Are you 100% that it'll be DVD only, cause from what I understand, they have restored the film to hi-def, so it could easily be coming day- and- date with the DVD or a little behind.Escapay wrote: Oliver & Company- 20th Anniversary Edition (DVD only, it will not be on Blu-Ray)

Well My opinion on Oliver and Co. Being on Blu Ray is this..
I agree that it will be on Blu Ray...but perhaps it won't be on the date the DVD gets released....they did the same with BeetleJuice DVD and Blu Ray was touched up to be released a month or two later than it's release day though it's not Disney...

With Disney's DVD and Blu-ray releases already announced through March, you can bet it won't be on Blu-ray that soon. It's clearly not coming alongside the DVD and therefore it seems pretty unlikely for a Blu-ray to be released on its own anytime soon. I would guess it could be years, even. Unless Disney decides to go all 2000 Gold Collection on us for Blu-ray. But I'm pretty sure the sales numbers aren't there to support such an extreme push anytime soon, if ever.disneyboy20022 wrote:I agree that it will be on Blu Ray...but perhaps it won't be on the date the DVD gets released....they did the same with BeetleJuice DVD and Blu Ray was touched up to be released a month or two later than it's release day though it's not Disney...

halfbreed - I'm sorry, but while you may think bluray.com is the most accurate site in the whole world, which it may have been up until this point, how could they have information Disney itself has not given us? Why would Disney have announced its Blu-Ray line-up through 2011 and somehow managed to overlook Oliver & Company? Oh yeah, because it couldn't. Disney did announce a new Oliver DVD, and I'm willing to bet bluray.com assumed that in the year 2009, any new DVD coming out would HAVE to have a Blue disc with it, I mean, it's 2009, right?! Well, bluray.com clearly doesn't understand Disney - they are just backwards enough to still be re-releasing DVDs solo in the year 2009 without an accompanying Blu for most likely many years to come.
Disney has already told us about Blu releases of 'Snow', 'Pinnoch', the 'Fantasias', 'Beauty' - everything for the next three years. They are really trumpeting these releases - they have to, they need to ensure the return of the money it's costing to make these Blu releases. They have not announced a Blu release for 'Oliver' and 2009 is less than a month away. It's not happening. Disney would know better than bluray.com. I think bluray.com made an assumption with the new Oliver & Company DVD that there just had to be a Blu release, also. And as much sense as that would make, it's just not Disney's style.

LOL, bluray.com is correct. They don't post BS information unless it's happening. I check the site regularly and have only recently seen this added. And if I remember correctly they actually had the Pinocchio bluray information up about a day before Disney themselves officially announced it. So until they take that page down it is happening like it or not. You don't work for Disney so you don't REALLY know how they operate and if they are doing something different. And to be honest Disney has proven to be fairly unpredictable about recent releases (45th anniversary edition of Mary Poppins anyone?) And as stated on the page for Oliver is is saying it is slated for 2009, that's a long time. I am NOT saying it will be out in Feb because I personally don't think it will, but there is a 12-month span for them to play with (well I guess technically 10). So I am standing by my belief that it's happening until the information is removed.Neal wrote:halfbreed - I'm sorry, but while you may think bluray.com is the most accurate site in the whole world, which it may have been up until this point, how could they have information Disney itself has not given us? I could see the potential for a Summer blu-ray release for this film. It would give them the time to do it. If not, then maybe in the fall. All that Disney has announced are the Platinums. Have we forgotten that Disney tends to announce PE's years in advance and only give us a few months advance warning about any other film being released? I would also think its safe to asume that the PE's would've been on Blu from now on with an official announcement from Disney or not.
The fact is Blu-ray sales are growing a lot. Most electronic retail stores can tell you that blu-ray players are one of the hottest items this holiday season. I think the upgrade is in full swing, and Disney would've seen this happening months ago.
Disney has the tendency to surprise us a lot. Mary Poppins 45th Anniversary Edition, The Tarzan 2-disc special edition that got downgraded to a single disc a month before it's release, Peter Pan's PE that no one expected, The Announcement of 4 more titles to the Platinum line up, I also think that we didn't really know about Pocahontas's 10th Anniversary edition before a month or so it was released.... My point is, we can't even try to predict what Disney has up their sleeves. Although I doubt a Feb release is possible I don't think we can call bluray.com a liar just yet.

We did. Well, we knew an SE was coming since it was originally going to be part of the "Masterpiece Edition" line-up with Alice in Wonderland, Lilo & Stitch, and Mary Poppins. Then Disney reshuffled their plans and Alice in Wonderland was the only ME, while Poca & Mary became Anniversary Editions and L&S got an international release and no R1 release.singerguy04 wrote:I also think that we didn't really know about Pocahontas's 10th Anniversary edition before a month or so it was released....

I believed it was coming on BD also, from the moment I read the press release....because up at the top in bold letters it clearly states:
Finally Releasing from the Disney Vault on DVD and
for the First Time EVER in High Definition!
Regardless of the explanation that was given to me, I believe they truly mean blu-ray and are down-playing the release because it doesn't have as wide of appeal as some of the others they are harping up.

A moderator at the Animated News & Views forum emailed Disney. Here is their response:
But as for what bluray.com says - I'll believe it when I see it.
The "first time ever in high definition" just means it has been cleaned up and whatnot - for a probable several year later Blu release.Dear Daniel,
Thank you for your e-mail regarding OLIVER & COMPANY. We appreciate your interest.
The scheduled Feburary release is for DVD only; we do not have a Blu-ray release date at this time.
But as for what bluray.com says - I'll believe it when I see it.
