Also, the "Melody Time" picture is coming together nicely- I absolutely love the "Once Upon a Wintertime" picture in the collage- too cute!

I really like sally. I didn't think Christina Ricci's round face would really fit her, but actually in the movie Sally does have a very round face, and anyway, you did make Christina fit and you did a great job on the drawing!

Latest update: Added Minnie and Daisy:

http://slave2moonlight.deviantart.com/a ... s-67020662
Didn't use any references on Minnie or Daisy. Maybe I should have, but I liked how they turned out. Remember, they're not supposed to look exactly the same but a little bit more real. Hence the way I did Minnie's ears. I didn't get very real with them though.

Well, I know that Lady and Nala are supposed to be a far more realistic animals than Daisy or Minnie, and you did make them blend in to a degree, but I think being based on something real should stay criteria for being in this work of art. They could still wear their clothes and have personality-filld expressions. Well, maybe that would be hard. What did you use for Lady and Nala, again?

Thanks blackcauldron85 and PeterPanFan.
Disney Duster: Yeah, I thought a long time about it, but there was no way I would have been happy with Daisy as an actual duck or Minnie as an actual mouse. Imagine Clarabelle as an actual cow. They are just TOO cartoony. Yet, not including them in a "Disney girls" piece didn't seem right either. That was a tough one for me to consider. Basically, it was have them like this or not at all. I may (emphasis on may) create an alternate version without them for folks who don't like the way they look in the group. I suppose it would be okay if Lady, Duchess, and Nala were cartoons too, but, yeah, I used real animals for them, and I'll also be using real animals for Bianca and Perdita (among others probably).
Side note: Next time I make an addition I will probably make another little tweak to it. I think I need to reduce Pocahontas and Giselle a bit in size. They seem a bit large to me since they are in the back. See, I first draw them and color them individually, then I resize them and add them to the group, which is the tricky part.

Fair enough, I agree with all the reasons you stated for what you did.
Except...I think Daisy and Minnie could at least look reasistic in the eyes. I realize now it's their eyes that stick out sore thumbs, because while everyone's posing, everyone also has realistic eyes. So if you could make the eyes more realsitic, smaller, bigger pupils, whatever, maybe that could work?
I don't think Poca and Giselle are too big, don't make them too much smaller!

Re: Slave2moonlight's Fan Art
Well, I totally see what you're saying, don't get me wrong, it's just that I don't want them to look creepy, ha. Like, for example, Daisy would end up looking like the characters in the live-action Howard the Duck film, and I never liked the way those eyes looked on the duck creatures. I'd be scared to see what Minnie would look like, ha. With Poca and Giselle, I would only make them the tiniest big smaller if I do. Seems like they look larger than the characters which are closer, like Cinderella and such. It wont' be a drastic or easily noticable change if I make it at all.Disney Duster wrote:Fair enough, I agree with all the reasons you stated for what you did.

These aren't Disney, but since I'm always posting the same Disney picture that I keep working on, here are two other fan art pieces I just did. New work from me comes few and far between lately because I am busy with actual illustration gigs.
First, here is a Gizmo drawing I did in pencil and colored in Photoshop. I just did it because I wanted to draw something that was easy and I could do quickly, and that I had a handy reference for. I just grabbed my VHS copy of gremlins so I could see the little pics of Gizmo, and this is what I ended up doing. It's called "Put ze Cookie Down!".

Here is a bit of Ghost Hunters fanart I did. A coupe of them have it posted in their MySpace galleries now. I basically just did cartoony versions of them. Drew it first but then redrew it all in Photoshop. I didn't use much reference for the girl, Kris, and she doesn't actually wear bangs, ha, but that's a habit when drawing cartoon girls wearing ponytails. Incidentally, Kris is such a hottie!

And this is the most recent one. I had just watched the Easter Beagle and also was on a Peanuts kick after watching a YouTube clip of my favorite Disney World cast member playing Sally in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" (singing "My New Philosophy") in which she was more adorable than ever.

