Dumbo will release in Feb. then a Blu Ray version of Fantasia will come out in March. Shortly after a DVD release (think Snow White type release). I hope I am correct on my conclusion!
I hope not. The releasing the Blu-version earlier gimmick may have happened with Snow White but I hope they don't push their luck with it.
We don't even know if there will be a DVD release. Go back and watch the trailer again, then compare it to the BatB & Snow White trailers, and tell me what's missing :p.

In other news, they have re-animated the Disney vault for this trailer.

I was thinking the exact same thing. The trailer makes no mention whatsoever of a DVD release.

Yeah, the re-animated vault is also on the commercial for 101 Dalmatians, Jungle Book, and Sleeping Beauty going into the vault.

Dumbo (Blu-ray) - February (as stated on the ad inside the Snow White Blu-ray)
Toy Story & Toy Story 2 (Blu-ray) - March 23
The Princess and the Frog (Blu-ray) - March
Old Dogs (Blu-ray) - March
Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 (Blu-ray) - May
Beauty and the Beast (Blu-ray) - October
Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue (Blu-ray) - October
Finding Nemo (Blu-ray) - November
A Christmas Carol (Blu-ray) - November
The Great Mouse Detective (DVD, maybe Blu-ray) - maybe in summer
The Black Cauldron (DVD, maybe Blu-ray) - maybe in summer
Ponyo (Blu-ray) - March 2

What a month! This schedule is probably accurate as having Ponyo, Dumbo, The Princess and the Frog, Toy Story & Toys Story 2, Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 all come out in one month would be bad marketing on Disney's part (and killer on our wallets).

I know nothing is set in stone yet...but this is how I feel. I can honestly say that Disney should delay the Blu-Ray versions of Toy Story 1 and 2, and release them same day (all as individuals, and as a package) once Toy Story 3 is released on Blu-Ray/DVD. Why you ask? Well not that long ago everyone had to opportunity to buy Toy Story 1 and 2 on DVD. As a movie collector (sorry if being a little selfish) I already have those on DVD, but as a Disney collector, I don't have Fantasia on DVD. I also think Dumbo should be maybe moved back a little too. Just because I think you can still buy it on DVD. I know they are pushing Blu-Ray ( I love that they are). What does everyone else think...Once again, I know I should just wait till next Thursday for the C.E.S. Show in Vegas to hopefully Disney's Home movie releases!

I'm excited for this release, granted I'm alil worried bout my wallet :( but I plan on purchasing Dumbo-Fantasia/2000 since I'd like a proper upgrade. Can't wait to see the cover art for the dvd-Blu just hope they keep the art the same for Blu

Is Fantasia World a re-release of the Anthology set?? if so then should I go for that package or just buy Fantasia/2000 on dvd?

I think this is the first time Disney has been so vague and indecisive about the release of its premium line. I don't recall being such a vagueness for releases of the Platinum line. They always indicated which films would be a Spring and a Fall release.

Btw, jpanimation I really love your signature

I agree with you MICKEYMOUSE. I think Toy Story should be pushed back since it actually wasn't that long ago that people bought the DVD's. I really think they should bring one of the Diamond Editions up and release it in the spring. And I really am surprised that there's no indications on how the Diamond line is going to play out this year. First I thought BatB was being released first, now it looks like Fantasias will be released first...it's just weird. But I wouldn't mind either one.

Yeah even though I think everyone is just still a little confused on what Disney is going to do with their releases (wait and see). I think 2010 is looking REALLY good for Disney movie collectors this year!!

In a way it is rather exciting in a way, I mean we know that these movies are coming this year, but for all we know one of them could come out months from now or in two weeks lol.

I also think the Toy Story's could hold out a bit longer, i mean Pixar is going blu-crazy. i mean, after these get released their entire catalog except The Incredibles and Finding Nemo will have been released on blu. What do they plan to do with that. Certainly they don't have the same 8 year(ish) relese cycle plan that the DAC's have. I just got Ratatouille on blu the other day but I think I might hold out on Cars just because Pixar might pull out a new edition in a year or two considering it's single disc and a lot of their newer releases are two. Anyhow, I think they should've held out on the Toy Story's until Fall 2011. I feel like there would be a larger demand for those two films after Toy Story 3 would be released, and above that for that holiday season.

