Laz, I do not think that the raven being turned to stone (which could be death or not, we can't really be sure since death is, well, such a mysterious subject) made her want to go after Phillip all that much more, but I do know that I did hear the Disney filmakers say there is a technique for making villains more human (or more real, or more 3-dimensional, I forget what word they used) by giving them a pet to love, I guess to replace the love they should have for more humans around them. Even without that quote, I think Maleficent cares for her raven, the same way the Devil would care for anything that gives him pleasure. And you can't flat out say Snow White is an idiot. Marc Davis, when he animated Bambi, said children don't pretend, they show their expressions and what they're feeling inside right away, hence things like her mouth and eyes getting big before she does anything. Snow White is 14, has an absent father and mother while she cleans all day, and is, as has been said, extremely innocent and good, thinking only the best of people, though she gets startled. So she may get startled by both the prince, and the hag (and trees and bunnies), but then if they act kindly to her, she will be friendly to them.

The way Disney set-up Snow White and the hag was this: At first, the hag offers the apple to Snow White through the window. Snow White doesn't let her inside. Then, the hag is attacked, and Snow White can't help but feel she is in pain and needs help, no matter how ugly she looks, and gives her rest and water. Then, she feels she can't turn down her apple because the apple is meant as the hag's return for the kindness Snow White gave her. To turn it down would hurt her feelings and be disrespectful. Snow White's desire to make everyone feel better far outweighs any thoughts to protect herself. I admit that even at 14, Snow White should probably not have a soul that is so...snow white (get it?), but that's what she's supposed to be, this girl who's that kind and that's why there's a story about her in the first place.

Jay, don't let everything Lazario said get to you. The Queen could very well be a better villain in quite a few ways, comparing things to other things only gets us so far. And you're theories about the huntsman being with hers sexually or Maleficent being in her court don't have to be ruled out if you think there's evidence for it, if you think the film is indicating those things somehow. Maleficent does have a very familier relationship with the fairies and King and Queen, and there is a Disney book which says Maleficent was once part of the King's court! But I don't know if that book was saying that officially, I really want to know if that book was telling the truth. If only we could search the archives for this background info! Oh, and the Queen does smile slightly when telling her Mirror that "Snow White lies dead in the forest." But you're theory that she isn't comfortable having to act like she's not evil inside, and then gets to show her full evil as the hag, is very interesting and I can see how she is more lax as the hag and probably enjoys it. She does certainly smile more then, doesn't she!

Disney's Divinity, your new banner/avie combo...I like the banner a lot, but it makes me feel weird, because after Esmeralda almost dies, Quasimod is looking very happy and singing. I'm also not sold in the choice of avatar, but there's no denying you have a very haunting new set, and I like it better than the Princess and the Frog's.
