But if the movie is good, the acting is good and the script is solid why bash it?

If I were to see a movie that was well-written and acted but shot horribly and/or had lousy production design, it would still hamper my liking of the film. Those are important aspects of the film. It's the same deal as "A Christmas Carrey". I mean, some of the production art I've seen looks pretty nifty. I bet some of the character design is neat, too. But every time I see a character "act", it just looks straight from a PS3. The movie could have a wonderful script with great ideas on paper and Jim Carrey could actually show some much-needed restraint, but the awkward mo-cap and uncanny valley-esque "animation" would still prevent me from fully immersing myself in the movie.

I didn't like The Polar Express. I thought the animation was odd, but it wasn't issue. The issue was the story and how the characters were written. Yet, I am 100% sure that most of the criticisms are aimed at the animation and not the poor story.

When I discussed the movie a ways back, I called the movie out on both. Nearly every aspect of the movie was unappealing to me, from the child possessed by Eddie Deezan to every authority figure sounding like Tom Hanks to the out-of-place video game sequences to the lame songs to the glassy, dead-eyed mo-cap characters. It basically amounted to everything I loved about the book being beaten slowly to death by a motion-capture device.

I haven't seen it, but I know that this film is great and I consider it a masterpiece. I can't believe that the reviews are so negative all because of the motion-capture.

Wow. I loved this film, so much! My jaw was dropped for a good portion of the run-time. It is visually stunning (oh, words cannot express!), and the music was gorgeous. But what made it wonderful, truly spectacular, was the faith to and obvious love for Dickens' most beloved tale, so evident in every bit of the cinematography, writing, and acting. Carrey was very restrained. The only time we see him as we are used to him is in the final scenes, in which Scrooge is always meant to be deliriously happy, and a little wild. A wonderful experience. Sometimes chilling, sometimes thrilling, always delightful. If you haven't yet, you simply must see this film!

In MY PERSONAL opinion, it's a MASTERPIECE. Can't find words to describe my feelings while watching it. Just wonderful, specially for Christmas lovers (like me). God Bless Us Everyone!

I have done combo WTF/WIST's before, where one line is the WTF and the next is the WIST. I'll think about doing the Mickeyfan/Brenders one as a WTF/WIST combo (which technically I could do since Wondy is only caretaker of complete WTF's while a WTF/WIST combo is like, half of WTF). But I just love the Hokey Pokey one so much I wanna keep it there a little while longer.

You're not alone...I went fore a couple years on this site until knowing what WIST or even WTF meant....I don't mean to turn this thread around however your signature is great....I read that script a long time ago about Holland....being an Aspie myself....depending on the age you are at you try to read a lot about it.....I wonder how many of Aspies who are on UD have read that article.....but I must admit I haven't thought of it for ages....but it was my mental version of the bible through elementary school

There was one time I told someone on Runescape I had Asperger Syndrome and they thought I was Insulting them (though that was years ago and at the time people were new to Google.....I remember the days you had to yahoo your name....since there was not Google around...Although I a m not sure I would like it if somone said they Binged my name would be any improvement....

Edit - Fun Fact about Jim Carrey....he has Turrets Syndrome.....and I am not joking......also Owen Wilson has Asperger Syndrome too

I know that UD has a decent-sized Aspie population, and it's so nice to know that there's others like you, that you're not alone in the world. Maybe it's good that we're 1 in 150 and not too much rarer.
And yes, my mother lives by that poem, since my 5-year-old brother is an Aspie, as well.
