Wait, what?! I thought Alan Menken was hired to write new songs? When did they change it? :?

Well, they may or may not be doing that. Personally, I think that they're stupid if they do, because people will remember being "tricked" and it may turn them off future Disney films as a result. As I said, ultimately its not in Disney's interest to mis-market the film.

Personally, I think Disney should do multiple trailers - one for Rapunzel and emphasising the "Princessy" nature and one for Flynn emphasising the Adventure, and perhaps one for the villain emphasising the danger etc. I've always found multiple-marketing to be more effective, and I wonder why people don't seem to do this anymore.

I suppose its because everyone wants everything to fall into an easily described hole these days, and a film which is "princessy", adventurous and dangerous etc would just confuse people. Shrugs. People are stupid.

But until we actually see the film, how else can we judge it? We can't just judge it on the words of people who have worked on the film - how do they know it won't be re-edited, re-dubbed or re-scored before release (although re-editing an animated film is harder than a normal film for obvious reasons)?
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Well on jimhillmedia.com, this is said in the newest article:
Which bring us back to “Rapunzel” … Or – as this film is now known – “Tangled.” As I understand it, in an effort to win over young men, to convince them that this Holiday 2011 release is far more male friendly that “The Princess & the Frog,” the posters, trailers and TV ads for this upcoming WDFA production will place a pretty heavy emphasis on Rapunzel’s love interest, the infamous bandit Flynn Rider.
So we'll be seeing a lot of Flynn in all the marketing of the film. But that's just to bring in a bigger audience. Hopefully it works.

And btw, I love the trailer! Thank you Margos! The only thing I didn't like was the slogan, "Rinse, Rescue, Repeat" I think it was...

Anyways I never despised the name change but found on the same article is an explanation from the marketing departmanent of Disney:

http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... -tale.aspx
According to the Mouse’s market research, it would seem that – outside of the United States & Germany – the story of Rapunzel itself has very little name recognition. More to the point, even those among surveyed who actually recognized Rapunzel’s name, these people had little or no knowledge of what her fairy tale was actually about. They knew that this story featured a princess with long hair who was trapped in a tower. But beyond that … zippo.

market research shows people aren't familiar with Rapunzel's story???

But naturally we all know who Flynn Rider is then... Their reasoning makes no sense whatsoever.

Rapunzel

But if people don't know what "Rapunzel" is from the name...they won't know what "Tangled is from th name either! Or "The Hidden Tower" or any other name! It can stay Rapunzel and Disney can still get what they want with trailers and ads like that!

Rapunzel is a pretty well-known fairytale. They just used that as an excuse to justify the title change.

Any other thoughts?
Dang! I wanted to watch it and now it's gone! Disney has taken it away quickly. :(

A word of advice to Disney: find a new market research team.
They knew that this story featured a princess with long hair who was trapped in a tower. But beyond that … zippo
I am shocked - SHOCKED - at people's ignorance! This story is so much more complex than that. How is it even possible that someone doesn't know Rapunzel's shoe-size or blood-type? Yeah... :headshake:

And no offense to anyone here, but if that preview happened to be for a DreamWorks movie, many of you would be rolling your eyes at it.
Flynn really does remind me of Naveen, he's very funny and witty.

And Flynn definitely looks like a humourous character in the Naveen mold, which is always a good thing.
Is this supposed to be a good thing?

Also, for Mother Gothel, I of course disagree. She looks standard Disney Villain. Not super-demon like Ursula or Maleficent, but disdainful and suspicious like Scar, Lady Tremaine or Frollo.

What some shots might have looked like had it been a 2D movie. Sorry, couldn't help myself :)

... I assume a lot? It was very well known actually. There had already been made at least 20 Hollywood adaptations of this film before Disney made theirs. The oldest dating back to I think 1902 or 1903...

"Tale as Old Time" wasn't pulled out of Menken or Ashman's hat. It really IS a tale as old as time. It's the one story told in almost every single culture on earth in some form or another.

Not quickly enough! I saw this coming so I downloaded the clip right away. I've uploaded it and sent you a pm with the link. Let me know if you got it.
Thanks, but havent' gotten it so far. I will let you know when it arrives.

I still don't like the new name of the movie. Just imagine a girl saying 'Daddy, I want a 'Tangled' doll!' That sounds weird to me.

Do you mind sharing the wealth, please?!? :)

So, the video was taken down before I could watch it, but my thoughts on your comments:
jpanimation wrote:I guess they've succeeded in making a Dreamworks movie, pop music and comedic characters. Tangled suits this Dreamworks film quite well as its obvious they don't intend on making a classic fairy tail here but the next Shrek.
So really, it's like Rapunzel Unbraided 2.0...?

robster16, I absolutely LOVE you right now, for posting the screencaps, since the video isn't up anymore!!! :pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink::pink:

I thought that was Cinderella?

But honestly most people don't really know the tales--they know the names, but not the stories. I personally didn't know that Rapunzel got pregnant and had babies, and her prince was stricken blind, etc. until several years ago.
