i prefer the mandarin over cantonese. but the mandarin dubbing made a mistake, they dubbed another character for john smith's part during the virginia company reprise "or maybe two or three" . it became an old man's voice..

It's not one of my all-time favourites, but I really liked the style.

I also remember being quite taken with Ratcliffe. I liked the Hogarth-y design and the pompous attitude; a memorable character, who even had his own Waylon Smithers in Wiggins. But I feel sorry for whoever the real John Ratcliffe was.

I'll just translate what I said about it last time I saw it.

Good things: Just Beyond The Riverbend and Colors Of The Wind are likable songs.
Minpunten: First and foremost: subtlety. The people behind Poca probably never heard of the word. A few examples:
'They're not like you and me, which means they must be evil'
'They're different from us, which means they can't be trusted'
'Should I choose the smoothest course steady as the beating drum? (Cool, a metaphore!)
Should I marry Kocoum? (Damn, an explanation.)
Is all my dreaming at an end? (Ew.)
Or do you still wait for me, dream-giver, just around the river bend? (Oh, come ón!)'
Pocahontas keeps nagging about a dream about a spinning arrow. She finds John's compass and says 'A spinning arrow...' Grandmother Willow immediately screams 'The arrow from your dream!'
The movie is stúffed with Dûh-moments.
Then there are the voices. Most noticable is Poca herself, in a negative way. Her voice is utterly void of emotion and just annoys me.
Over to animation. Awful. Just awful.
All that remains is the story, which is just plain boring (mostly because of the Dûh-factor).

Overall grade (1 t/m 10): 2. Because of the music.

So no, I wouldn't say I like the movie.

i object. the movie is the most subtle in animation. how can u say pocahontas is void of emotion. she may not be over the top like other famous heroines..(ariel) cause she doesnt have to.she's noble. 8) r the other disney songs lyrics subtle?

let's have a look shall we..

up where they walk?
up where they run?
up where they stay all day in the sun? (oh, come on!)
wandering free
wish i could be
part of their world (damn, an explanation)

i want much more than this provincial life (damn, an explanation)

I finally got around to watching it for the first time a couple nights ago and I have to say that I did enjoy it very much. It's not Disney's greatest masterpiece, and I'd rank it low on the list for best Disney films from the company's rennisance. But the animation is top-notch and all of the songs were very enjoyable (I can't get Colours of the Wind out of my head). I found both Pocahontas and (more-so) John Smith to be rather boring, but the supporting cast really made up for. As for the historical inaccuracies, I easily looked past them and enjoyed the film for what it was; a re-telling of Romeo and Juliet (with less death) set in 1600's America.

It's not my #1 Fav. Disney movie, but at the same time I don't hate it or dislike it in any way. One thing that irritates me to no end is hearing everyone complain about how it didn't follow the actual events GET OVER IT!!! This movie was made to entertain kids not educate them. I think this movie does a great job at entertaining kids, whenever I babysit kids with Disney movies they always pick Pocahontas over the Fab 4, when I ask if they want to watch something diff. they say No, those aren't as good. I personally like the Fab 4 but at the same time I hate how popular they can be since it drives other gems out of the spotlight sometimes. Anyways back to my point, a movie doesn't have to be historically accurate to be good.

omg thank you for sharing that experience!!!!!!!! being the numba one 1 fan of pocahontas that totally cheers me up! which reminds me of the similar incidents i encountered now that u mentioned it. a coupla times i went to my friends house and the movie their siblings r playing is usually pocahontas!and my younger cousins couldnt care less about the fab4. they dont even know there is such a thing as a fab4. they know those movies but to them theyre just disney movies.there's nothing to segregate the so-called fab4 from the rest of the disney films.some even rank lower than the non fab4s. i guess only those of gen-y below judge them politically as they were released.so pocahontas is a cult classic maybe someday it will reach the status of TNBC and they will release a pocahontas-3d. hehe i sure hope they will.

btw, if u want accuracy...watch the new world.there's an option.not every movie has to be accurate as long as it delivers the main plotline..all the fairy tales done werent faithful to the writers original intent..and neither are oscar winning autobiographical movies like say..ray or jfk...or walk the line..or whatnot.

anyway i want to rant about russell means. this guy claims to be championing the native american's rights and accuracy in movie portrayal but then why would he agree to act like a buffoon in pocahontas 2..and stereotypical in the pathfinder (which is already released in malaysia). i start to wonder would he really say that about every native american movie he's involved with or he's just plain easy to please?
