Hey guys, I'm new on this forum but I've been reading you since page 32 and just felt like joining the conversation !

Seeing the new toys makes me believe Rapunzel will NOT get her hair cut in the movie... You remember Mulan ? There was a doll made with the hair extension that you could put on and off with the sword that came with her... I would think logically that if Rapunzel gets her hair cut by Mother Gothel, then a doll should be made to ''reproduce that scene'' - no ?

Also, where isn't there a Mother Gothel doll ? sighhh

Quick follow up, then is her hair 'magical' in the movie?

Yes. To tell the "what" and the "how" of this would be a little more of a spoiler than I am willing to divulge, although perhaps Disney will divulge it for me at some point. There's a possibility that they may still be tweaking this plot point - it seemed a little (sorry) fuzzy in the (sorry) rough cut.

Naaah. They make dolls based on what technology they can turn out for cheap, and what they think the parents will shell out for. Also keep in mind that those dolls are further along in the production process than the movie is.

Anime fans may remember an odd toy called the Sailor Moon Moon Cycle, a relic of a time when there was talk (just talk!) of completely rewriting and reanimating the series for America. That didn't happen, so Sailor Moon never had anything remotely resembling a Moon Cycle in the show, but the toy company went ahead and sold 'em anyway.

There was more than just talk, a whole trailer was produced with hired actors and new animation. They don't have the moon cycle in there (which is hilarious in itself) but they do have the characters literally "sailing" across space.

* Rapunzel's hair will glow when it is brushed (probably how the magic in her hair is activated)
* Rapunzel will sing a song called "When Will My Life Begin?"
* "We’re told that Glen Keane was so enamoured by toddler Rapunzel that more of her was added into the film than originally planned and we can definitely see why."

Hi guys ... was told I should check in here since people have been discussing my review of Tangled. It's been a few weeks now and my memories are fading, but if you have any questions, shoot.

I don't recall the names of the songs (although that sounds reasonable), but the "glows when brushed" thing is a toy thing.

I'm surprised at the toddler Rapunzel quote. I don't recall a toddler Rapunzel in the test screening, so maybe she's been added since then. (Or I just forgot her. That's possible too, if she was at the very beginning when I was still getting used to following all the rough animation, animatics and storyboard drawings.) There is a little girl, briefly, but she ain't Rapunzel.

There wasn't much finished footage of Madame Gothel in the movie, but she's a lot more attractive than the toy. (Actually, so is Rapunzel.) She has black, tightly curled hair.

The toy is most likely not able to handle such detailed structuring in the hair. This is the basic shape of her hairdo. The details are not there. same goes for the details on Rapunzel's dress etc...

Ooooo yes good question. I REALLY hope so. I loved the CG storybook at the beginning of "A Christmas Carol." Even though I didn't care for the rest of the movie.

I doubt it though, honestly. Unfortunately.

Well Enchanted just did the book opening thing. The movie already suffers from lack of originality, lets not add to it.

I think the reason her hair isn't curly is because the toys are not finished yet. These are probably prototypes.

And a storybook opening is not outdated. It is only as dated as the fairy tales themselves, which are set in the past. But the tales, and the storybooks, are timeless.

And if you want to talk about originality, so many of Walt's films opened with books. And they were all still original. The Sword in the Stone is quite different from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and they both opened with books.

From the drawing I saw it looked more like a perm or something, very tiny black curls, but lots of them, very big on volume!

I don't believe it does ... although I don't recall for sure. That was a month ago now, and I wasn't taking notes at the time. It does begin with a fairly long expository narration by Flynn.

I know not what goes on in the toy factories of the world, but Gothel DOES have tightly curled black hair, just as robster16 said.

OK, you're right. Gothel does not have a 'fro. Tightly wavy then. Like this only tighter.

Hmmmm ... difficult to get specific without spoilers, but you covered most of the basics. Also cave, dungeon, waterfront, boat. Great stuff in the boat.
