i want to see more mickey and his friends and i hope disney will make the perils of mickey.
In terms of popularity, you can not underestimate the power of sound in 1928 movies. Not only did Mickey have sound but it was done well and it is still incredibly charming almost 80 years later. The early attempts at sound were not as bad as Singin' In The Rain experiments but most of the sound output in '28 & '29 was quite lame.
Another point about Mickey was he was a much more endearing character than the rascals Felix or Oswald. These characters sometimes appearred to be animated versions of the Chaplin Tramp.
