Re: Moana
He's just a small antagonist, and won't be the big villain. Also a lot of the voice actors they got are from New Zealand who are of Moari descent, in order to get some real Polynesians onto this movie. At least Disney is getting more actors of color to play their character's race. I mean in Aladdin and Mulan, they just hired actors of many ethnicities to do the voices.disneyprincess11 wrote:-So glad a WDAS princess finally has both parents alive who are actually active.

My bad, I meant to say that they're making the crab look like the villian when he really isn't

Re: Moana
are we in for yet another Turbo style villain reveal?
My money is on the rooster. They keep making a big deal about how stupid he is, but its probably just an act & he's the real mastermind behind all the trouble.

Re: Moana
Speaking of Hei Hei, his design has changed a bit to fit his new personality:

I think the change is probably for the better, because before he seemed too similar to Sebastian from The Little Mermaid in the sense that he was also tasked by King Triton to keep an eye on Ariel.
I like the designs of the new revealed characters and I'm also glad Moana has a mother.

Source: http://collider.com/comic-con-2016-moan ... s-to-know/The rooster Hei Hei, another of Moana’s companions, was originally conceived as a total jerk, planted as a watchdog by Moana’s father. Something about the antagonistic character wasn’t resonating, though, so they ended up changing one little thing that made all the difference: they made Hei Hei very, very dumb. The walleyed rooster seems to be pretty useless, but at least “he tries,” asserted Bush. “He tries really hard.”

Re: Moana
Well, I like the new photos and it's good that Moana will have a mother. However, I'm a little skittish about Nicole Scherzinger in the part. I knew she was Polynesian, but I just can't see her as an voice actress. I have nothing against her, but I just can't picture her in the part. But she could always prove me wrong.
I'll confess that I'm a little worried about Hei Hei. I hope he won't be that annoying.

Both ideas were bad, in my opinion. They should have just scrapped the character entirely. Hei Hei already comes across as annoying, stupid, and useless as a character.D82 wrote:I think the change is probably for the better, because before he seemed too similar to Sebastian from The Little Mermaid in the sense that he was also tasked by King Triton to keep an eye on Ariel.
Honestly, I'm getting kind of worried about the movie. From what we know so far, it seems it has a really good first act (because of Musker & Clement's storytelling sensibilities) but then in the second act Lasseter's influence comes in and it all goes downhill from there. None of the elements onwards appeal to me: the buddy-road trip aspect, the episodic nature of the narrative, meeting obnoxious secondary characters like the crab and the coconut pirates that have no real function except to waste screen time.

Tbh, I still think Lasseter told them to re-create TLM in as many ways as possible. Ocean setting, girl coming of age story, father who bans his daughter from theD82 wrote: I think the change is probably for the better, because before he seemed too similar to Sebastian from The Little Mermaid in the sense that he was also tasked by King Triton to keep an eye on Ariel.
I actively despise Nicole Scherzinger. Thankfully the mother's part will probably be as large as Fa Li in Mulan, so I won't have to hear her except for a couple of tiny lines. I don't blame M&C for casting her and The Rock, since I doubt they were given much control. 2016 has really gone down in flames.

And we already had one with BraveDisney's Divinity wrote:Tbh, I still think Lasseter told them to re-create TLM in as many ways as possible. You even get the cut grandmother from TLM tale.

Most likely. For all the flack that Disney receives about Princesses lacking their mother, why not using the mother when you have her? Besides, it would've been neat to see another mother/daughter story and not just another Freaky Friday reboot.Thankfully the mother's part will probably be as large as Fa Li in Mulan, so I won't have to hear her except for a couple of tiny lines.
Agreed. His design is unappealing and I'm fearing the worst. They should have just scrapped the character (the crab) entirely
Frankly, I remember being somewhat skittish towards The Princess and the Frog as well when the movie was approaching it's release date. Mostly because of the side characters (Louis, Ray and Charlotte) and the comedy seeming blatant and off-putting. But fortunately they weren't as grating within the movie as they've could've been (heck, Charlotte was somewhat fun). So I'm not taking any conclusions with Moana yet.Honestly, I'm getting kind of worried about the movie. Re: Moana
Dang! All of the negativity here. But, you guys do have great points. The giant crab and the coconut pirates are definitely from John Lasseter and his power. Musker and Clements wouldn't write these characters-or at least take it more seriously. I do worry about these two characters because they sound phoned in as if they're trying to be hip and cool. Especially the crab who sounds extremely pointless as the lava goddess (who is NOT announced for some reason) could be the one who has the fishing hook to make the story more appealing and serious. But, hey: That's not appealing to tweens and 5 year olds.
I feel like that this movie might be excellent, but Lasseter is stripping it away from its true potential.
