Oddly enough, I only REALLY love about half of Butterfly, but my love for that half is fierce enough to make it my #2 favorite Mariah album behind Daydream. (The half I love includes the title track, Whenever You Call, The Roof, My All, Fourth Of July, and Honey, although I also enjoy Breakdown and Close My Eyes, but I don't have the major love for those that I have for the other six.) And I don't dislike the other songs I didn't mention either, but I only listen to them on occasion.

Daydream, however, I love every single track on it. It's one of those perfect albums I can listen to all the way through and not skip the first song. :D
I agree with every single thing you wrote! Although, as far as her older albums are concerned, I just have her #1's CD, even though I am familiar with some of them (besides the singles), since my best friend loved Mariah growing up.

1. Daydream
"Daydream" will forever be one of my all-time favorite albums. Like my chicken is infected wrote, every single song is so great on that album- it really is an album you can just enjoy all the way through. And I agree with you about "Underneath the Stars", schoollover- what a great song.

I'll join in the Mariah album ranking:

1. Daydream
2. Merry Christmas
3. Music Box
4. Mariah Carey
5. E=MC^2
6. Butterfly
7. MTV Unplugged
8. The Emancipation of Mimi
9. Emotions
10. Rainbow

I don't have Glitter or Charmbracelet so I can't rank those (and I'm leaving out compilations).

I can't really rank them all, but I would say that "Butterfly" is her best, in my opinion of course.

Mariah's new single "Obsessed" should be hitting airwaves soon. It's off her upcoming album "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" which will be coming out later this year. Here is a link to an MTV News article on the subject.

The song is about Eminem. There are many direct references to him and things that he did. The-Dream confirmed Obsessed as Mariah's "answer record."

I love this song, it's very current and while I don't care for auto-tune, I don't mind it as long as she doesn't use it a lot of the album (1 or 2 songs max).

What's most shocking are the lyrics - I've never heard Mariah be so blatant and bold in a song, ever.

I didn't even get through the whole song. I should give it a chance...I miss her old style. :(

And this Mariah freaking Carey- she doesn't need autotune.

The song is a grower, I was put off at first but loved it after the second listen. Mariah said it is different from what she usually does (autotune, lyrically) and she was right, but it works. I look forward to hearing "The Voice" on album cuts and other singles.

BTW: "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" comes out August 25th, 2009!

It's alright. Like Amy said, I really wish she would start recording really good music again, like her all albums before The Emancipation of Mimi.

I mean, I like E=MC2 and The Emancipation of Mimi, but I find myself listening to her other albums more.

personally, I think "Obsessed" is a great track. Who cares if she used Auto Tune, half, if not more, artists today use it. I think it sounds great, yeah, it's a very modern song, but thats what Mimi wanted. I just hope she doesn't have a rapper on EVERY other song, LoL.

I was watching older Mariah live performances (and some clips of newer ones) on YouTube today. So talented. I mean, I haven't given her newer music much of a chance, but her older stuff- wow. She really is amazing, with her ease of transition between octaves and her vocal control and whatnot. And watching her earlier performances, it reminds me of Christina Aguilera; it's no secret, and so obvious, that Mariah inspired Christina.

Some videos from Mariah's Daydream tour in Japan were the highlight of the YouTube extravaganza- so amazing. I'd post links, but I'm going to bed, but you can just search for "Mariah Carey Daydream Tour"! :)

Ditto!

I'm not really feeling the new single but still looking forward to the CD. She looks freakin' incredible on that cover art.

According to Nick Cannon "Obsessed" isn't about Eminem:

...and in case you haven't seen the "star" of Mariah's new video, here's some pics:

Undoubtedly her music is amazing, but I think it is just the way she carries herself. She used to be so classic and nice and lately she just is so revealing with her outfits, etc. She seemed like she was a bit more reserved when she was younger and then her talent was the main focus, now it is her looks.
