Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader gets a release date!

Post by DisneyLuver »

Twentieth Century Fox and Walden Media will release The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader on Dec. 10, 2010.

I'm soo excited!
Too bad Disney is out.

EDIT: I just realized this isn't Disney anymore... :( So I guess someone could move this? Thanks.

That was my immediate reaction as well. :pink: :pink:
But I have a feeling it won't be as "magical" as it would have been if Disney made it.. .

Walden's still making it, so quality shouldn't be as worriesome as the logo change.

True, true.
Hopefully it'll be as amazing as the first two!
Less than two years to go!

I'm glad someone picked up the ball. I didn't want to see this series die after just two movies!

That art was briefly shown on the Prince Caspian DVD along with another. I took screencaps of both:

That concept art is awesome. I hope Disney is kicking themselves in the pants.

Prince Caspian was the #10 movie of 2008 (worldwide) with 419.7 MILLION earned. How can you consider that a failure? I think the other reasons given for ending it were a cop-out, too.

I will be there to see it.

to those saying this is off topic, its not really. its a continuation of a movie franchise started at Disney. The fact that they dropped out is just a minor detail that few will likely even realize when all is said and done. And really, since it was never technically from Disney in the first place, a topic like this is about as off topic as a Pixar film before the merge.

Until the "Lion" and "Caspian" special editions come out and the logo is FOX.

And Studios only like domestic success, that's why "Golden Compass" was the nail in the coffin for New Line as an independent company.

Okay I Have a question that might be considered dumb.....

Is Disney going to just sell the rights that they had with the first two Narnia films to Fox or will it be that Disney will only have the first two and Fox (if they go that far which I hope it does) have the rest.....?? Or will Walden Media buy the Disney ones up so that way for those waiting for a box set it would happen easier....to whoever (presumably fox at the moment) release it...Or will it come to Disney gives the rights up from Narnia due to a type of proccess like eminent domain??

I think they completely gave up the rights to all the films.

From what I understand, Disney still has distribution rights over LWW and PC. While it's possible Disney may sell it off to Fox and/or Walden, I doubt it'll be the case, or that decision would've been made already. So I think when all is said and done, the first two Narnia films will be Disney and the rest Fox. It's really not unheard of in Hollywood. MGM released the first Terminator movie, TriStar did the second, and WB the third (and upcoming semi-reboot). Columbia distributed the first Hellboy film while Universal came out with the second. So while it mildly bothers me that Narnia is broken up between two studios, I'm just going to remain grateful that the series is even continuing at all, especially with most of the same cast and crew. What I'm curious about is whether or not we'll get a new logo for the franchise since it was Disney's marketing department that came up with the current one.

It's too bad they split this series up. As you mentioned with the Terminator series, we probably won't ever be getting a boxed set for the first three movies, maybe for this new trilogy coming out. It also kind of messes things up at the theme parks, for instance, Universal Studios has the T2 4-D attraction, and Six Flags is getting that new Terminator: Salvation roller coaster. If there is a series of movies, I'd prefer them to be all represented in one place or package (e.g. Star Wars or Indiana Jones).

In the end, I think Disney will be kicking itself for this.

Maybe. I heard that what drove them into Narnia was that they were kicking themselves for turning down Lord of the Rings.

Do they own the rights to any of the other Chronicles of Prydain books or just The Black Cauldron? If Disney feels they need a fantasy series, they could get into this one some more. Maybe a live-action version.

Narnia is just perfect for the Kingdom Hearts franchise...

I'm already over the fact Disney isn't doing this, I'm just excited to see this movie. And I will see this movie multiple times.
