Harry Potter--What We Love, What We Hate, and Anything Else!

I'm lovin the two new trailers!

*Looks like were getting some really great preformances from Fiennes, Staunton, Carter, Rickman, and Gambon
*Fortunatley, Ubridge is being played perfectly! I'm so glad they didn't make her just evil, because that's not her character
*The kids look like they're all going to be great!
*The effects look spectacular!
*The whole story line of the book looks like its being adapted very well!

I'm sooooo excited for this!

- Another comment on the dementor. There is one towards the end for a split second, it looks like the one from POA.
- The music...great! I hope the new composer uses the themes laid out in movies 1-3 by John. Patrick went in and ruined everything.

What I hate:

Every little teeny-goth out there has to declare him or herself a Slytherin. How stereotypical. I say this as a "preppy" Slytherin who just happens to like darker colors. Some goths fit into the Slytherin house, but there are a great many who fit into other houses. "Ooooh, it's got evil and snakes in it! That must be for me!" How about actually analyzing yourselves and the four houses, kids? Wait. That would require thinking on their parts.

Wow, it's so great having someone else who thinks this. I remember when the fourth film came out and like it was receiving so many great critical reviews, and the whole time I was just thinking "Did I see the same movie?". You pretty much summed it all up there, which are also my concerns for "Order of the Phoenix".

A new WB Harry Potter website has been put online! It's called JoinDumbledoresArmy.com and features many OOTP-related fun (though, oddly enough, the music in the background is from POA).

Everyone should look at the desktop wallpapers they have to offer. I love the two orange/red pictures. The propaganda style is awesome! I also really like the DA logo. I hope Hot Topic puts that on a shirt!!

There's one problem... the trailer isn't scored by Nicholas Hooper. It's a bunch of generic trailer music (some of it is a rearranged version of Hedwig's Theme) with "Hedwig's Theme" from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone tacked in at the end. And since the Harry Potter films are very popular worldwide, it's practically mandatory that Hooper at least use Hedwig's Theme (but hopefully more themes than just that).

Speaking of the score for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the guy who runs Soundtrack.Net, Dan Goldwasser, has said Hooper has recently finished recording the score for the film and that this week they're assembling it and mixing it. Goldwasser hopes to have footage (or a photo essay) from the scoring sessions up next week or so. And if we're extra lucky, maybe he got a podcast interview too.

BTW, Amazon has the original soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix up for preorder. It'll feature the original score by Nicholas Hooper, and it will be released on July 10, 2007 by Warner Sunset/Warner Bros. Records.

Well it is really the weakest cinematically. The plot suffered many setbacks, and the characterization was poor at best. The dialogue is shabby and cheesy at best. Yes, set production is probably the best thing going for the movie, but not much else is. The costume design and cinematography both drastically lowered the quality of the film. The lack of the emotion in acting made the film bland and poor.

WHAT? Roger Pratt has previously shot Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in addition to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and I think both look sumptuous in terms of lighting scheme and fitting the mood. Michael Seresin and Slawomir Idziak's work on POA and OOTP does much more polished and easy on the eyes, in terms of blue filter usage. And Jany Temime has designed the costumes for all the films since POA, she's done a terrific job so far -- I thought she did a great job on the GOF costumes.

Oh, and some big movie-related Harry Potter news: David Yates has announced that he will return to direct Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, in an interview with SciFi. Warner Brothers has neither confirmed nor denied anything, but most likely it's a yes and final negotiations haven't been set in stone.

I do hope Warner Brothers and David Heyman really liked how Yates pulled off OOTP and want him to return for HBP, and hopefully not just because he's cheap.

Okay, I'll take your word for it. I used to trust my own knowledge of Harry Potter more than anyone else, but now I trust others' knowledge. I haven't read any of the books since Half-Blood Prince came out.

Is anyone bummed there won't be any Quidditch? I know it's pointless, but it's what makes the Harry Potter books so much more unique than other fantasies, it contains a sport.

Yates announces he'll direct HBP movie

Order of the Phoenix Director David Yates announced today that he'll come back to helm the sixth movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. "I am doing 'Half-Blood Prince,' and I'm doing it because I love the [Potter] world, I love the characters," he said. "I think I have more business with this world and these characters."

He also said: "I've made a kind of tonal shift with the fifth film, which I want to continue and develop into the sixth film. And I can see the fifth story evolving into the sixth story in a really interesting way. So I'm on a journey with this material and this world, and I'm keen to complete it."

This marks the first time since Chris Columbus that a Harry Potter director has signed on for two consecutive films in the series.


That's pretty good news. Newell butchered Goblet of Fire. Let's see what Yates can do, although Cuaron is my number one choice because he did a swell job in Prisoner of Azkaban. I wonder who'll direct Deathly Hallows... Steven Spielberg?

The interesting thing here is that Kreacher will appear on the movie,what makes him an important part on the 7th book, also Hagrid's brother...or half-brother

by the way, on the page 755 of the OOTP book it says clearly "...An arrow flew so close to her (Umridge) head..." so it implies they shoul had had arrows, and remember that they defend themselvses from Grwap using arrows

Film Music Weekly has an interview and scoring session photos with composer Nicholas Hooper about his score for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. The article mentions that Hooper first uses "Hedwig's Theme" in the movie's opening, and subsequently at particular dramatic moments in the film. So rest assured, Hooper will use John Williams's theme, although I wish he'd use that lovely "Window to the Past" theme from POA too, because that can easily represent Sirius' relationship with Harry.

The score was recorded in March and April 2007 at Abbey Road Studios and performed by the London Chamber Orchestra (both the orchestra and choir were conducted by Alastair King). Hooper also mentions that he came up with two themes: one for Umbridge and one for Harry's gradual possession by Voldemort, in addition to the main score.

that sure is a lot of new scenes and sorry for not posting for two weeks. my internet went down so we had to wait until we got a new one and then it still wouldn't work and the problem with the new one was that the modem we received was broken and we just got it back up.

The background music in both revamped OOTP sites are portions of Nicholas Hooper's original score for the film. It's Hooper's arrangement of "Hedwig's Theme", plus the Umbridge and the Possession themes if I'm not mistaken. Sounds great and much better than Doyle's score for GOF, perhaps on the level of John Williams's scores for the first three movies.
