Time for some much-needed updates.
ComingSoon.net reports that the film will be presented in 3-D. I'm not really surprised given the successes of Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.
Bill Nighy has replaced Eddie Izzard as Reepicheep. I have mixed feelings about this. I thought Izzard was brilliant in the role, and am afraid the difference between both men's voices will be distracting. On the other hand, I love Bill Nighy, and whether or not he tries continuity with Izzard's performance, I know he'll do a great job in his own right.
It seems like Walden Media (and/or Fox?) is taking the same approach Disney did with the first film and marketing it to different churchs and focus groups in advance to build hype. I think it's a brilliant move that'll help build word-of-mouth the way it did for LWW. The lack of advance promotion (and Christian outreach) harmed PC's box office a bit, I think (outside of the crammed release date, that is). As I expected, from an adaptation point of view, this is going to fall more in line with LWW than PC since the book is a lot easier to adapt than the second one was. In terms of gross, I'm expecting it to fall somewhere in between the first two films ($200 million domestic?).

Great news, Disneykid! So, 3-D, huh. Hmmm.... I hope it's like Up's 3-D, not just wanting to get into your face. The only in-your-face moment I can think of in Up is when Kevin approaches Carl "threateningly" (after playing with Russell).Disneykid wrote:Time for some much-needed updates.

I agree with the word-of-mouth thing. I didn't know much about it at the time of Wardrobe's release, but it seemed to work. It was just Caspian's marketing that probably threw it off.
Now about Eddie Izzard's replacement: I'll have to see how Nighy handles it. Wonder why Eddie quit?

Im a huge 3d advocate, but if its not being shot in 3d I want no part of this. Doing 3d conversion after a movie as already been shot is the wrong way to go about this.
Its one thing to convert a 3d animated movie where you can essentially reshoot the movie with 2 virtual cameras, but they shouldnt be doing this to movies like Alice. the depth wont be consistent.
I'll be seeing this in 2D. Unless its revealed they shot it in 3d from the get go.

Who wants to bet that the Eclipse and Breaking dawn of Twilghlight could be in 3D by the time they hit theaters at this rateKyle wrote:Im a huge 3d advocate, but if its not being shot in 3d I want no part of this. Since Voyage is tied for 1st for my favorite book, I'd go to 3D but I'm not sure what parts would be 3D unless they're talking about how they get sent to the Dawn Treader.
I just hope they do a LOT of promotion since this has to compete with stupid harry potter (Gag me!)

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

The first piece of marketing has been released - a gigantic banner at the Cannes Film Festival:
http://www.narniaweb.com/2010/05/huge-d ... nd-cannes/
It reminds me a lot of the first film's poster, which I'm sure is not a coincidence. Fox seems determined to follow LWW's marketing step by step to avoid what happened with PC. We're probably not too far off from a teaser trailer. The only family film from Fox this summer is Marmaduke, so it'll probably get attached to that, though it's very possible it'll be with something else. I'd love for it to be attached to Robin Hood or Prince of Persia, but I'm sure Disney wouldn't be too thrilled with the latter.

My thoughts exactly..ajmrowland wrote:So what I gather from the banner image is that Ben Barnes isnt returning?
Does anyone else agree with me that Aslan looks nothing like the previous incarnations..
True, just a poster image but still...
(fingers crossed Liam Neeson is still game, he rocks!)
Overall, I wonder how this movie might change visually, new director..new vision...
Must say that altough I liked the ''sequel'' it felt less inspired than the first movie, if not somewhat of a re-run.
I'm no to judge, I haven't even read the books

When it comes to brains, I got the lion-share,
but when it comes to bruth strength, I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the gene pool

Ben Barnes is returning, actually. He's next to Aslan on the left hand side of the banner. For this film, he grew a beard out and styled his hair differently. That makes sense considering all the Telmarines in the second film had facial hair, and he looks more mature and regal this way.
People at various conferences who've seen the trailer say that visually, it matches the first two films perfectly. You can't tell there's been a change in directors, and I haven't heard anyone mentioned Aslan looking different in that footage. The same visual effects houses from the first two are returning here. I do think Reepicheep has changed a bit, but that's probably to show the passing of time. Aslan, however, does need to remain the same in each film. I wouldn't use the artwork to determine Aslan's look. His appearance was different on the posters for the first two, too.

Well, you can't really fault anyone for that, especially since it's only been two years since Prince Caspian was released. The look he had in that film worked because he was supposed to be young and naive. It'd be kind of laughable to have him look like that now that he's leading a crew of scruffy guys across the the sea as their king. At least with the new look, he can be taken a little more seriously. I'm not sure how I would've felt had they casted someone the same age as the book character for both PC and VotDT since that means he'd only be about 12 in movie two and 15 in movie three. I prefer the upped ages for both him and the Pevensies in the films.

Awesome, epic banner!
Aslan looks exactly like his Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe appearance, which somewhat worries me. Caspian, meh... Don't really care what he looks like, since I've always imagined him with blonde hair (not black or brown). The ship is magnificent, and I can't wait to see how they'll do the fight against the sea monster! Eustace and Reepicheep moments will be cute.

I think Caspian definitely looks better that way. Older, yes, but more mature at the same time (and I remember him being very mature in this book, though it's been a long time). And more attractive, which doesn't hurt.
Has there been any news of who will be playing Eustace yet? I'm pretty sure nothing's been released yet, but I might've missed something.
Anyway, I really hope they do a good job with this one--it was always my favorite of the books. Caspian was an improvement over Wardrobe, but I was a little disappointed that Edward's actor seemed a little less perfect for his role--hopefully he'll be better here. I'm also a little depressed that there won't be anymore films with all 4 of the original children as leads. I didn't mind with the books, because all the children seemed fairly interchangeable (the bad thing was that I actually started liking the "spoiled" children because they were the only ones who seemed to have any personality at all). The movies have been a lot different in that regard, and it's sad that Peter and Susan won't be around anymore.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
A gorgeous teaser poster has been released:

This definitely means we're getting a teaser trailer on the horizon. Prince of Persia, perhaps? That'd certainly be ironic.
