Don't worry, when The Little Mermaid came out on a Platinum Edition there were plushes of Flounder,Sebastian (and also i think Mex) and when Cinderella came out on a Platinum Edition they had pluses of the mice and the birds so we will see stuff of Flora,Founa and Merryweather (maybe even dolls).candydog wrote:Well this means there will be more Sleeping Beauty merchandise. Sleeping Blu-Ray
Okay, we've recently gotten a new version of what could be the cover, so, everyone have a look at the old one:

Yes, it's very small right now, but I'm posting it in case Disney changes it again, and I love collecting all the possible covers. Cover art is my passion!
Anyway, I actually REALLY LIKE IT! Purple's my favorite color, and though I like bluer shades of purple, it's perfect because it's a mix of Aurora's pink dress and blue dress! But I mostly love it because it's all these images around the center title, and it actually plays out more like a STORY than just one picture trying to fit in every character! I recently heard that in advertising, the trend now that gets people to buy things more is to make an ad that tells a story. The fairies putting the castle to sleep, Maleficent becoming a dragon, Phillip riding off to save his True Love, Aurora about to be awakened. It's all action, and together they all pretty much tell the climax of the movie! I don't mind seeing the same characters over again because of this whole new idea for the covers! And I actually don't mind Aurora in pink, because the fairies could have quickly changed it to pink before she got kissed or something. Hey, at least Phillip's cape is the right one this time (with the red collar).
I don't mind that this is different from past Platinum covers, because it's like the "new" line of Platinums, and as long as all the re-released Platinums have covers in the same style, it's fine. The ONLY thing I would change is have that the left side looks bare and the images don't make a complete circle around the title. I think I see either a castle or thorns there, but they aren't very visible or bright, so they need to put something there or make watever's there more noticable.
And now, let me present a little side by side of the old and the new:Disney Villain wrote:

Re: Sleeping Blu-Ray
It's not a rescue (it's like saying that Belle rescued Beast).Disney Duster wrote:Phillip riding off to save his True Love,
And the fairies had to rescue, him, and his horse, and his cap, damit, they even killed Malificent for him.

I too am a huge fan of cover art. In fact, it might be one of the only reasons that I pick up the Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition, since I already own the 2-disc DVD from 2003. The second picture (the smaller one) is really hard to see because it is so small. However, from what I can see of it, I don't really care for it. In my opinion, it does not look like a Platinum Edition cover. There is too much blank space on the sides, it doesn't look very legit. The first one (the larger image) looks more like a Platinum Edition cover art to me. There is less wasted space, on this one we have the castle and the fight sequence between Prince Philip and Maleficent the dragon. I would really like to see Maleficent in fairy form on the cover, since she was in dragon form on the last release.

I'm mixed on the cover. I love the purple and agree that it offers a nice combo of Aurora's two dresses (plus Maleficent's costume has purple in it, so the color's not irrelevant to the movie). I also like that Aurora and Phillip are more on-model this time (I blew the picture up using the zoom feature on IE). At the same time, though, the things that don't really bother Disney Duster bother me. I don't like seeing characters repeated on a cover unless it's done a lot (as in, a character appears three times or more, like on those Disney Studio Collection T-Shirts that came out recently where the main character is in the foreground, and they appear in several different poses and scenes in the background. Yes, that just earned the award for run-on sentence of the year). When a character appears twice, it comes across as awkward to me, and we get four characters that appear twice (Phillip and the three good fairies; the latter are harder to see, but if you blow the image up, they're at the very bottom underneath Phillip). Not only that, I'd prefer this to match other Platinum covers. It's true that Sleeping Beauty could be the reboot for the Platinums (especially since it's the first to arrive on BD) and that its 2003 SE cover could technically already be considered a Platinum type cover. Still, we've got titles arriving in the collection for the first time after this film, so Snow White (the first Platinum to get re-released in the series) should be the reboot in terms of style, not Sleeping Beauty. I do agree on making the castle more prominent and putting it on the left hand side like on the other mock-up cover. The gap that's there is very annoying. So while I have my misgivings on the cover, I do have to admit it's decent overall and better than some of the current Platinum and SE covers.

I'll have a blu-ray player (PS3) in my house by then but I'll be picking it up on DVD instead of Blu Ray for three reasons:CampbellzSoup wrote:for those of us with both DVD and Blu Ray players?
Will you be picking this up on Blu Ray or Disney DVD?
I feel kind of bad leaving behind my old DVD collection it will seem so out of place
1. The rest of my collection is on DVD and I'm OCD about matching
2. The PS3 is my roommates so if we ever move into different houses I'm stuck with a disc I can't watch.
3. I don't believe Blu Ray will become a standard format and I'm not gonna waste my money buying Blu Ray discs because of that.
I may rent the Blu Ray release just to see what it looks like in HD (for the most part I've never noticed a substantial difference between HD and non HD before and I don't get the massive hype) but other than that the Blu Ray release will be pretty much ignored by me.

I have a 1080p 60 inch television and HDMI cables/PS3 so if you put a DVD in the player compared to Blu Ray the difference is day and night.
I really don't care who wins this stupid format war, I just like to enjoy movies presented the best way they possibly can be.
If you rent Ratatoullie on Blu Ray and had the right equipment, the picture and sound quality is AMAZING. I hope the same can go for Sleeping Beauty.