I also started doing some character info things for my comic strip, Moonlight Motel:

You want to know how good an artist you are? Your picture was loading, all I saw was the little gremlin's ear, and I knew right away it was Gizmo. He looks so real and alive. It's in the eyes. EXCELLENT WORK. It's pretty amazing.
The realistic Snoopy bothers me because I can't believe a real life beagle really looks that far off from the iconic dog. It's not your fault, it's just that I never knew a real beagle doesn't look anything like Snoopy. It would have been nice if somehow you figured out a way to make them look more like their cartoon versions, like messing Woodstock's hair, maybe making the dog's nose a little longer than usual, whatever is believable.
I took a little peek at your comic stuff. Of the first one with Monty and what I thought was a Muppet, I must say Monty looks rather real, not realistic as in I couldn't tell it was a drawing, but realistic in spirit. The picture of him in glasses has that artistic real life sketch quality to it, and it's how a real person would look in an unknown snapshot. It looks like your comic will be more touching to people than sanitized stereotypical stuff. Also, the idea of having a puppet be there is just so unexpected and odd, it makes me feel instantly uneasy and if you're going for a creepy or scary quality in this comic, you have it, but it's also just plain creative. I'm find your work very impressive.

Thanks a lot, Disney Duster. I wish I would get more feedback, but I enjoy what I do get. In general, I've gotten a better reaction to the Snoopy piece than I would have given it. I did it very quickly, just because I felt like doing a Snoopy piece. I'm somewhat satisfied with how Snoopy turned out, but I wish I could have made Woodstock more like Woodstock. However, Schultz's designs are sooooo not realistic. I actually altered the look of the typical beagle quite a bit, particularly in the markings (didn't want to make him not look like a beagle). Most look like the live-action Underdog, who also doesn't look much like his cartoon counterpart. However, with Woodstock I was not familiar with any common, backyard type bird that had frazzled hair like his, ha. In trying to keep it real, I went this route.
As for my comic strip, there are samples of the actual strip in my gallery too. http://www.slave2moonlight.deviantart.com The same ones are also on Monty's MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/monty_moonlight . But Monty's not wearing glasses in either pic, ha, he has a shape around his eyes not unlike Chip 'n' Dale's, except in his case it's where there is no fur rather than a different color of fur. I did these sketches rather roughly and quickly, so that may be hard to decipher. It works better when you see it in color or with better shades of gray to it. You can also get an idea of what I mean by seeing the live-action Monty pics on his MySpace page. Thanks very much for the comments!

Oh, I see now it wasn't glasses, just furless rings. Any reasons for it? Is he a werewolf that didn't complete the transformation?
Hm, well I had a look at some of your comics. You draw them very well, especially Monty, who has lots of personality. They are funny, they remind me of get fuzzy. And they do have an air of realism. One very real one in particular, I want to know, what's the show that has the skirt and the biker shorts. Hi-15?
Also, "The Kiss" is a really good picture, I can see why it's in your avatar. Something else that stuck out to me...was there ever a fat bugs bunny, or did you make him?
And how many collages have there been so far? I saw one for Melody Time, I guess it's not finished, yet? But you have to show us when it is on this Disney forum!

