Interesting find, Robster16!

If you can, ask the guy if he could describe the finished footage in detail. More specifically, does the film look DIFFERENT from normal CG? That is the question I need to know.

Sometimes I feel like a detective trying to piece together a crime from tiny, insignificant clues. A bit of Rapunzel news here. A bit of Rapunzel news there. An occasional concept drawing, etc...

I've still got my fingers crossed for a teaser to be attached to Alice in Wonderland.

If we're lucky, the survey was to get last minute feedback before the Super Bowl premiere (that's a big "IF"). I just don't expect the footage to look much different then the original leaked test animation for Rapunzel Unbraided:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kRO6EHhPr5g&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kRO6EHhPr5g&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Honestly? I have a hunch that the only Disney movie getting advertising during the Super Bowl is Toy Story 3. :(

I was reading this blog:

http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com/ ... h-hat.html

and found that work will be, for each animator, will be 60 hours a week. But I was reading some of the comments made by some of the artists and it seems like morale is really low right now.

One of the comments suggest that we will be getting a new title very soon, but there is a VERY slight chance that it will stay with the name Rapunzel.

Why would anyone think of renaming the movie "Rapunzel" to something else? Because they are afraid the title would suggest it to be a film targeted at girls?

Why not stick to the recognizability of the name of the character. I mean, it IS a fairytale movie, why not stick to it and go for that. It worked with "The Little Mermaid" and "The Beauty and the Beast" then why would "Rapunzel" be any different. I don't get why marketing people are always so jumpy and paranoid! Stand by your product and don't go for cheap marketing tactics to try and trick your audience, THAT is something they simply won't buy. Changing the title won't change the fact that the movie is about the journey of a blonde long-haired girl locked in a tower, trying to find her way in the outside world. Go for the recognizability of the fairytale title!!!

I seriously hope they won't go for a title I've been hearing along the lines of "The Hidden Tower" or something like that. Which would be awfull! They have been making "Rapunzel" and whatever they end up calling it, It'll always be "Rapunzel" in my book. Hell, I'll just make my own posters, book and dvd covers!!!

Where has this 'low moral' come from ? From John Lassater himself not liking the movie ? It's such a shame that all we hear is nagativity from this movie, when all of us are so looking forward to it.

Does John not want Disney to do fairy tales anymore ? I think I remember reading something about it somwehere.

From what I can remember John Lasseter was once quoted as saying that he thought the first act of Rapunzel (around the time of Glen Keane directing) was one of the best opening acts to an animated feature he had ever seen! So I doubt Lasseter has doubts or spreads negativity....

I think it's the marketing people, who have their knickers in a twist now that PATF isn't breaking records and being afraid of not being able to reach the boy and male demographic with a female fairytale title character. Marketing and money on the mind RUINS the creative process, which is why if they change the title from Rapunzel to anything else then Rapunzel I'll be starting a widespread petition online to change the title back to the original fairytale title! I will not be satisfied or happy if they go for an ambiguous title to try and trick or mislead the public!

Really? Because I saw an interview where Lasseter said he always wanted to see Disney return to making fairy tales, which explains the re-greenlighting of Rapunzel and The Snow Queen.

I agree with atlanticaunderthesea.

Even though John Lasseter produced PATF and Rapunzel, I don't think he's really all that KEANE on making fairy tales (smirk).

Don't get me wrong. Mr. Lasseter recognizes the potential of these kind of stories. He's really sincere about Disney's heritage, which was strongly rooted in fairy tales. And I'm sure he wants to keep this traditional image going. But I don't think that genre is Lasseter's favorite area in film making. Don't believe me? Then count the number of fairy tales his own studio has made since Toy Story! That's right, ZERO! Or, if you want to be technical about it, one. (The upcoming "Bear and the Bow.")

Now, back to Rapunzel....

Is Disney honestly thinking about changing the title??? Or is this some early April Fool's joke? (maybe it's a rumor started by the groundhog on Groundhog's Day).

I have a great idea:

Why don't they call it "Rapunzel Unbraided!"

John Lasseter was quoted as saying Disney shouldn't make excuses for doing a fairy tale, it's what they do best!

He also reportedly always wanted to make a princess movie, and that's why he is making The Bear and the Bow!

Of course it's probably not his favorite kind of story ever, but he still likes it and wants to do it. And Sleeping Beauty is his favorite Disney movie, or one of them! And yea, The Snow Queen is coming up, still!

And since when is Toy Story a fairy tale?

