You can say that about the Simpsons!

Spongebob (the show) is all messed up. I thought Doug was a WHOLE lot better show.
That has got to be a joke. Now while I enjoy The Simpsons, I don't think it's a very good family show. I mean I'm surprised alot of kids like it because most of the jokes go way over kid's heads. I mean there are refrences to everything at Hollywood, I doubt kids are going to die laughing at that. Plus there is alot of cussing and occasional sex jokes in The Simpsons. I would rather show kids SpongeBob than than the Simpsons.

Plus you can't compare Doug to SpongeBob. Even if you did SpongeBob still blows both versions of Doug out of the water.

Not for me when I was a kid but I get what you mean... most kids on average are going to get more of the 'toilet humour' rather than the satire.

I prefer Futurerama, King of the Hill, South Park and a few others, Simpsons has been on way too many years, ans Spongebob is good but gets annoying

My favorites:

Anything Loony Tunes
The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show(my favorite t.v. show)
Yogi Bear
The Flinstones
Probably all the DA Shows

I personally like all these shows better than both SpongeBob and the Simpsons.

I can't think of one classic cartoon The Simpsons hasn't bested yet. Seriously, for their time, all the oldies were wonderful. But The Simpsons is the greatest U.S. animated cartoon television series of all time. It's funny, sly, clever, hilarious, intelligent, satirical / sarcastic, witty, charming, has real characters who have expanded their depth further than any other American cartoon, doesn't take itself seriously, mocks itself at times, comments unseriously on current events, and has a legacy we're still collectively in awe of. It's won / been nominated for nearly as many awards as The Carol Burnette Show, without being live action. It creeped into our merchandising culture on a scale like no other show has, cashing in on phrases like "eat my shorts", "d'oh!", and "uhhh... donuts". Even managed to be referenced to by U.S. Presidents. Gave Hank Azaria a mainstream film & TV career. Inspired South Park, The Family Guy / American Guy, King of the Hill, and many live action shows. It was both a product of the times, and made the times a product of it.

I personally think calling The Simpsons "the greatest cartoon series ever made" or "the funniest show ever" a bit of an exageration.

I mean I really like it but I think there have been alot of bad episodes. Plus there have been good characters, but alot of bad ones too. Some characters are so lame, I wonder why include them. The only real reason to watch The Simpsons is because of Homer. He is one of the funniest cartoon characters on Earth. There are alot of good other good points too, but there were weak points for sure.
So over all it's funny, but there are much better things animated IMO. But of all the adult comedy series, I agree that this is the best one.

Are you saying better animation or better shows? Would you share an example of a better animated show?

Well I'm saying there were better animated shows and movies IMO! But that's just my opinion. I mean The Simpsons is an hilarious show, but at times I do feel it's overrated like with this list for example: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... t=simpsons

The series has been running for longer time than any other cartoon show. Wonder why that is?

A little off topic but what do you think is the show with the best animation ever? (animated shows only) I love The Simpsons but I don't think it's the greatest in terms of animation. Nice animation but what style do you think is best?

I could start a new topic if Sponegbob fans protest to this OT post.

First of all, who said a thing about movies? This is limited to TV here. A television show is radically different than a movie, the two are invented in different formats which makes the rules of both completely different. Second, I asked you to name a few examples, not to direct me to another post, if you're adding your 2 cents in, I want your opinion, not that of other people. Are you prepared to even answer that question? If you think there are better cartoon shows, you should already have examples ready...

For the record I agree SOME of the episodes were disappointing, but there is no such thing as a perfect television series, even in animation. But this show overall was never overrated. This show comes closer to perfection than any other animated series.

1. Well the link I provided had a list that put The Simpsons as the best thing animated!(Moives, television and cartoon characters)

2. I believe I did mentioned shows I liked above. Now that I think about it, The Simpsons was better than Yogi Bear and The Flinstones, it was even better than several of the DA shows, however I prefer Loony Tunes and DuckTales to the Simpson. But my all time favorite show(animated or non-animated) is the Rocky and Bullwinkle show. I even read that Matt Groening(creator of the Simpsons) was the #1 Rocky and Bullwinkle fan.

3. Yeah no show is perfect, but there are alot of people on the internet that believe The Simpsons is divine. Too be fair there were some episodes that were just okay, so overall I still like the show very much, but I get a bit tired hearing that this is the "best animated show ever"!

Are you sure you got the right person? The creator of the Simpsons was Matt Groening, not Matt Grogan.
