I feel really sorry that you had to go through a terrible experience!
Yes, your DVD is in fact a bootleg and I hope the seller will be reasonable in refunding your money...
If, in the future, an EBAY seller sells a Disney DVD that you want, you should always ask for the picture and come to the forum with questions.
i thought i would help out by posting pictures of my Sleeping Beauty DVD so that maybe you could compare the difference.
the things people posted above are really great tips on avoiding bootleg copies, i sometime go for the USED copies because if the seller was in it for the money, they wouldn't sell it for such a low price. a new version of Lady and the Tramp Limited Issue DVD was on eBay from $30 - $40, i paid $15 for my used copy and it was a real region 1 copy.
anyways, here are the pictures.
(if the picture doesn't appear, right click and hit Show Picture)

America actually has more... and less. They have more games, an all new Music Video and, most importantly, a Commentary and Trailers!
However, they also miss out on a few things. In their storyboard to film comparisons they get an introduction, but only one comparison (the UK set has 3 comparisons). They also miss out on the DTS soundtrack, and the Audio Descriptive soundtrack.

Oh, okay. I'm glad to hear that the UK one has less games (I don't ever touch games on DVDs, but their existence is disturbing).

And we have the Art Attack: Make your own castle featurette!
It happens to me before... Lion king 2 (limited edition) and "The Nightmare before Christmas" was both bootlegs. The covers are not so good quality print (no insert of course!) and the Dvds itself were dvd-r
Never got refund but sell them back to a collector (with the mention of bootlegs for a lot less!!) and he was happy... Good luck!
BE ALL CAREFULL WITH THIS!!
suggestion: maybe a topic on the subject will be intersting like : post the names of those who are selling bootlegs and ways to know a difference between real and fake...
Alchimist has a good idea. Posting ebay user names of bootleg sellers and in general, bad sellers. Maybe a whole thread on tips on buying DVDs on ebay and make it a sticky topic so people can refer to it for help. Perhaps post pictures of the REAL DVD and of well made bootlegs to show the difference.
I know the first week Gargoyles came out on DVD they had several bootlegs and ebay was taking them down like crazy. I do have bootleg VHS of Gargoyles, but that's a whole different ballgame with me. I have bootlegs of Gargoyles, X-Men, and X-Men Evolution. Both X-Men series on DVD. But when they brought out the official ones, I bought them. Better quality, nice covers, extra features, etc. I just prefer the quality over the price. When seaon 2 of Gargoyles is released to DVD (hopefully!) I'll buy that too and then I can retire the tapes
thank you everyone for your input, i returned the dvd back to the seller and they gave me a full refund, there are still good people that sell on ebay, and i am not going to leave negative feedback because this seller did right by me in the end thanks again.

well, i'm glad things worked out by you getting a full refund.
i HOPE that you'll be able to find a true, Region 1 Sleeping Beauty DVD!
Hi,
I'm new and had a question about bootlegs/impots, and instead of starting a new thread I'll ask here. I just ordered a Pinocchio gold edition dvd and I asked the seller some questions he told me it had the rounded corners and was in a white case with an insert and was sealed, but it did not have a stamp on it. Now I have gotten some dvds at stores that did not have a stamp. So, what do you guys think did I get riped off or am I good?

p.s. sorry for the long post
Welcome to the forum!
it's not a long post!
in answer to your question, there are some DVDs that do not have the BVHE stamp on it and they aren't considered bootlegs.
however, just to be sure, is there a picture you could provide?
You can make bootleg DVD and set only one region on them. A program I use allows me to set any region or all regions. I copy my old VHS tapes to DVD and pick set it on region 1
