On my VHS tape, it DOESN'T say anywhere that the film was modified from it's original version & formatted to fit my screen.

Hmmm, neither does my VHS. That's a good thing to consider. I also noticed how good the front & back covers are for Disney's VHSes. Wow, everybody looks so on-model and everything.TheSequelofDisney wrote:On my VHS tape, it DOESN'T say anywhere that the film was modified from it's original version & formatted to fit my screen.

Yeah they do look on model. Oh yeah, and while I watched the movie, at the begining, it doesn't say "This movie has been modified from it's original version & it has been formatted to fit your screen." either. I wonder if it's presented in it's OAR?

If the movie <i>should</i> be presented in fullscreen, then Disney needs to come right out and say it in the DVD. They did that for <i>Darby O'Gill</i>, with an insert explaining that widescreen theatrical exhibition was not carefully framed for. If this is the case with <i>The Fox and the Hound</i> (as unlikely as it seems, based on theaters of the '80s and <i>The Rescuers</i>' DVD releases), then include a note somewhere and stop the educated guessing. It's really that simple and for a momentous release like this, a no-brainer. There will be people who don't buy it on the basis that it's fullscreen alone, so put a note on the package that this is the correct intended aspect ratio...and if not, then we can probably go on assuming that it isn't.

When Disney sends you coverart, Luke, do they give any images of what the back cover looks like? If we could get a look at the "technical specifications" section of the back cover, it may mention something. I've been looking, but haven't been able to find a site with much back coverart for DVDs.

No, they never make that available beforehand. DVD Empire usually puts up back cover scans anywhere from release date to a week in advance. Sometimes I even have a review copy by then, though.Pasta67 wrote:When Disney sends you coverart, Luke, do they give any images of what the back cover looks like? UPDATE:
hey, Disney updated their DVD part of the site, and under their upcoming titles, TFatH is listed, and they have a info site. Here's the link
Oh, and by the way, the site DOES NOT state the aspect ratio of the DVD, but it does list the featuers:
- Music And More: "The Best Of Friends" Sing-Along
- Games & Activities: Forest Friendship Game; DVD Storybook: "New Best Friends"
- Backstage Disney: "Passing The Baton" -- Golden Age Animators And The New Breed
-"THE FOX AND THE HOUND" Art Gallery
- Bonus Classic Shorts: "Lambert The Sheepish Lion"; "Lend A Paw."
The site also confirms the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound.
Sale Date: October 10th (10/10)
One thing i did find strange was how under "Collection", it was labled
"Gold Collection"...and to be honest, this worries me.

MY "FAB FOUR": 1- FANTASIA, 2- THE LION KING, 3- BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, 4- THE JUNGLE BOOK

I wouldn't worry about the Gold Collection thing, as that label hasn't been used in five years now. Truth be told, I'm not sure why you found Disney's page that exciting, considering every single piece of DVD information there has been in the first post of this thread for three days now.brotherbear wrote:UPDATE:

IGN.com has posted some information (which we already know), and some images, including the main menu (which Luke has already posted):

About those screencaps, what's the verdict, guys? Promo images or actual caps from the movie's restored transfer?
If they are actual screencaps, then I'd say this DVD's presentation is open-matte. Horray!
EDIT: Nevermind; I just noticed that one image is much taller than 1.33:1, so I guess these are promo images.

This is supposedly a screencap from the new anniversary release.

This is the screencap from the the Gold Collection from the UD review.
If the first picture is accurate then there will be great rejoicing. Can anyone identify the ratio of the bottom picture? I am guessing it is 1.66:1. If that is the case then the mystery is solved.

Aside from the too little tail Lars mentioned, there's a bit more on the other side, showing as much as an additional flower that gets cut off.
And it's reversed.
So now I'm wondering...what if the entire R2 image is reversed, but shows more on one side, while cutting off more on the other....and the R1 is normal, but cuts off on both sides, though not as much as one than the other?
Lordy, I really hope the 25AE answers all the questions about the AR....