Nah, it's just to give him his own look.Disney Duster wrote:Oh, I see now it wasn't glasses, just furless rings. Any reasons for it? Is he a werewolf that didn't complete the transformation?
Thanks. Oh, that show is called "Hi-5", and it's one of those shows early weekday mornings for preschoolers based on a British or Australian show (but ours has an American cast). They're two guys and three girls in their 20s that look and act kinda like the Disney face characters in the parks act (you know, super sweet and friendly, like folks usually act on preschooler shows), and the girls are really cute. It's a nice pick me up in the morning, ha. Though, for me it's usually right before I hit the sack.Disney Duster wrote: Hm, well I had a look at some of your comics. Thanks. Yeah, the Kiss is my best all-digital piece, and might be the best piece I have on the computer. It even got me the gig I'm doing now for a roleplaying card game. I just hope I continue to get gigs after that one, ha. As for the fat Bugs, I just made him up. Not sure if he's ever been depicted as fat. There was a fat girl bunny once who was always after him though.Disney Duster wrote: Also, "The Kiss" is a really good picture, I can see why it's in your avatar. Let's see, I first did Pocahontas, which I'm not currently happy with at all, but it was my first. I also did (I forget the order, and it was not significant at all) Little Mermaid, Three Caballeros, Mulan, Emperor's New Groove, The Black Cauldron, and started on Melody Time but haven't finished it. Wouldn't be surprised if I was forgetting something too. The frustrating thing is that almost all of them, including at least half of what's in my gallery, no longer exist anymore because it was mostly done on the computer and I lost it with the loss of my old computer. I thought I had saved it all to disk, but the disks didn't work for some reason. Well, that computer was really shot. So, basically, I have to redo all those collages. Don't know if I have the strength. I can't save them again off Deviant Art because I posted them as PNG images, and for some reason you can't save those off D.A. A good friend of mine keeps requesting I do Make Mine Music already, so if I can manage to finish Melody Time (which I put off a long time ago, I will probably to Make Mine Music next.Disney Duster wrote: And how many collages have there been so far? Oh well, I also noticed that your costume has the furless rings, so was that because you couldn't get the fur to cover all your eyes (you made the wholes to big), and you just kept that for the cartoon character?
Wow, you're doing a roleplaying game! Yea, I can see it, the cards of Magic look like their done similar to how your art is!
Show us the finished Disney collages, and whatever old ones you can find! I think I remember one thing from Melody Time...the ice skaters in love?

Actually, the thing about Monty Moonlight is that I first designed him to be a live-action character, sort of like Jim Varney had Ernest. He was someone I could play, hopefully to be turned into a late night horror show host, like Elvira, starting out on the Internet perhaps. Also for commercials (maybe Moonlight Madness sales, ha) or as an emcee for live-events, like classic monster movie screenings at local theaters. I don't remember if I already planned to make a comic strip of him too or not. I already had a werewolf themed comic strip called Wagner that I did at the werewolfcafe.com. I also had a typical "me and my friends" type comic strip called "The Sweet Life". Moonlight Motel, though I didn't realize it when I was developing it, really combined those two strips into one much better strip. Now, the comic strip is the main thing, and I'd like to make graphic novels someday, when I have the time and when the strip gets more popular (I'll try to send it to syndicates sometime very soon), and they would probably be themed around holidays because I'd like to see them turned into holiday specials (animated or live action, whether I play Monty or not). I still hope to make some short films of Moonlight Motel too, and maybe get the horror hosting thing going online too, at some point. But, what I was going to say was that the live-action Monty in those pics is the result of digitally altering photos of myself. I am barely working on a real Monty costume. However, the lack of much hair around the eyes, I believe, was really the result of thinking ahead. I was figuring that when I made a real costume for it, I wanted to be able to see fairly well. And, of course, the cartoon Monty is based on the live-action Monty concept. The whole set up for the strip was really just to be the background set-up for a Mystery Science Theater/Elvira type show, ha. But, yeah, still hope we can see him in live-action someday, and I'm working on a costume, but it's slow going because of cash flow. After that, I'll be working on the Seymour puppet and a Fish costume for my friend. Russell Scarecrow is loosely based on a Scarecrow costume my other best friend has, so he's good to go if I ever get around to making those films, as long as he hasn't/doesn't get rid of that costume!
Yeah, several illustrators were selected to work on that roleplaying game. It's based on a popular public domain property, but I can't disclose what it is yet. I'm psyched to be working on the subject matter though. They recently had some Magic players test it and the apparently really loved it.
Well, here are the collages I've done so far. I'd post them right here, but like I said, I no longer have them. I can only link to their Deviantart.com pages. I'll start with the latest, so as you look through them they probably will be less and less good, ha. I am not happy at all with certain aspects of the Pocahontas one (which was my first one), but I can't make adjustments now so I'll have to remake the whole thing!
