What I meant was the scene where she was at a movie house and wanted to make a deal with the people there for free iPads and had them sign a contract like with Ariel.

Presume there was new Jodi audio then ? Would love to hear that, feel like we haven't got anything new in a while.

Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
There's a new interview with Clements & Musker out. According to them, even back then Disney was worried that Mermaid, being a musical fairy tale with a female protagonist, wouldn't be very successful and it would appeal only to girls. However, they didn't resort to such marketing tactics as they are doing today with Tangled and Frozen to mask those elements.

Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
Well, what do you expect? The Little Mermaid was a really big gamble back then. It was going to be the one movie that would make or break Disney after loads of hits and misses at the company since after the release of The Jungle Book.Sotiris wrote:According to them, even back then Disney was worried that Mermaid, being a musical fairy tale with a female protagonist, wouldn't be very successful and it would appeal only to girls.

That is an amazing review, I missed it before. And it's lovely to see someone rediscovering the Classic as well.Old Fish Tale wrote:Blu-Ray Review.

And now, a fun mashup of two different Disney uses of the phrase "Under the Sea".

Wouldn't count on it.. Mondo posters sell out in like 2 seconds. If you get one, you're lucky. I remember I once stayed up awake to get a spirited away one with a higher limited edition and at the end, the website lagged, and when I put it in my cart, it sold out.atlanticaunderthesea wrote:I love these !!! Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
I think the bonus material on this release is okay, it could have been a lot worse.
Among other things we get Jodie Benson with her son and daughter in "New Fantasyland", a video about Disney's history of using live action references for the animators (including interviews with the crew that worked on The Little Mermaid), Howard Ashman's lecture to the staff at Disney animation, a new video about Disney animation (interviews with Ron Clements, John Musker, Ruben Aquino, Mark Henn and some of the new animators that work at Disney now), as well as bonus material from the Platinum DVD (The Little Matchgirl short, the making of The Little Mermaid, commentary track with the directors and Alan Menken, etc).
And the picture on the Blu-ray release looks stunning - The Little Mermaid have never looked better.

Hey, Edward? I'm probably the first to ask you, but is a certain error that's gotten a majority of us here worried present on your copy of the Blu-ray?

Mind taking the corporate snobbery to anywhere other than the TLM thread? Thanks.
The Mondo poster is very nice, although some of the faces could be better. Overall, I like the Eric one best, just because the ship + waves are nice, but I orefer the blue-ish tint over the green; it's too bad they couldn't put Eric and Triton both on there. Flotsam/Jetsam and the tentacles/suckers are my favorite parts. I'll definitely be getting it (if possible

Especially Ariel's. I'm not a fan of the Mondo posters. They look nothing more than mediocre fan art to me.Disney's Divinity wrote:The Mondo poster is very nice, although some of the faces could be better.

Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
I got an early copy of the blu-ray 3D combo pack in the US as a gift yesterday from a friend...
Watched the 3D version this morning, and I have to say I think they did about as much as they could do without completely repainting the backgrounds (which I applaud them for not doing). There are some shots that look absolutely lovely in 3D, but overall it's not nearly as impressive as Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King from a technical standpoint for obvious reasons. The moments that stood out in my mind were the shot of Ariel reaching up near the end of "Part of Your World" (right before the infamous editing error, that yes, is also on the U.S. editions), Pretty much all of Under the Sea, the final bit with the fireflies in Kiss the Girl looks magical, A few shots of Ursula's tentacles creepily coming out at you, and the opening credits are different from the 2D version in that the merfolk are swimming in front of and behind them (in the 2D version, all the text is in front of the animation).
As for the errors/changes.. I still prefer the original placement of "Walt Disney Pictures Presents" over them moving it up a little, but I was able to shrug it off, as well as the Scuttle scene transition. Sadly, the "Part of Your World" error was, as I feared, very noticeable and jarring on a big screen HD tv. I didn't pay for this set, but I will still be calling Disney on Tuesday requesting they create a replacement disc because it does ruin the ending of that scene for me and if at all possible I'd like to obtain an HD version with the scene corrected.
