I've heard rumours that Johnny Depp was bagged for the role of the Riddle in the next one??

Anyone else hear about this?

Just an IMDB rumor gone wild. Depp is always rumored to be playing someone in the next movie of a franchise. Don't put any weight on this at all.

Other rumors are Angelina Jolie as Catwoman and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin.

All terrible choices as far as I'm concerned.

Anyways I think Johnny Depp could do a pretty good job in the role, I rather disliked Jim Carrey when he did it. To me it was too comical, couldn't really take the villainous side seriously. Also I find it odd that three villain names have been thrown out there while Two-Face is still there

...it's still speculation. Until Chris Nolan says "I've just cast Johnny Depp as the Riddler!", it's all just talk, which amounts to nothing.

Hey big question for everyone and anyone...

WHY in the movie, and trailer, and previews, and spots, for this film, The Dark Knight, does it have the bat symbol falling through water?!

At first I thought...shouldn't that be for The Penguin? And then I thought maybe there would be some connection in the movie I would be okay with...but I saw it, and no. I thought the movie was great, though.

My friend suggested the part with the ferries on the water. The ones that were pending to blow up. But I don't think so. 'Specially since they didn't blow up, to fall into the water.

I always thought it was blue fire, in keeping with the cool colours of the film and 'watch(ing) the world burn'.

I always felt it was fire/explosions with the bat symbol coming through it. I noticed there are not opening credits, other than just the movie company logos.

My guess, its metaphorical. The bat symbol coming through the chaos of the explosions. Rising from destruction and anarchy. The bat symbol itself was blurry around the edges, showing how the chaos effected the bat symbol, tainted it. As Batman was tainted by the end of the film.

Thanks everybody. From some other stuff I've seen, I guess it is fiery explosions, except in blue. I don't know why they chose blue as the colors for the film, though. Purple would have worked for associations with the Joker (his suit) and Batman was purple in some incarnations, and purple reminds me more of a dark night than bright blue. Green could have worked with the Joker's hair and it looks evil (though maybe it's too Riddler). Hell, white or red, also from the Joker, could have worked. Yes, a white explosion would still look like a bright, bad explosion. Or even better, white and red.

Anyway, the teaser had the Bat symbol being destroyed by blue light, so I guess it reinforces the idea of batman being destroyed, dismantled, "tainted". Basically Batman has something bad happen to his image.

Blue is considered a cold color, so I guess the rational behind a blue fire was to emphasize the coldness of the city, of the times this Batman is emerging through. Also it's a symbolic contrast: A cold, dark color representing something warm and fierce.

And on a semi-related note, I just got back from seeing it for the third time on the big screen. Let me tell you, the site of a movie here in Israel still packing in theaters 3 weeks after it's innitial release is impressive, to say the least. As for my personal experience? This movie seems to improve upon every viewing. Kudos to Nolan's team for creating what I am finally willing to admit is a comic-book movie masterpiece and a damn good crime movie, worthy sitting on a shelf alongside Goodfellas, The Departed etc... Moreover, this movie goes to show that a movie can handle multiple villians without seeming like a horrible train-wreck of an accident.

Lot of people have been saying this, but I heard a long time back that what was planned was a trilogy, and I'm constantly surprised by other people who did not get the feeling I did from "Dark Knight" that it was a cliffhanger a la "Empire Strikes Back" and "Dead Man's Chest".
