Well she's pretty, at leasts shes not stereotypically blonde/blue eyed Alice. Still I wonder why Tim went along with an older Alice? Maybe this one is going to be a tad more mature themed? Anyone think this release might get a PG-13 rating? She's definitely a better choice then the 23 year old we originally thought was going to be Alice.

I think since there might be that dark version of American McGee's Alice, then this will be a nice counterpart for more kid friendly audience.

McGs version has been in development hell for the past 5 years. Doubt it is going anywhere development wise.

I certainly wouldn't mind her as the Queen, nor Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. While they may be predictable choices, they'd still be good ones since I know both actors can pull it off.

At this point, what I'm really wondering is how motion capture will be implemented. Will all of the Wonderland characters be CG, or just the animals? If it's the former, will they resemble the actors like in Beowulf, or will they be uniquely designed like Gollum? Disney's been awfully vague with their approach on this. I wish they would show some concept art and/or motion capture tests at Comic Con, but I have no clue how far they've gotten in pre-production.

Oh, I wouldn't mind it either. Her portrayal of Bealtrix in HP was well done. She can play a raving lunatic well. I could see her yelling the Queen's signature line.

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter would be cool. Didn't think of that one.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! ah, johnny depp is an inspiration.
maybe it's a predictable choice, but i'm SURE nothing else about this film (other than casting tim's wife) will be nearly predictable.
now i'm even more excited about this film.

timothy spall WOULD be good as the white rabbit, or the king, or the caterpillar, or the marge hare, or virtually any other character in alice in wonderland. i'd like to see him play something other than sleezy sidekick to the bad guy, that's for sure.

That source is coming from "The Sun" though, isn't that kind of like the National Enquire? I wouldn't believe it just yet.

really? well, i'm not familiar with "The Sun," and in fact this is the first time i've heard about it. well, i won't be surprised if this were to soon become true, even if it isn't yet.

I really want to hope it's true, but like jeremy, I'm skeptical of anything The Sun puts up (they really are the UK equivalent of the National Enquirer). The article itself has two inaccuracies in it, already. First, production starts November, not next. Second, the film comes out March of 2010, not summer. If other sources point to this casting choice without mentioning The Sun, then I'll believe it. For now, I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Oh, and Timothy Spall as the White Rabbit is absolutely brilliant. I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Well, Burton seems to play favorites with his actors. Depp, Carter, and Spall are in nearly everything he does. But Timothy has already showed he can act...rodent'y, from the Harry Potter movies. :P

And while I expected Johnny Depp to be the Mad Hatter, The Sun can be the equivilant to the National Enquiror at times.

Tim Burton Collective News has some info on one of the shooting locations and what they're looking for in terms of extras:

http://www.timburtoncollective.com/tbcnews.html

What I find interesting is that this seems to indicate the film will start before Alice and her sister go to the park. It's possible it may still start there, but I can't imagine the need for so many extras if that's the case. It also confirms that the timeframe will, indeed, be Victorian England. I never doubted that it'd be otherwise, but it's still nice to get an official word.

Maybe to 'beef' up the beginning of the original story. Probably more backstory on Alice and her lifestyle, her school life, family etc. while living in Victorian England. After all of that, then it might lead into the park scene, and then she heads off to Wonderland. Just my guess anyway, everythings still up in the air since its still early.

Oh wait nevermind...isn't she homeschooled by her sister??? Now where did I put my Alice novel...

In the Disney movie, she's homeschooled by her sister. In the book, her home life is never told (except briefly at the beginning of Looking Glass). She's merely spending time with her sister in the park at the beginning of Wonderland, bored that all the sister's doing is sitting and reading. Some backstory to give the Wonderland events some more resonance sounds like something Tim (and screenwriter Linda Woolverton) would do. I remember him saying a while back that he didn't like how disconnected the events felt in other versions, so perhaps he and Linda are going to try to tie them all together via a new plot thread that begins in England. I just hope they do a better job at that than NBC's TV movie attempt.

Burton was not to be expected...it just sort of happened.

And it's not the Harry Potter cast, they've been in tons of Tim Burton flicks. And no, Danielle Radcliffe has never worked with Burton..why would he be in this movie?

Sort of happened? Johnney Depp in another Burton movie isn't very original.
Timothy Spell was in a Burton movie? how about the girl who played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films?.

Ariel'sprince...READ my post.

I said that Burton directing the film just happened, not the cast.

And it hasn't even been confirmed that Johnny Depp was in it, so don't say things unless you know the facts.
