Tangled (aka Rapunzel) Discussion - Part III
I don't see an issue with calling the film "Tangled" but beginning with the "Rapunzel" book - does it prove how worthless the name change was? Yes, considering that the toys are still labeled Rapunzel and the film is still a fairy tale. But the title Tangled is supposed to be representative of the Flynn/Rapunzel relationship. Yet, it is still Disney's telling of Rapunzel. I hope they do start off with the book opening.

Somebody on IMDb's Tangled board posted that they just put the Tangled display up at Disney-MGM Studios (yeah, I'm used to calling it that, so sue meblackcauldron85 wrote:The link that DisneyFan09 posted- HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS MUST HAVE TANGLED ARTWORK UP NOW!!!!!! That's true, but Disney *is* a big part of our popular culture, and kids are being brought up on Disney. I know they're cartoon characters and therefore they're exaggerated, but that doesn't mean they necessarily have to be unrealistically thin. I mean, Ariel and Jasmine and Rapunzel and all of those Disney princesses are supposed to be really beautiful (that's why all the Disney men want them). So the conclusion a child watching these films can draw is that, in order to be beautiful, you have to ultra-thin. And coincidentally, that's exactly what all other media tell us.enigmawing wrote:I don't mind the thin characters so much, they're cartoon characters and are supposed to be an exaggeration. It's not the same as photoshopping a real women into stick figures; Disney characters aren't passed off as "real people" like we see from magazines and such.
Look, I'm a man and I'm not going to be hypocritical about this: I like slim girls too. But if they'd be as skinny as Ariel or Rapunzel, I would seriously question their health. That doesn't mean the Disney princesses should look overweight or something like that. That's the polar opposite and equally unhealthy. But there's got to be some kind of middle ground.
Why would they want that? And do they think anorexic girls are attractive? All guys I know are repulsed by the ultra-thin supermodels you see on the catwalk. "You can count all the bones in her chest!"Polizzi wrote:I guess the reason why Disney made girls look thin, to attract boys to act like hound dogs to howl at girls as they fall in love. In other words, they want boys to have a crush on Disney girls.
It's her feet, isn't it?Polizzi wrote:To tell you the truth, the art of Rapunzel from Disney got me, in other words I got a crush on her. I could not take my eyes off her. She may be cute, but she surly could have some common sense. I feel like a hound dog already, howling and whistling at her. AH-OOOO-GA!
Pink hair and oversized, disproportional breasts? Really?Super Aurora wrote:Then they fail cause anime seems to be winning in that department.

Pascal is extremely cute, although he looks serious a lot. I would maybe have liked it more if they gave Rapunzel a bird with a long tail like this artist had.

I'm confused though isn't the movie supposed to be based in Renaissance? But if the designs are in the final movie, wouldn't the movie now be based more in Regency time?

I can't figure out if Gothel in the image is getting younger or older. My belief is that it could be her holding Rapunzel's hair when it gets cut and the picture shows it losing its power.

I'm talking more alone something like this:Goliath wrote:Pink hair and oversized, disproportional breasts? Really?Super Aurora wrote:Then they fail cause anime seems to be winning in that department.

or this

But disproportional body parts can't be a fault as even Disney has give girl disproportional attributes too.
What I'm pointing out is that more often people will get more attracted to a certain anime girl than a Disney one. Go around the internet and you'll see.

Tangled’s Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder to premiere at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in new “play and greet” in October
http://www.insidethemagic.net/2010/07/t ... n-october/
Move over Belle, there’s a new princess in the kingdom. Today Disney announced its upcoming Tangled film stars Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder will replace “Storytime with Belle” at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom with a “play and greet” experience.
Beginning October 15, Magic Kingdom guests will have a chance to not only meet and greet with the two new characters but also interact with them in ways not yet announced. It all will take place in the Fairytale Garden, located between Cinderella Castle and the Mad Tea Party.
The “play and greet” sounds strikingly like a precursor to what is planned for Disney’s ongoing Fantasyland expansion that will include several new houses, each with their own interactive area for children of all ages to spend quality time with their favorite Disney Princesses.
The final chance to catch “Storytime with Belle” will be September 12.
This is the second announced addition today of Tangled movie characters to Disney’s theme parks. Earlier, Disney revealed an upcoming new parade for Disneyland in California called “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade.” It will also feature Rapunzel along with her house atop a Disney Princess float.

