I haven't been posting in this thread lately because people never want to talk much about TV shows here for some reason and I didn't want to weigh down the thread for everyone else.
I just wanted to say that this past episode gave me new faith in Kurt/Colfer's singing ability. He just sounded horrible on "Defying Gravity" and I really didn't think he could sing. But he sounded great here.
Btw, I felt the Madonna episode was a little underwhelming. I only liked the "Like A Prayer" and "What It Feels Like For A Girl" renditions (and the latter lasted about 30 seconds).

Really? I enjoyed every single song except for What It Feels Like For A Girl. I thought it was rather boring and I'm glad it was only 30 or so seconds because if they did anymore I would've zoned out.Disney's Divinity wrote:Btw, I felt the Madonna episode was a little underwhelming. But, anyway, I kind of enjoyed this weeks episode. And I know that the creators are kind of steering away from her, but I really missed Rachel this week. She had zero songs and only 2 lines. It quite saddened me. In the song department, I really enjoyed Fire just because but I really loved Beautiful and Home. I actually got chills listening to Beautiful and I've rewatched it several times and still get them. And what can I say about Home? The Cheno is simply amazing and I hope she'll be back sometime soon (season 2!). I just can't get into the groove of Kurt's story. Not to sound mean, but he was mean to Rachel and I've grown to not like him very much. His song was okay, but it was much better sung by Matthew Morrison and Kristin Chenoweth. For some reason it just isn't working for me. Oh, and I didn't cry at all like I was supposedly supposed to. And the funniest bits were Finn singing to the chair (though I realize that it's not supposed to be funny, but it really is. I laughed the first time I saw it) and "I bet my cat reads my diary." It was also really nice to have the couple of moments with Quinn and Mercedes. Those girls really can act. Yeah, so that's about it. I can't wait for next week with Molly Shannon and Olivia Newton-John and all of the "bad" songs recreated. It's going to be a blast!

Why couldn't this be a Puckleberry song? I don't mind that it's Rachel and Jesse singing it, but, but...PUCKLEBERRY!TheSequelOfDisney wrote:Total Eclipse of the Heart Preview:

Regionals Song Selections (I'll put it in white just in case):
Journey Medley by Journey. Sung by New Directions
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. Sung by Vocal Adrenaline
Magic by Olivia Newton John. Sung by Aural Intensity
You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban. Sung by Aural Intensity
We Are the World by Michael Jackson. Sung by New Directions and Vocal Adrenaline
Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles. Sung by New Directions
Out of all of these I'm most excited for Here Comes the Sun! It's my second favorite song by that band! The others should be equally enjoyable (except for We Are the World, because I don't think I've actually heard of that song. Maybe I have, but I'm not exactly sure). I can't wait for Regionals!

It's an incredibly mawkish song, created as a charity single in the 80s and revived in the wake of the Haiti earthquake. Honestly, you're probably better off not having heard it.TheSequelOfDisney wrote:(except for We Are the World, because I don't think I've actually heard of that song. Probably as an EP rather than an album. Like the Madonna EP.pick wrote:I've been thinking... do you guys think they'll release an album featuring JUST the songs from Regionals?

It's frickin' hilarious! The song actually sounds better than the original singer! (Complete offense to her)

