Heard back from Disney UK. Not good news. The UK gets shafted.

Dear ....

Thank you for contacting Walt Disney Studios.

In preparation for its Blu-ray release, The Little Mermaid went through an
intensive re-mastering process. We do make every effort to ensure that our
re-mastering process accurately reflects the original release to minimise
consumer disappointment. However, unfortunately, a minor oversight led to a
switch of two small cuts during the "Part of Your World" scene on this
occasion.

We do make every effort to ensure that our re-mastering process accurately
reflects the original release to minimise consumer disappointment.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a replacement disc in the UK and
apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for your vigilance in recognising this and we apologise for the
mix up.

Kind regards,

Disney Consumer Relations

Wow, that is really, really disappointing. Can you respond maybe saying that the US have been issued alternate discs, why not the UK ?

Yes I agree. Really disappointing.
Here is the email I sent them.

As you are probably aware there is an editing mistake during the 'Part of your World' sequence on the Blu-ray Disc.

I am wondering if a corrected replacement disc program is available in the UK as it is in the US.

I am a long term Disney fan and would love very much to have the corrected version. If there is a replacement disc program how I do I go about getting my disc replaced? If there isn't such a service is there any plan to introduce one?

Thank you very much for any information you may be able to give me.

I think more people need to email them. I emailed help@disney.co.uk. We may not be successful this time around but maybe for future releases?

I don't know why Disney UK can't make a small amount of the corrected discs and just not make a fuss of it. A few discs surely can't cost that much money? The majority of people won't notice/won't care enough to get it replaced anyway. This way they keep their hardcore fans happy at least and no one else knows the difference.

What you are saying is contradictory though.

If only a small number of fans see or want the replacement discs, then it is not worth it for them to do a special new pressing, and handle all the postage and process associated with the replacement program.

The only way you are going to get new discs is if you can convince them that enough people are unhappy about it so that it would be worth the effort for them.

It was a suggestion. Wasn't saying it was the correct one. I also don't run a multi-million dollar company so being honest I don't really know what they could do, I'm just annoyed that the UK doesn't get the chance to get the correct disc. The mistake shouldn't have happened in the first place.

I just redeemed the The Little Mermaid poster on DMR; it looks really cool (I guess I'm a fan of the graphic, contemporary style) and I can't wait to get it, which should be in 2-4 weeks. $13.70 isn't too expensive for a poster.

To be fair, they tell you that so they can't complain if they say in three weeks and three weeks later say otherwise.

However that said, I was able to call a lady at Warner Brothers about a replacement for Tiny Toon Adventures Volume 4, the lady didn't answer so I left a message. 20 minutes later she called back and I called her at 7 pm Central time and she called me back at 7:20 and just took my address and didn't even ask for a receipt or anything on the disc itself. She also said she'd get it in the mail in a couple of days. The whole phone took under two minutes if not less. That had to be the fastest disc replacement program that I've ever done.

I'm hoping 8-10 weeks is just a very generous estimate.

In reference to earlier posts about Ariel having a blue tail...
I don't have a blu-ray drive on my PC so I can't make a picture comparison. Skip to 2.28.

Apologies if you have seen it before but this demonstrates the tail colour change. I don't usually even notice a colour change but this is the first time a colour change has annoyed me, intentional or not.

She just looks wrong.
Bottom line is I'm still glad to have this on blu-ray despite my complaining. I don't imagine we will see it in a physical copy ever again.

I finally sent my discs off earlier this week. I didn't even pop them into the player, as I decided to wait for the corrected ones before enjoying. Even though I've seen it twice in the theaters (in 1989 and again in 1997), had the thing memorized when it hit VHS back in 1990, and still have two different DVD editions, I haven't really sat down in ages to enjoy it properly.

Can't wait.

Thank you very much for backing up what I said lol.
I know I wasn't going crazy, I know what I saw on the Blu-ray cisc. I just hope when the replacement disc comes in that it's not blue like that again. :x

I once read the name for the new color Disney invented for Ariel's tail was a blue-green color they named "Ariel" of course. It looks blue-green to me. Even if it is too blue, it may have supposed to been that way and for the first time we're seeing it right. She's in the dark and things sometimes look bluer in the dark. But to me it doesn't look like a big color change.

The fixed iTunes version has a green tail.. So I'm assuming it'll be corrected in the replacement discs.. i gotta call them..

You mean she has a green tail in that specific scene? It wasn't that she had a blue tail in every scene it was just that one scene.

Question about Little Mermaid Special feature

Post by Marce82 »

Hey everyone,

I read there is a special feature on the new Little Mermaid blu-ray called "Howard's Lecture". Is it the same lecture that is under the same name among the special features of the Waking Sleeping Beauty dvd?

Thanks for your help, guys!

Her tail was the color of King Tritons blue tail the whole scene she was in the ship with Flounder in the beginning. It doesn't change back to her normal green tail until she swims up to see Scuttle.

In the Platinum Edition and even the release before that, it was always green. So it was another error in the print. I pray it is corrected.

Yea, but that doesn't change anything I thought about how it looks bluish green to me and that maybe this restoration is showing it right for the first time. I admit that you could be right, I'm just saying I could be right too.

Taei, I'm still asking my question to you, if it still looks that that same blue green color in the picture MeerkatKombat showed in that one scene.