I think Disney as a whole is going Blu-crazy. Many DAC's have mediocre DVD releases that need an upgrade in that department before Disney even thinks about Blu-versions. This may end up hurting the Disney Treasure line we all hold so dearly. If Disney keeps throwing DVD out the window like this we can kiss the Disney Treasures goodbye. (and don't even think about them going Blu. If you think that's happening anytime soon/at all you're dreaming. Besides, those of you wanting DVD production to end are at the same time basically wanting to not receive a Disney Rarities 2 set and/or Ludwig von Drake set and/or more Mickey Mouse Serials sets, etc. You know the chances of those being released on DVD let alone Blu are slim so you can't have your cake and eat it too.) Giving DAC's with mediocre DVD releases better ones and continuing/finishing the Disney Treasure series should be their number one priority.

This might not hurt the Treasures line so much. DVDs are cheap to produce, and when blu-ray becomes cheaper to make, they <might> continue the line in that format(even some rereleases).

Chances are by then, even Iceflash will have upgraded.

They have a chance to make a buck off their catalogue and they'll do it. Leonard Maltin himself has an investment in the line, so that even lessens the cost to the studio.

Run for your lives? I'd rather sit ringside with a bowl of popcorn and Milk Buds and enjoy the fight! Look, even the cast of Beauty and the Beast is joining me!

I hope they dont frankly. People need to get the times. Blu rays and Blu ray player prices have plummeted very fast even just over the holidays, it'll only get cheaper from here. You people have no excuse to hang onto your dated tech, none. Especially since some are starting to include dvds.

It also has a lot to do with the nature of the material being release. Disney knows that this title has a much narrower audience - It's basically for those who LOVE animation, especially that of the Disney variety. There is no way that Joe Public is picking this "boring" babysitter up on a whim for the kiddies (and Music purists wouldn't be caught dead with it).

Now think about what Disney seems to be doing with the tailer - It's the classiest thing they've put out in ages but it makes a strong statement the the films are a pinnacle of achievement - a reference for hand drawn animation. The inclusion of Fantasia World is also something that has no bearing on Joe - Only we really know those shorts exist in the first place

Disney's basically assuming that they are dealing with a premium and sophisticated audience for what is arguably a premium and sophisticated film - one that deserves the leap in quality of the Blu-ray disc. 99% of people who buy one are going to get the other, so why not bundle them together?

Sure DVD is more than capable, but the major likelihood is outside of the education market it's just not going to sell as well as the BD, so why not realise it BD only? After 10 years of no DVDs on the market, people are going to bang their chests and all steamed up, but in the end Disney knows it'll force peoples hands, especially for Fantasia... Which I'll bet you a lot of money will be back in the vault by 2011.

Well, I don't think Disney should be forcing anyone to do anything. The problem here is there really is no excuse to even have a DVD release. There already was excellent DVD releases for these movies, so most people buying the new ones will do it because they want an upgrade, something Blu-ray can give. The only people interested in a new DVD are the little who missed out and don't have Blu-ray and I'm not sure thats enough market to warrant a DVD release of its own. They should probably release a DVD anyways, just to make those few happy, and hold off dropping DVD just a little longer (at least until that market is small enough to ignore).

Another thing to consider is the Blu-ray releases are usually cheaper then the DVD releases, with all the discounts, and comes with the DVD. And with Blu-ray players dropping under $100, the Blu-ray price excuse is starting to wear. Disney even makes the Blu-rays in DVD cases, just for those holdouts, and the only thing they lose are the standard def extras (that is, if they don't plan on upgrading). With the earlier release dates, cheaper prices and them including a DVD, I'm not sure why one would hold out for a DVD unless they REALLY love DVD extras and don't EVER plan on upgrading to Blu.

I'm not comparing DVD to Blu as a format/tech, but the merits of Disney's recent marketing strategy. The way Disney makes their Blu releases kind of makes the DVD releases redundant. I think we should wait for release details before getting all bent out of shape over a possible Blu-only release.
