Disney has uploaded the "Let It Go" scene to YouTube, so we can relive its awesomeness over and over again:

AMAZING

BUT

Alas... that's what i had kept in mind, in my memories, from my first and only view. That's why i lovingly hate that movie : because it could have been a true gem... tell me : how many seconds can we actually see her in her official blue magic snow queen outfit.. ? Like, 5 seconds ? 6 ?
It's all too quick. Grandiose but no intimacy. Gorgeous but mechanical. The most chilling and awesome stuff Disney ever made. But in such a hurry. So frustrating.

And that's the problem with every gorgeous piece and idea and theme of this movie. What a waste.

I went to see Frozen today, and walked out after about 12 minutes. The digital projection in the theatre looked poor even with the 3D glasses off, let alone with them on. I could barely make out anything. I left after "For the First Time in Forever", and got a full refund. I will not be attending any more 3D screenings in any Maltese cinemas after this. The problem persists regardless of which multiplex I visit.

Now I will have to wait another 2 weeks until Frozen gets downgraded to 2D screenings, then I'll try again. :(

I must say... Frozen is beginning to grow on me. The more I think about it, the more I analyze it, the more I begin to see the strengths of the narrative, and how often they are strong enough to somewhat block away some of the bigger issues in the story. It is a lot like Sleeping Beauty and Hunchback whose beauty, music and intriguing characters are almost enough to mask some of the bigger issues in the overall production. BUT, I am willing to say that Frozen at times trumps those movies because of a clearer focus on its goals. Like, Sven and Olaf work better as comedic sidekicks because both are presented creatively and uniquely, and also have a greater role in the story, like Olaf being a childhood creation that represents the innocence of Anna and Elsa before they grew colder (no pun intended) and further apart. "Let it go" is greatly growing on me the more I listen to it, and it gets even better with the imagery behind it. I love that in the song, when Elsa is freed, she starts doing small things with her ice powers, like snow flakes, Olaf and bursts of snow. But as the song progresses it gets bigger, grander and more beautiful. It's a lot like "A whole new world" where the visuals beautifully convey the soaring emotions in the song. In "A whole new world", it is how Aladdin and Jasmine start to grow and the thrill of the new world behind them fascinates them, and in "Let it go", Elsa is finally discovering how far her powers can go, and it brings her a lot of joy because it is a potential that was always there, but because of her fears and anxiety, they were held back. In short, both songs are about the extreme joys freedom can bring.

I am also adoring Anna as a character. It is funny because last night, I was talking to a friend about how people tend to compare Rapunzel to Anna and how similar they are. Yet, if you really think about it, they are really different beasts when it comes to their development. Yeah, they share similarities in that they are hyperactive young things eager to discover the world, but whereas Rapunzel was raised to fear the world around her, Anna grew up without any guide. So for example, if you were to ask the two of them if they want to go bungee jumping, Rapunzel would probably have an anxiety attack in the spot, while Anna would have completed the jump two times. In short, what Rapunzel lacks is what Anna needs and vice versa. Anna needed to learn self control in order to be a proper princess and realize that not everything in life is squeaky clean and straightforward. Rapunzel needed to learn that her world is more beautiful and worth living than what Gothel taught her.

I also enjoy that Frozen does away with many Disney/Fairy Tale tropes. Like, I said that I didn't buy that there was no romantic intentions between Anna and Kristoff, and the final payoff was rushed and forced because they wanted the princess to have a man at the end. Well, thinking further about it, save for that annoying instance with the trolls, the relationship between Anna and Kristoff is realistic enough. Just because they shared a kiss at the end it doesn't mean they ended up getting married, more like their relationship is starting to grow and their emotions are genuine at the moment. Not to mention that Frozen is NOT a romantic story, it is about the sister relationship, so of course the romantic side story is kinda left on the side because that wasn't the focus. Kristoff is there to both help Anna find Elsa, and to teach her that human relationships are more complicated and need trust to develop, something Anna needed to learn since she was so quick to trust people without questioning or doubting them first.

