the absolute easiest thing to do is just download it off of kazaa. thats what i did. its a great movie though kinda with a freaky after effect.

i wish someone would post a full dvd iso of the song of the south ld rip to suprnova or something. the divx and mpeg (kvcd) ones i have dled are so horrible looking i don't even want to watch it. last time i saw sots was during some 1980s re-release when i was a kid. i don't wanna ruin the experience on a crappy encoded one.

Nothing unusual, Udvarnoky

As they mention at the bottom of their pages, eFilmic is based in Taiwan. Therefore the majority, if not all of their DVDs for sale are pirate copies. Certainly all their Disney titles are!

Check out their <a href="http://www.efilmic.com/product.asp?PID= ... D=19">Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs</a> - this is the same cover as used on the 1990 VHS release.

So why not include Song Of The South in their catalogue?

Altough you are correct in your conclution on that this is bootlegs you are totaly wrong on the indications.

Asia is a large market for DVDs as well is Taiwan. There are lots of legal shops that sells legal copyes, so it would be unpolite to the Asian population to say that all that comes from Asia is bootleg.

Since this is Asia then the cover could easily be a remake of an old VHS cover from another region as well.

But looking thru the site and notising that all DVDs are Region 0, that indicates that it is bootleg becaus no big studio release their movies in Asia as region 0.

Okay, perhaps I should have been more specific as to how I came to my conclusion, but either way here's a challenge...

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find a Taiwanese DVD site that sells legitimate R3 encoded Disney DVDs that are "Made In Taiwan" - and therefore have the same covers as shown on http://taiwan.disney.com

I have come across loads of sites selling VCDs from Taiwan with maybe a few DVDs thrown in here and there but I have yet to find a site based in Taiwan that just sells R3 DVD to an international market (i.e. the site, like eFilmic.com, must be in English to qualify).

You have 24 hours and your time starts... NOW!

Actually, I don't think it's parallel to All in the Family. All in the Family was a program especially created to make fun of racist/xenophobic/bigotted attitudes. It was meant to counter racism, not endorse it. The attacks leveled against Song of the South, whether valid or not, is that it employs a more subtle (and presumably vicious) form of racism--a covert, rather than overt form. I think a program like All in the Family could be made today, though I'm not certain they could find writers as good as those that did the original.

I do think, however, that Song of the South should be released on DVD. At best, its critics will be pleasantly surprised that it's not the ultraracist movie some would have us believe. At worst, it'll be viewed as a less-than-politically-correct document of its time. Nobody will view it as an accurate portrayal of its times or of today's sensibilities.

I talked with the guy in charge of DVD production for Disney tonight and asked if we'd see Song of the South on DVD soon and he said, "No. No. [mumble] keep thinking about it." I think the last thing he said was, "We keep thinking about it," but I couldn't quite tell.

Well now you know also that it will not be released in the USA. Their are legal reasons that are tieing up this film. It has never been released in the USA, and Bootleg DVD's are fluent on the web. Disney needs to release this on DVD and VHS in the USA. But I dought that is going to happen any time soon.

that really doesn't mean anything. it's obvious that song of the south will eventually see a dvd release, it's become the original star wars trilogy of disney's film library.

I have a copy of the video of both PAL and NTSC. I love watching this film and would love it on DVD. I've been tempted to get a DVD copy on the web. I figure if Disney is going to release it, their loss. I still get their copy when (if) they release it.

Disney knows there's customers out there willing to buy it and they're screwing themselves over by not releasing it. Millions of dollars is made probably each year just through the $40 a pop bootleg sales of DVDs/Videos (of course, I got my DVD for only $7.50). SOTS is a goldmine that Disney doesn't want to touch because they're so damn afraid of people calling it racist.

IMO, SOTS is not a racist movie. It's seen through the eyes of a child, Johnny, which is probably why everyone's so damn happy. To Johnny, the African Americans are just workers at his grandmother's plantation. Hell, he even prefers playing with Toby over the Faver boys. When you're 6 or 7 years old, you don't think about things like "Ooh, his skin color is darker than mine! He's different, and that's bad". Johnny saw Uncle Remus, Aunt Tempy, Toby, and all the other hired hands as just people. Through Johnny's eyes, his grandmother's workers enjoy living with her, and they apparently have a good times if they can gather round to hear stories of Br'er Rabbit, sing "That's What Uncle Remus Said" and even sing on the way to work ("Let the Rain Pour Down"). He's only 7, and he hasn't yet been corrupted by conflicting ideas of what makes a person.