It's amazing that it took just one spoiler concept art to turn skeptics into believers.I think the skeptics were really concerned about a faithful adaption. But how sure are we?The ending of the film is not completed.
As for Goliath's discussion,it's true that Disney is close to pop culture, and that most of the Disney princesses are skinny. But that doesn't mean that skinny is the princesses' motives. It's like how Jessica Rabbit says, "I'm not bad.I'm just drawn that way." Most of the recent female characters have been quite good role models.Skinny or not.Jasmine from Aladdin wanted to be treated fairly and not as a trophy wife, but her character design is sexualized.Rapunzel wants to be an adult, but she looks like a child.Do you understand what I'm saying Goliath?

And, you may have noticed, have clammed up.
Please carry on speculating. And I'll see you at the movies.
I believe that the ending of the movie is going to be heartwarming, because according to the pictures on Photobucket that show the concept arts of Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," I saw a picture of Rapunzel, with her hair cut, dropping two tears from her eyes, upon Flynn Rider's eyes. It could mean that Flynn Rider is either blind, dead, or both, which could restore his eyes, life, or both. I would say both, because in Disney's, "Beauty and the Beast," the beast dies, after killed by Gaston, before Belle says, "I love you," the beast returns to his form as human, and returns to life, which is really heartwarming. I just have a feeling that the ending of Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," will be as heartwarming as Disney's, "Beauty and the Beast." I could picture Rapunzel cutting off her own hair, watch Mother Gothel suffer by returning to her true form, become nothing but corpse, and die in front of Rapunzel, leaving nothing but her red devilish clothes. After that, she cries upon Flynn Rider's eyes, bring his eyes back, and his life. I bet Mother Gothel kills Flynn Rider before Rapunzel cuts off her own hair. Just a thought.

Pollizi (and some others as well) you should REALLY edit your replies and make the color of the text white so people who do not want to read spoilers do not have certain story elements spoiled for them by reading your text! I STRONGLY suggest you edit them, or someone with moderating powers to do it for them otherwise! As quickly as possible

How is that? I did not know that it could ruin the ending. I shall remember that next time, I hope, sorry.Polizzi wrote:I believe that the ending of the movie is going to be heartwarming, because according to the pictures on Photobucket that show the concept arts of Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," I saw a picture of Rapunzel, with her hair cut, dropping two tears from her eyes, upon Flynn Rider's eyes. I think you should make that entire text white, not just the part you just did, that already contains a LOT of clues towards the end of the movie. It's a difficult dilemma, because on the one hand people probably know the fairytale, but on the other, we don't know how Disney changed it and some people really just do not want to know. Question is, what are they doing in forums if they don't want to know, but that's an entirely different dillemaPolizzi wrote:How is that? I did not know that it could ruin the ending. Btw, here's a nice little character bio for Mother Gothel from the video that Pollizi posted, contains spoilers (highlight to read):
"Mother Gothel
Manipulative and over-protective, Mother Gothel stole Rapunzel from her parents and locked her in a tower so the world would never know about the power of her magical hair which she uses to remain young. Mother Gothel uses subtle jabs, over-the-top guilt trips, and refrains of "Mother Knows Best" to keep Rapunzel from leaving the tower. But when she begins to separate herself, Mother Gothel slowly descends into madness and will stop at nothing to get her little girl back."
Going to be a VERY interesting "mother" daughter relationship and a VERY layered villain indeed!

Mother Gothel has the potential to be one of the greatest Disney villains ever- in fact, one of the greatest animated villains ever.robster16 wrote:Btw, here's a nice little character bio for Mother Gothel from the video that Pollizi posted, contains spoilers (highlight to read):

Looks ten times prettier then the DS game.
Should of been a fighting game, looking at the health bar. I'd love to see Rapunzel do some of Millia Rage's technique while Flynn does a hadoken