So I just finished watching the first 13 episodes and I'm really liking the show...
What do you mean that's completely out of character for me to say after all the bashing I did?! OK I'll back up a bit.
Originally I watched the pilot after people here sounded excited, and thought it was stupid. I still think that actually. The pilot had no time to develop any characters which just made them look more like obvious, unfunny tokens. Along with members of the adult cast who were just annoying "buffoons" as Variety would call them.
But I know you can't always judge a show by its pilot (even though that's the point of them), so I checked out episode 4 "Preggers". I thought it was better, but not fantastic enough to invest time into the show, at least not with school going on. It also probably didn't help that I'm not a fan of "Single Ladies".
But once school ended and I had more free time I decided to give the show a third and final chance because of certain guest stars I was interested in seeing. I watched episodes 2 and 3 before going through 5-13 in order. Luckily for the show that chance was enough to get me into it. It also seemed wired how I was the only one not to like it when hearing about it from UD, my cousin, my friends and their friends, the members of my school's Pride Club, basically anyone I came into contact with, lol.
I was glad to see the show progress and drop more of the comedic moments as some were not that funny and they distracted from the weight of the dramatic moments. I also still took issue with certain musical numbers trying to help advance the plot while still looking like music videos, but I got less annoyed with that as I watched more episodes (probably just became more used to it).
The show's well written in the sense that it knows how to make certain individuals easy to hate (Will's wife, Sue) and uncreative plot points (Quin's pregnancy, Kurt coming out) seem logically handled given the character's predicaments and personalities. Certain jokes like trying to make Vin as dumb as possible (why wouldn't he know where his heart is? Or what Cliche means?) didn't work for me though.
The songs were all good if not great. Even Kurt's rendition of "Defying Gravity" wasn't cringe worthy, but Rachel's was obviously better. Maybe a version sung by a male in a naturally sounding male voice would sound good too?
So that's my general view, on to specific random thoughts:
- I think I like Emma best when it comes to characters (her rendition of "I Could Have Danced All Night" in that extremely pretty wedding dress was really wonderful). I don't know if it's her hair, her clothes or her dainty way of doing things (Giselle from Enchanted and her would be great friends IMO) I just find her really appealing. Even in the pilot.
- Sue's visit to her sister was touching at first, but considering how she still talks crap on her TV segment that her sister even watches, I didn't find it too redeeming in the end.
I'll post more thoughts later as I have too much to say now in one post but feel free to ask questions. I'm going to watch episodes 14-18 really soon.

Last nights episode had me in tears. Kurt and Burt were so touching. I was a little nitpicky with the final Kurt number, Chris' vocals were the best they've ever been on the show, but where the hell did he get a lighted sign of his name? Ah well I guess I can look past that if I can look past the whole "Jesse is on spring break" spew. If he's on break why isn't the rest of the school? Whatever.
The Rachel and Finn stuff seemed really forced to me and was the worst thing about last night's episode. Well the true worst was Finn singing "Jesse's Girl". I thought it was really terrible. Finn needs to stepdown as the male lead and let Puck take his place ("The Lady is a Tramp" was my favourite song of the night), I just really can't stand his voice when the others aren't involved.
Didn't miss the adult cast's storylines at all. They should back burner them more often.
The Mercedez/Puck coupling was awesome. Not as fantastic as Puckleberry, but great nonetheless.
Loved that Santana finally got a chance to be a lead. She can actually sing! Can`t wait till her and Brittany are main cast next season.
And speaking of Brittany she was a real hoot last night. Girl has such great timing. Loved the lines during the make out scene and her getting into "The Climb" when it was so bad.
Still waiting for Matt and Mike to say or do anything... I hope with Brittana joining the main cast next season they'll get bumped up to more of a supporting role.
So excited for Neil Patrick Harris next week!

Finished episodes 14-18 now. I also feel bad for calling Finn, Vin, after a simple search online would have confirmed that. Sounded like Vin too me

Agreed, it was fantastic.Widdi wrote:("The Lady is a Tramp" was my favourite song of the night)
Also agree with this. Will's love life, for example, just isn't as interesting at this point IMO.Widdi wrote:Didn't miss the adult cast's storylines at all. They should back burner them more often.

I actually love the adults' storylines (Emma calling Will out for the slut he is = the best moment since the show came back on).
Mercedes and Puck? Worst couple ever. They didn't even sound good singing together (though I agree that Puck should sing more).
The only thing I worry about is Kurt's storylines. They don't bother me personally (state the obvious), but they really need to give him more to do than "be gay." I would rather he got a boyfriend than keep having convo.s with his father (I think they just want a reason to bring that actor back). I don't know, those kinds of moments are way overdramatic and ruin the flow of the show. And I do worry that 'the gay' will end up killing Glee after American Idol dies next season--it has a bad habit of doing that.
Can't wait for NPH next week.

Word on the street is Kurt is getting a football player (and a non-glee club member as a boyfriend next season.

Yeah, I'd read about that before (yes, I spoil myself with everything). Too bad it isn't happening this season.
It'll be like 3 months before season 2 starts.
And I'm with you Flanger-Hanger. I really like Kurt, but I enjoy seeing gay characters that don't burn the closet down on their way out.