Even with all of this new knowledge about the film that is helping me appreciate it, I still think that Hans as a villain is still too under cooked to work. I get that they were trying to overwrite the Disney Prince stereotype and crushing tropes, but the problem is that Hans comes off as being TOO genuine and TOO nice for the villain aspect to be convincing. So for him to flip the switch and suddenly act like a classic Disney villain at the end comes out of nowhere and does not come off as being genuine. Pixar did this concept much better with characters like Waternoose, Stinky Pete and Lotso because you believed why they would become antagonistic. They were so crushed and so heartbroken that fate led them down a dark path, and you believe them as villains. With Hans? All I got was that he was so desperate for attention and so desperate for the throne that he would marry anyone dumb enough to agree with it (Anna was it). There is just no weight to the transformation. Now, if they wanted to defy expectations, they should had have him fall for Elsa and realizing he has more in common with her than he does with Anna, or something more dramatic. Then again, much like Doug and Rob Walker said, if they didn't do that, then we wouldn't have had the very touching and heartbreaking finale with Anna sacrificing herself to protect Elsa and become frozen. So yeah, this was something that needed more work.

Despite that, I am starting to find that Frozen is indeed a great movie whose flaws are not enough to tarnish the greater achievements it manages to create.

I did think she was off in two parts. The beginning when she first says "Let it go, let it go, can't hold it back anymore" to "slam the door" is a little louder than I expected or would've liked--but I guess it's because she sung those lines with more vulnerability in that special performance she gave at some show earlier this year? That was the first I'd heard of the song, and I grew accustomed to the way she performed the lyrics there. Besides that part, which is a matter of opinion (it works for me, even if I'd have preferred it the other way), it's really just the last high line at the end--"Let the storm rage ON!!!"--that I think is too loud to me. But I guess that also works considering the lyrics?

Besides, it's not a song that can or should be sung softly.

Whenever I see this clip over and over again it's just the perfect combination of genuine human feelings, song, and visual that makes Disney so much better than everyone else and not to mention that this "Disney moment" is a really great one.

A big hand for supervising animator Wanye Unten for his work on Elsa!

I can't hear lyrics clearly in songs since I'm hearing impaired and would love read the lyrics to understand to concept or point behind the song. I heard this one has a much more sinister subtlety to it compared to "Love is an Open Door."
Other people walk through life where you prefer to skip
And other people watch their step where you most likely trip
Sure, your hair's not perfect and there's, what's that, on your clothes
And yeah, you're kind of talkative with freckles on your nose
But you're you, you're you, and that's what makes me smile
You're you, you're you, so stay that way a while

Anna: Oh Hans, I...

You don't have to say a thing, I know the way you feel
Your face is like an open book, so honest, true and real
Other people lie and cheat, when push may come to shove
Your heart doesn't work like that, so you're the girl I love
You're you, you're you, that's how I hope you'll stay
You're you, you're you, but anyway, that's all I've got to say

I don't see how it has any more sinister subtlety.
Maybe not sinister in sense we usually think of. But this song clearly, although a bit subtly, show Hans true intentions and trollish sarcasm behind the song.

Other people walk through life where you prefer to skip
Hans implicating how Anna is so naive and gullible about life around her, thus making her easy target to take advantage of
And other people watch their step where you most likely trip
Telling that Anna is a klutz which Hans implying that she not in control of herself, thus being easy target to take advantage of
And yeah, you're kind of talkative with freckles on your nose
But you're you, you're you, and that's what makes me smile
The way she is with all those flaws she has, and that what makes Hans smile: an easy prey to toy with/manipulate with.
You're you, you're you, so stay that way a while
Wants her "stay that way" so she would be easy for Hans to use her at any given point he wishes.
You don't have to say a thing, I know the way you feel
Your face is like an open book, so honest, true and real
Hans basically saying how easy she is to control by knowing the type of emotions and mind she has thus giving Hans advantage to himself over her.
Other people lie and cheat, when push may come to shove
Hans talking about himself.
Your heart doesn't work like that, so you're the girl I love
Hans love her because how easy her heart and emotions are for him to toy with.
You're you, you're you, but anyway, that's all I've got to say
So basically doesn't really have anything else much to say really ABOUT her other than qualities that he himself specifically love. Loves to used for his own gain

The premiere of Frozen here in Finland is December 20th. Can't wait to see it!
I'm checking this thread daily because it's interesting to read your reviews about Frozen. That's why I would appreciate that if you guys would still warn us about the spoilers.
I loved Tangled so Frozen has to be quite an event to beat it.

If you see Frozen this weekend at AMC Theaters, you'll get an Olaf pin and they are in really limited quantities. I went to the theater and ordered my tickets for Sunday to make sure I could get the pin today and not risk them running out. Here's a web link to the e-mail I got

@Divinity. I did catch the slight shrieking at the end, but I'm wondering if that was a bit of vocal tampering? When that part occurs, the camera pulls back quite a bit, so it might be to add that mountain-top echo to her voice.
