Well, that DVD info sure is baffling. Come on, Disney: we know you love Blu-ray, but it wouldn't hurt to treat DVD owners with respect either.
I don't have a hi-def TV, but I will get on the Blu-ray bandwagon with Snow White. It's nice (and sad at the same time) to know that Blu-ray gets a lot of exclusive extras in addition to better video quality. I'm not happy that Disney's marketing is downright shady, though.
If Disney really wants to get more people to buy Blu-ray, how about lowering the prices of the films? Over here films cost almost twice as much on Blu-ray than on DVD, and that sort of thing affects a lot of customers who aren't willing to spend extra cash on films which they can easily buy on DVDs. Once prices go down, I'm sure people will become more willing to invest in Blu-ray in greater numbers.
In any case I can't wait to get my hands on Snow White. It's been a while since I've seen it, and I'm interested in watching it (as well as the extras) on Blu-ray. I'm also curious of the audio restoration and how well it works.

Some things you see with your eyes, others you see with your heart.
I'm going to be sticking to DVD. Blu-rays would be nice, but the prices for them are a big disadvantage for me. The blu-rays here cost $30 compared to just $15 for the Platiunum/Special Edition DVDs. Again, I care more for the movie itself and not so much the bonus features.
Say no to moldy, disgusting crackers!
HUH? Of course I care more about the film than I do about the bonus features (yes, I know you didn't adress me specifically, but I felt the need to answer). It's just that the lack of bonus features is disgraceful for something that is called a Platinum/Diamond/Special Edition.IagoZazu wrote:I'm going to get the Snow White DVD since I don't own the movie. Unlike most people, I care more about the movie itself than the bonus features. The only bonus features that would intrest me would be a "making of" documentary and some deleted songs or scenes.

I think the DVDs are not even called Diamond Editions. Just 2-Disc Sets. It says so in the R3 copies here and I think it's the same case with the R1..
I have the previous Plaitnum DVD so I'm in no hurry in picking up the Blu-ray. I might get it before Christmas.
Apparently, I believe that this format war between Blu and DVD is run by a prophecy a la Harry Potter vs Voldemort: "Neither can live while the other survives"
okay, enough for corny jokes.
But I think Disney realized that if Blu-ray is to succeed, they need to get rid of the previous format. I enjoy and prefer movies in HD myself (and I agree with one poster who said that it's more of a want rather than a necessity) but I don't think it needs to come to a point that those who preferred to stick to the old format are deprived of what they could also be enjoying. Of course, I understand the limitations of DVD so the absence of features like Disney View are acceptable (I found them to be more of a source of annoyance in my Pinocchio Blu-ray rather than an improvement
)

Both the R1 (US) edition and the R2 (UK) edition state that it is a "2-Disc Set" and nothing more. I don't know however, about the R2 of other countries. So, the new DVD editions of the equivalent Diamond blu-rays will neither be called Platinum nor Diamond but just 2-Disc sets.supertalies wrote:OMG!rj.disney wrote:I think the DVDs are not even called Diamond Editions. You're right! The R2 edition doesn't state it's a Diamond edition! it only says 2 disc deluxe edition!
In the case of releases of non-Diamond blu-rays ala Dumbo probably both DVD and Blu-ray will share the name given which in this case is Special Edition.

Well, here in Holland, it's kinda strange. On the slipcover they only say 2-Disc DVD while on the actual cover they state it's a 2-Disc Deluxe Edition.sotiris2006 wrote:Both the R1 (US) edition and the R2 (UK) edition state that it is a "2-Disc Set" and nothing more. Anyway, there still isn't a sign of it being a Diamond Edition.

I know the 2-Disc DVD is being shafted because of the push for blu-ray. That was going to be obvious. I'm not dissing blu-ray or promoting DVD, I'm just strapped for cash right now and the prices for the blu-ray are unforgiving to me. I would be more willing to buy them if it wasn't for that.
The bonus features might be disgraceful or lousy or however you want to discribe it, but the point here is that I never even owned the original Platinum Edition. The first time I discovered they were making 2-disc DVDs alongside blu-ray Diamond Editions, I knew they were going to be pushed to the side. Diamond Editions would obviously have all the juicy stuff, while the leftovers and scraps would be in those 2-Disc DVDs for us dinos. I'm going to get that anyway since it works out better for my money.

I was talking about the Dutch DVD. By the way, it's called "2 disc dvd" here. It has a "Walt Disney Classic 1" logo on the side. Likewise, the Oliver & Company dvd had a "Classic 30" on the side. The Snow White dvd came with a leaflet of stickers numbered 1 to 52, which one can stick onto the dvds they already own.Dragonlion wrote:Goliath, is that the US DVD you're talking about or another..?

I can't believe all the hatred for Blu-ray. 10 years from now people will say that "Super-Blu-ray" (or whatever) is more a luxury than a necessity, and that they'll only need their Blu-ray's and will stick with them.
Blu-ray is the future and they are better than DVD, so I don't understand those who say that they will never buy anything else than DVDs. Did you guys say the same thing about VHS when DVDs were the new format? And are you planning to buy DVDs 20-30 years from now also? Why not embrace new and better technology and stop fighting the future.

Don't feed into it - it's the same thing all the time.Prince Edward wrote:I can't believe all the hatred for Blu-ray. 10 years from now people will say that "Super-Blu-ray" (or whatever) is more a luxury than a necessity, and that they'll only need their Blu-ray's and will stick with them.

I know that bluray will take over but that still does not justify making a 2 disc with barely any extras or confusing costumers and I found out that about 60 or 70 percent of people thought they were getting the dvd, so in actuality you bluray fan's seem to not want to admit that disney is using some bad tatics to push bluray and i is not fair to lhave people who own dvds to not be able and to mislead them. So all in all this is how I feel.
Walt Disney always belived in quality, bring the quality back.

I'm with you, schoollover. Blu-Ray is OK. DVD is OK. They're all the movies we love, and we're all the fans that love them. Let's all enjoy our delicious bonus features (Please, Disney!), enjoy our movies, and stop fighting. Us DVD people won't trash your enjoyment of your amazingly advanced technology, but you Blu-people must kindly stop bashing our cost-effective and still pretty darn good way of watching movies!
