Harry Potter--What We Love, What We Hate, and Anything Else!
Well, the BBFC has said that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will have a runtime of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 4 seconds long. That means it's the shortest Harry Potter film to date, which is surprising to me.
That said, I'm ecstatic that it'll get into the main storyline pronto without any made-up scenes, and I'm a bit mad at how short it is. I dearly hope that Warner Brothers put David Yates's needs first and that this is his definitive version, and not a scenario where they forced him to cut scenes for a shorter runtime. But then again, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the best Harry Potter film out of the four currently released, and it runs a mere 4 minutes longer than OOTP. So here's to hoping shorter means better.
And more of all else, I hope it's coherent and cut stuff in the right place.

It's odd, knowing it's the longest Harry Potter book, I would've thought the movie would be much longer. I just hope it doesn't meet the fate of Goblet of Fire where everything felt rushed.azul017 wrote:Well, the BBFC has said that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will have a runtime of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 4 seconds long. But there are many things that made OOTP a very long book that weren't really necessary, so I guess it was easier to cut some stuff for this movie than for the others. And POA was the longest book of the first three, but I think it's the shortest movie of these three, and it was fantastic.magicalwands wrote:It's odd, knowing it's the longest Harry Potter book, I would've thought the movie would be much longer. I just hope Yates did a better job than Mike Newell.
I liked GOF, but there were too many changes, too much added action, and the climax was too short.

I think what azul017 meant by "made-up" scenes are scenes like in GOF where McGonagall gives the Gryffindors a dance lesson for the Yule Ball. Because the whole dance lesson thing didn't help the plot much, just helped with comic relief. With Voldemort at Platform 9 3/4, it emphasizes Harry's fear for him; Bellatrix breaking out of Azkaban, I think that scene will introduce her as a character, because it isn't a very good idea to introduce important characters during the final scenes of a film.lord-of-sith wrote:Well, off the top of my head, I recognized that the scene with Harry seeing Voldemort at Platforn 9 3/4 is not in the book, as well as the Bellatrix breaking out of Azkaban scene.azul017 wrote:That said, I'm ecstatic that it'll get into the main storyline pronto without any made-up scenes,

True, I didn't mean for it to sound like I was saying they were unnecessary scenes. Both scenes are definatley there for a purpose. I was just pointing out that perhaps because those scenes were not in the book, that that would mean that more scenes actually from the book would be missing.magicalwands wrote:I think what azul017 meant by "made-up" scenes are scenes like in GOF where McGonagall gives the Gryffindors a dance lesson for the Yule Ball. I don't imagine, though, that either of those scenes will be very long.

I don't remember her appearing a lot in the book anyways. Even though Helena said she only had 5 lines, 3 of which were cut, I think she will still be in the movie for quite an amount of time. What I'm thinking is that the scene at the Ministry, is full of fighting, so there will not be much talking, just wand waving. Take Quidditch scenes for instance, it's all flying around and not much talking.Dottie wrote:We won't see much of Bellatrix anyway. I think Helena Bonham-Carter said in an interview, that she ha only like 5 scenes,of which were cut. Something like that. But she plays an important role in the climax, so I hope we'll see more of her there.

I just hope I don't crack up when I see her hair. She has it all poofed up like an anthro. I also saw a behind the scenes on OOTP. They showed a part where Helena is talking to Harry, and her voice is like the woman in Chamber of Secrets (film) when Harry is in Knockturn Alley. The woman says something like "Not lost are you my boy?"...I wasn't too fond of Helena acting like this, I hope it doesn't come off as weird, but scary.lord-of-sith wrote:Yeah, it was lines. i think Bellatrix looks fantastic in the ministry scenes but not in the other ones. and the final scenes in the trailer are confusing like who is in the green fire cause at first i thought it was Umbridge but when i paused it it wasn't, then the kids falling and stopping in midair, then those ones that are too short to get paused.
and on the Scholastic website they have a contest for seven lucky people and guests to meet J. K. for a book signing in england but it's only for 21 or younger and if your 18 below you need your parents permission on the form in order to go
it's like they don't trust us teens anymore but can trust someone who is allowed to legaly get drunk?

It's not a question of trust, it's a question of legal responsibility. Obviously, if something happens to someone who is under legal age, Scholastic doesn't want to be held accountable. 18 to 21 are safe, and it's not like you can't enter the contest at all. You need a parent's signature, what's the big deal?Disneyfreak1990 wrote:and on the Scholastic website they have a contest for seven lucky people and guests to meet J.
