Yes, we did do this once before but...

The Cure
Skinny Puppy
New Order/Joy Division
Front 242
Frontline Assembly
KMFDM
Covenant
Apoptygma Beserk
Assemblege 23
VNV Nation
The Cruxshadows

I just recently started getting into the last band there. Really good gothy/synthpop. I like angry electronic music (aka: electro/industrial/EBM), some synthpop, some goth, soundtracks and old punk...the newer punk bands can play and sing too well!

Is there anybody on this planet that likes The Flaming Lips?

Ash?
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club?
Blur?
Death From Above 1979?
(The) Eagles of Death Metal?
Elliott Smith?
Frank Zappa?
Ima Robot?
Modest Mouse...before 2004?
Oasis?
Phish?
The Postal Service?
Spoon?
Tripping Daisy?

That's me going as abstract as possible while still staying in the boundaries of "bands I really like." The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Barenaked Ladies, Coldplay, Gorillaz, Johnny Cash, and Pink Floyd were obvious choices that are generally implied (well, most of those are).

I like Blur and Oasis, but I wouldn't call them favorites. I haven't heard of the others.

Easier to say what I don't like than what I like:

Don't Like

Any rap crap
Classical Opera
Spaced out Jazz (where 10 instruments go 10 different ways and meet at the end of record)
No-talent singers such as: Britney Spears, Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, any of the so-called Disney new talents, most 'boy-toy' groups that include singers like Justin Timberlake (?).

What I Do Like

The Tragically Hip
The Who
Rolling Stones
The Beatles
Mariah Carey
Amy Grant
Garth Brooks
Reba McIntire
Gretchen Wilson
Blink 182
Incubus
Chevelle
Tool
Metallica
Neil Diamond
Barry Manilow
Queen
REM
Styx
Heart
Fleetwood Mac
Steve Winwood
Motown Hits of the 60s and 70s

just about anything that makes me want to get up and dance. I like good music, from the classics of the 30s to most of the rock of the new 21st Century.

I wholeheartedly second this, which is pretty wierd for someone my age

Other than them, I listen to a lot of classic rock and otherwise good music from years past: Beatles, Stones, Hendrix, Crosby Stills & Nash, Eagles, Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Earth Wind & Fire, Eric Clapton, so on and so forth. My favorite active band, although they've been around the block a bit, is U2.

In other genres, I like to listen to music scores and some classical (mostly early 20th century...I'm not a huge Mozart fan, etc.). The Planets suite by Gustav Holst is a particular favorite of mine. And I can never get enough of Joe Hisaishi's movie scores; I even ordered a Porco Rosso soundtrack from Japan to get a hold of the music. He's a really amazing composer.

Oh, and here's my own obscure artist: anyone else here like Squirrel Nut Zippers? 8)
Oh, I'm sorry, you're all standing...here, let me make you a chair!

Karushifa's Random Top 5 of the Week: US National Parks/Sites:
1) Yosemite N.P.
2) Caribbean Nat'l Forest (Puerto Rico)
3) Death Valley N.P.
4) Cape Lookout Nat'l Seashore
5) Sequoia N.P.

Wow, for a minute I thought I was the only one here who liked Metallica. I only like there old school stuff after they made their "Black" album they went down hill. Especially after they cut their hair. :P
I also liked how they got rid of their first lead guitar player (Dave Mustaine) and he went on to make one of the best metal bands ever... Megadeth.

Alright Barlowgirl.........I will ask........who are these people. Never heard of any of them except for Cece Winans. Are these all teeny-bopper Disney no-talents, or what? Sorry, just asking, but I couldn't find any recordings by any of these except for Cece Winans.

I could ask the same thing - never heard of them. Not that I really care, though. There IS a lot of music around - just dig deeper, and you'll find much you've never heard about - way down in the underground.

Aly and AJ are those two twins from the Disney Channel, Carrie Underwood was the last American Idol winner, and the rest (or at least the majority of them) are Christian artists.

Yes. Dave is right. They're not teeny boppers by any means.

I don't come across many people who even know who they are. I have the "For the Sake of the Call" album and it's quite good.

I like Madonna... I have 28 of her songs on my iPod... I just wouldn't consider her a "favorite." Actually, I haven't really heard much of her stuff outside of the mainstream radio hits, though I do own Ray of Light and the Evita soundtrack. I suspect that a lot of people here probably like her, but just don't count her among their favorites (of those who have posted, anyways).
