Usually I don't do extreme predictions saying a certain movie will have the biggest opening weekend ever, but I truly believe Pirates 2 will break a LOT of records. Its fanbase and appeal is at least as broad as Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Depp, Bloom and Knightly are certain to cause another teenage hormone explosion as well next summer. Cars will also do well. Though the CG movie is no big event anymore, the moviegoing audience is now very much aware of Pixar's track record and brand name. Those two movies will be BIG.
Plus don't forget the Tim Allen spring/fall twosome with <i>Shaggy Dog</i> and <i>Santa Clause 3</i>. Familiar titles and a Disney star the public has taken to again and again.
Santa Clause 3 will be big, the first two were fun. I recently saw a 2-pack dvd set but knowing a third is coming I'm gonna wait for something special. Hope they make a cool gift set or something.

The numbers below have been updated with the actual 4-day weekend numbers via BoxOfficeMojo.com. All totals are current as of July 4th...

<b><i>Herbie: Fully Loaded</i></b> held strong with a respectable $10.8 million from Friday through Monday. That intake entailed a fifth place finish and a drop of just 15% from last weekend. Combined with its solid $2 million weekdays last week, <i>Herbie</i> has grossed $37 million to date and has proved surprisingly resilient after 13 days.

Let's see if its legs can keep it afloat in the face of still more big budget summer competition. In the same 4-day period, <b><i>Howl's Moving Castle</b></i> from director Hayao Miyazaki, brought in $483,539. Having already left fifteen theaters and to date grossed just $3.3 million. <i>Howl's</i> has a long way to go before equaling <i>Spirited Away</i>'s US total of $10 million in 2002-03.

The Weekend Numbers: July 1-4, 2005 via Box Office Mojo:

This is almost certainly Pals' last week as the top prediction for <i>Aliens of the Deep</i>, which is chugging on in 21 theaters.

Herbie is holding on quit well due to summer weekday legs. Looks like it will have a decent multiplier and a pretty big total when compared to its disspointing opening weekend. My $100 Million prediction is out of the question though.

Outside of the new top predictor on <i>Aliens of the Deep</i> (pinkrenata), there's not too much to say. <i>Howl's</i> seems to be performing under predictions, and while <i>Herbie</i> is holding on fairly well, it will still fall considerably under the $93 average predicted gross. Two more weeks til the next "Disney" opening - <i>Sky High</i>. If you intend to revise predictions on it, keep that in mind that time is running out.

Sky High
Total 42million

Again Like Herbie I Dont think Sky High Will Do Well. The Box Office Has been low this year and people thought some films like Star Wars, Madagascar, Cinderella Man, and Batman Begins Would Do Better. The ADs for this film also havent been promising. This Film is also going Up against Micheal Bays The Island. Thi is also like sharkboy an lava girl and that didnt do very well either. But It will do a lil better than that.

Heres What The Box Office Should Look Like That
1. The Island 42million
2. Charlie And The Choclate Factory 26million
3. Fantastic 4 14million
4. Wedding Crashers 13.5 million
5. Sky High 12million
6. War Of The Worlds 10million
7. Batman Begins 8million

With two films ceasing to be tracked, that leaves just three predicted films still in play at the box office. After a month in theaters, <i>Herbie</i> has fallen out of the Top 10. Despite a slow start, its strong weekdays have propelled it to over $60 million and it should continue to rack up a few million more before summer is done. <i>Aliens of the Deep</i> will be coming to DVD on November 1, but that doesn't mean it will be out of theaters by then; <i>Ghosts of the Abyss</i>, which was released to DVD over a year ago, is still playing in two IMAX theaters and accumulating a few thousand dollars per week. <i>Aliens</i> needs almost another $2 million for a leader change and with weekend grosses of under $50 thousand, that will take a while. <i>Howl's Moving Castle</i> is fading fast. It's down to just 80 theaters and has grossed just $4.3 million, which is considerably less than most people's predictions here. Last weekend, its $77 thousand intake put it in 37th place, only four spots above <i>The Honeymooners</i>, which also in its 7th week, earned more per theater. One has to wonder if Disney will keep <i>Howl's</i> in theaters until Oscar season if it continues to put up such paltry numbers.

<i>Sky High</i> opens this Friday, which makes Thursday the last day to revise your predictions on it.

I'm going to lower Valiant from $35 to $25 million. There's three other movies opening wide that day and Valiant would be 3rd on my list out of the 4 to see so I think it's going to not do good at all. Plus it's late August when not too many people go to the movies.

whoaw, Im back :P I was in Canada for 3 weeks and I saw Sky High over there. Big crowd and great repsonse, so I was curious to see how it was doing at the B.O. I saw at boxofficemojo.com that it is currently at $37,189,527 in its second weekend. My prediction is $55 m, so it looks like I finally have a good prediction. Can't believe I had Herbie at $100 m :P

Anyway, too bad, there's not a lot of people posting in here  It seemed like such a refreshment from all the "vote for fav princess" competitions :P

Edit: crap, I just saw I revised my Sky High prediction to $65 m after seeing the trailer... now I'm still way off

I wouldn't say way off. It's a little behind <i>Herbie</i> which is nearly at $65 M. If I were able to revise my prediction now (which I'm not as far as this game is concerned), I'd say $60 M for <i>Sky High</i> now. That's surprisingly solid, even more than <i>Hitchhiker's</i> remarkably enough. It'll be curious to see how <i>Valiant</i> does, with release date less than a week away and promotion only slightly detectable. I'll update all the numbers after this weekend.

great! and yeah, Valiant is tough to predict... hardly any promotion at all. It completely bombed here in Holland. But then again it wasn't distributed by Disney over here.

I don't think it's going to do too good. There's alot of competition that weekend. I think once parents read the word "war" in the movie's premise they'll skip it since they don't want their kids to see a movie about it.

I don't think that Chicken Little will get 145.9 M maybe as much as Valiant. Because, from what I saw from the previews to me both movies look pretty much the same. But I do agree with you on The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe it should be really successful.
