I can't believe Im elaborating on this but if we are to take it within context the lines are:

"Well, maybe if we reasoned with her."

"Reason?"

"With Maleficent?"

"Well, she can't be all bad. You know sometimes I don't think she's very happy."

With that line following "she can't be all bad" it may signify that Fauna actually sees Maleficent could be doing some terrible things only because something is troubling her, and she may actually have some kind of reasons for her deeds. And this is where I suppose Linda Woolverton and Tim Burton will kick in...

Now that I think of it, the reason seems to be her ego, she needed everyone to recognize her and her power, they completely ignored her and they got a dead princess. This extreme desire to be seen and paid attention to may have been bolstered by her lonely castle devoid of any important, high, intelligent, hell, even human-like life.

I bet Mally had an inferiority complex growing up. That'd explain her need to be accepted, even by her enemies. Along with her grandiose showing off of her powers. It's never enough for her, she needs to show she's worth a damn. A well-aimed bolt of lightning from her staff to Phillip would've knocked him out, instead she goes all Dragon on him.

first time I watched this, This is exact same thought I had of Mally. It was pretty obvious from get-go. Her boastful pride is no different from Aizen's from Bleach. Only difference is Aizen actually smart and intelligent and handle situation extremely well as oppose to Mally.

Is Tim Burton going to do a fairy tale adaptation based on Disney's, "Sleeping Beauty," called, "Maleficent?" I read rumors about it, and it sounds interesting.

I had heard about it, too. I was all excited, but I'm pretty sure that I've also heard that it was just a rumor that has since been debunked.

Was the Maleficent movie just a rumor? I thought it had been confirmed? I mean, I thought it was still up in the air if Burton would be involved, but I thought it was a for sure thing that the movie was happening? I mean, I remember seeing on a some media news show that "Angelina has her eyes on Disney's Maleficent"?

That totally reminded me of a scene from Reboot between the mad semi-villain Hexadecimal and the hero, where she gives him biscuits and dances with him.

I love how that picture keeps coming back even it's been almost two years since I posted it.

One thing I love too in the book is that Aurora and Maleficent both keep mentioning that Phillip's hair is a mess, his boots are muddy, his clothes are messy, and that he smells like a horse. Apparently Phillip isn't the most hygenic prince out there with his attire and smelling like the stalls.

as for that pic, I was planning on drawing a manly phillip at one point. Might still do it.

When I see Disney's earliest movies, like Snow White, Pinicchio, Fantasia and Bambi, and to some degree Sleeping Beauty, I get an impression of what Disney's original visions were. And they were not funny animated musicals made for children. Not that I mind movies with a couple of song numbers or some funny moments, but different kind of content now and then is refreshing.

I think on of the reason why Disney lost much of the spark when it comes to animation, was because it was hard or impossible for him to make the kind of movies he wanted.
Like so much else, it would be interesting to enter an alternative timeline, where he was actually able to do that, and see the results.

Do you think that there are any movies that are really what Walt wanted?

Every film he made, including the early ones you mentioned, had songs and funny moments and those were important to him, too. He even stressed things like how he wanted the songs to advance the story, or how funny he wanted a character. It was still what he wanted to do.

And what do you think are the things he didn't really want to do? Because except for a few exceptions, his films are still very much him. He gave the final say on everything, even Sleeping Beauty which some others took over more while he worked on Disneyland.

Is there anything you know, you have heard or read, that would reveal what he really wanted to do?

Snow White was singing and dancing because it was Disney's first feature. Back then, they were still learning, and had to do what they already knew. As time went by, they became better on pretty much all areas.

Fantasia was a movie about music, and in Pinocchio, he sings because it is a real musical number with an orchestra playing. Nothing that couldn't happen in real life.

In Bambi, there is background music, but no musical numbers.

He loved Dumbo, but he used the old recipe when he did it, because it had to make some money.

During the war years, Disney had to "prostitute" himself. His first feature after that was Cinderalla, and he had to make something he knew the audience would like if the studio was to survive.

But in the 50's, the park and live action movies stole a lot of his attention from the features, and some of them, like Alice in Wonderland, was made in a much lighter and more children friendly tone than the version he would have made in the 40's.

After Sleeåing Beauty and during the production of 101 Dalmatians, he seriously considered to close the whole animation department (he had already closed the shorts division).

My main source is Neal Gabler's book about Walt Disney, and some articles, where among others Adreas Deja is interviewed.
What I really disliked about Neal Gabler's biography, was how he tried to reshape Walt Disney the man in his own image. But the neutral and objective facts he included, were interesting and informative. And he had free access to the Disney vault, so it consider them pretty reliable.
