Little Mermaid is my favourite disney movie, and the first one I saw in a theater, that's why I just can't wait for a Platinum Edition full of extras and a great cover art! :)

I agree with you...

How could they get into an other dark period???

The formula is so simple, and they used it to do such great movies, why can't they do it again???

Why they seem to get worst and worst, deciding to do all their movies with CGI characteres and Sets???

I'm still hoping that they come to their senses and save Rapunzel, that could be the return of the Disney's sucess! Please we don't want more Home on the Range, and Chiken Little! Please don't mix the CGI movies line with the classic movies line!!! Give us Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, etc... :(

Oh, come now, you haven't even seen Chicken Little yet. Only a priviledged few have watched it so far. How do you know it's bad?

EDIT: Crap, I forgot to stay on-topic! Out of the ones that have been posted, I'd say it's a tie between the one I posted earlier and the one that was just posted. They both look great.

The story could be funny, but seeing the CGI characters and the teasers and trailers, I can tell that is not the kind of movie that I like...

It won't be a classic masterpiece, I feel that even if the story would be great, it won't be more than just an ordinary movie... It's hard for me to explain, but I am sure that it won't be an imortal classic, with beautiful design, great characteres, great music, etc... And that is what I'm expeccting from Disney! :(

Something like the little mermaid...

Well that's easy to predict. You see, half the jokes in the trailer are either kiddiy-ish (Home on the Range style) or base themselves on modern day enteraintment (like the corn field joke). It's a movie that relies on modern day influence to succeed, thus making it not timeless like The Little Mermaid.

I've had enough with the comdies. I'm ready for another fairytale / drama / musical.

I like the picture brownie posted but we won't see that but hey maybe they could use that style for a collector's edition giftset box so the floating heads cover can remain unseen inside. :)

Yeah, the gift sets always just have a simple image on the outside. Cinderella has the glass slipper with the castle in the background & Aladdin had the cave of wonder's Lion's head so maybe they would use the poster image on the gift box.

Yes, it's exactly what I meant! It's seems to be a very plain movie without depth...

Much like Home on the Range, and even worst because of the CGI characteres!

I'm also ready for a musical fairytale, drama or adventure...

I would like to see a cover like that:

This one I made by myself, it's a little simple ad pretty much the original one, but I'd like that they make it just like that with new drawings!

I strongly agree with everything you've said here, Gwildor, as I'm sure most members of this forum do. Nothing would make me happier than to see Disney release another romantic fairy tale that would be remembered for something other than its slapstick comedy or A-list voice actors. Something deep and poignant, without a whiff of contemporaneity. If Rapunzel Unbraided was to be animated traditionally and wasn't going to be, according to IMDB, about teenagers who were "sick to death of storybook endings where true love conquers all," I would have more hope for it than I do. As it is, I would be much happier if it was based more closely on the original fairy tale -- sans sardonic modern-day teens -- in which true love really does conquer all.

Sorry for straying like the little lost lamb that I am. To get back on topic, I love the 1998 movie poster, but of course it's much more artsy and ethereal than anything we'll ever see as a Platinum cover.

I guess the problem is that Disney cares more about money, than good quality movies!
They prefer do "fastCGImovies" for children to laugh like idiots, than make the movies that took Disney to glory in the past...

With those stupid CGI's movies they spend less money and win cold hard cash... :x

It's so more easy to get money that way than risk the chances trying to make a great classic movie... Just like they did right on the very beggining of Disney!

It's a shame...

Thank you! Lol!

A little bit amateur... It could be better, but at least I tried hard to do a good work!

Now for real, I basically like the idea a lot! That original 1989 cover redraw in the way that I tried to do, would be the perfect cover for me! :)