Shame about the whole debacle going on with morale at Disney. No doubt that the fact that popular audiences often have the IQ of a shoe-size has something to do with this. I really hope that they aren't changing the title as well. Actually, I really want this to do really well. If that's not too much of a miracle.

I don't understand this low morale of Disney's. It would be wrong for Disney to stop making fairy tale films because that was what they were founded on. I'm hopeful that they will stick with Rapunzel and The Snow Queen and keep the title of Rapunzel the way it is.

What I'm concerned about is that fantasty isn't the popular genre it used to be.

The morale is low because Disney's films go through story troubles which causes animators to sometimes have months with nothing to animate, awaiting scenes to go into production. This often results in lay-offs to keep the costs down. Animators are often hired for a project and then let go the minute it wraps up because they just don't have anything for them to do.

And the reason the costs need to be kept down is because Disney's films aren't making money. And ta-daa: low morale.

Pixar has a much more consistent schedule. Always work to be done.

I got some more feedback from the guy who said he saw a rough treatment for the trailer:

yeah after i took the survey i can never do it again. I didnt realize it was invite only my bad. There was no singing at all i believe, and it look like most of the scenes were daytime but they were also rough drafts for the movie. Hmmm i can't think of anything right now i dont know wht to tell you. Imdb kind of tells you the plot about the guy being a thief and all then he passes by her tower and goes in there then she hits him over the head with a pan. I hope this helped

I slightly have doubts about the info. I mean, if he really did see it only a few days ago, you'd think that he'd have some more slightly specific awnsers to the specific questions I asked him other then info we already heard about on the internet... I guess time will tell.

Fact remains that a teaser trailer or some sort of new visuals are LONG overdue. They are already pushing and promoting TRON like CRAZY and so far we have ONE still for the final film, that's it....

I was under the impression that Lasseter consciously chose not to work on fairy tale stories from the beginning since he didn't want Pixar to do anything "stereotypical" with animation. It was important for them to establish themselves as a studio that strove to do something different. Now that they're well-established they probably figure they can afford to attempt something like The Bear and the Bow. :)

SPECULATION: DISNEY TO RENAME ‘RAPUNZEL’

http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-new ... -rapunzel/

The Thief and the Tower (too similar to The Thief and the Cobbler), The Hidden Tower, Tangled, and The Switch (the last two sound like pop culture infested Dreamworks schluck). They're all crap, Rapunzel is fine.

Seriously Disney, don't rename the movie, it's fine how it is. Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty were all "princess" movies that kept the original name of the story it was based on and are pretty well liked. Renaming Rapunzel would be a mistake, considering the name Rapunzel isn't THAT princess-y and it shouldn't have a problem with mass appeal. Granted, they renamed The Frog Prince to The Princess and the Frog (the most princess-y title ever) and that probably scared off some potential audience but Rapunzel is fine. Rapunzel just seems more timeless. If they really want it to not come across as princess-y they should simply market it that way. Show the quality in the trailers and hold back the childish one-liners if possible ("Don't make me light my butt!").

Ugh! They had better not mess with this! "Rapunzel" is just so classic-sounding. I mean, you know, like "Cinderella." Just the name of the story, the name of the protagonist, the name of the princess. And nothing else! It's perfect! It's classy, it's simple, and it's worked for over 70 years. Anything else would just be ridiculous, if you ask me.

I don't think that they need to change the title, HOWEVER, I'd rather have an AMAZING movie with a crappy title than a crappy movie with an AMAZING title. So, as long as the movie is great, they can call it Girl With the Ass-Whipping Hair for all I care.

And maybe the movie will be liked by [stereotypical] boys...maybe the grrrl-power Rapunzel will be actiony enough for boys to enjoy, even with a female protagonist. I don't necessarily see how the title-change will matter, though, because it'll still be the same movie as a more boy-pleasing title. I don't know. One thought I have is, it'll be like a wolf in sheep's clothing- Rapunzel by any other name...but maybe the new title will be a reflection of the changes Disney has made to the original fairy tale...

Well, if the name is changed and if those details about the trailer are true, then that means Disney probably isn't blaming TPATF "failure" on 2-D. It's because it's a "princess" movie. And I'd rather have more non-fairy tale 2-D Disney films than noe at all.

If Disney goes through with all this, Rapunzel's Prince Charming will certainly not be "neglected" in this campaign. Shall be interesting to see how this all develops...

And TPatF is not a "failure". It's doing fine.
