Then I say 1 hr. 45 min. would be the best bet for Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," to last.Candy-Bonita95 wrote:I doubt it would be 65 minutes long.Polizzi wrote:I believe that it is 65 min. of animation that Disney has completed so far, and they have the rest of animation to do that lasts for 40 min. If you add 65 and 40 together, then you get 105 min. of animation total. Which means that Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," could last for 1 hr. 45 min., maybe. I must say, that animated movie could have last for 2 hrs. besides 1 hr. 45 min., that would make it the very first computer animated movie in the U.S. to last about or over 2 hrs., probably because of the musical numbers that they have added. If the movie does last for 1 hr. 5 min., then it would not be as a long animated movie as we expected. It would require almost two hours because there is character development,psycho-drama,romance,and song. The comedy is just subtly carried out through the movie.

Well, here is a quick couple minute sketch I did of your character (for example):Super Aurora wrote:Then it must be you aren't doing it properly. I use to have this problem, but I was able fix this problem. Key here is use a kneed eraser and/or electric eraser. Erasing is not that much different from your skills in drawing. in fact erasing is a very essential part of drawing.

As you can see, this is what my sketches look like without the eraser, details, or shading. My lines just don't have the flow that Rob displays and are messy. Some of my problems are obvious, like I'm REALLY out of practice (I used to draw every day, in my planner, in 7th grade but not much since then). I really only draw maybe once or twice a year, my art teacher would kill me if he heard that, as I mainly resort to small thumbnails in computer animation (stick figures for body and circle heads with faces for facial expressions/lip sync). I'm thinking if I got back into drawing, looked at my anatomy book I bought months ago but never read and then started doing some gesture drawings, I might be able to capture some flow and direction with my lines. I don't know, I can try the eraser but I'm sure some practice is what I need most.
BTW: I know I exaggerated your proportions and posing. We have to make these clear silhouettes using extreme posing in animation and it's become a habit of mine. Since I wanted a quick sketch, I just did what was natural to me. No disrespect to your character.
Not quite:estefan wrote:Cars and The Incredibles are both two hours long.

Well, almost. I was just correcting Polizzi that Tangled wouldn't be the first computer-animated film to run almost two hours long. I'm not 100& positive, but I think Cars and Incredibles might be the longest-running CGI animated films. Most seem to fall in the 90-minute mark, 100 minutes at most. Same deal with hand-drawn features (with Fantasia being one of the major exceptions, at a little over two hours).jpanimation wrote:Not quite:estefan wrote:Cars and The Incredibles are both two hours long.

Interesting that a lot of animated films aren't that long. Is it because producers fear that people don't want to watch animation for more than 90 minutes. I remember in a documentary discussing Snow White, that one of the reason many people thought it would be a flop was that nobody would want to watch an animated film for more than 10 minutes.

A rumor, it's worth noting, that came from the exact same site whose post everyone is analyzing. Sorry, but these guys are full of beans. I wouldn't believe them even if they swore they were lying.Candy-Bonita95 wrote:It doesn't seem like they won't be ready for November. The postpone rumor was just a rumor.
The test screening in May was nowhere near 2 hours. I didn't check my watch, but I'd say about 90 minutes.
Agreed. The Animation Guild Blog is probably the most reliable, I think, when it comes to how Tangled's production is coming along.mawnck wrote:A rumor, it's worth noting, that came from the exact same site whose post everyone is analyzing. And I have to call bull on the reasoning that it would be two hours, because of musical numbers. Tangled probably has about the same amount of songs as The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast and those were 80 minutes long.

You're right about Cars and The Incredibles being the longest running computer animated movies. What makes them even closer to the 2 hour mark then most is the fact that their credits include animation (be it flash, hand-drawn or computer). Add in the accompanying short's runtime and you do hit the 2 hour mark.
I doubt Rapunzel will be that long. The 90 minute time frame is to keep children from getting restless, maximize the amount of showings per day (especially when cinemas only have one 3D equipped theater) and most importantly, it's cheaper. Animation, especially in California, has become increasingly expensive (e.g. Shrek cost $60 million to make while Shrek Forever After cost $165 million at about the same runtime). You'd be hard pressed to find an animated film from any of the major American studios that costs under $100 million and those extra minutes REALLY add up. With Disney being so unsure of their animation division and on such a tight schedule, I doubt they'd make this film longer than absolutely necessary.estefan wrote:Interesting that a lot of animated films aren't that long.
