Thanks for posting. I'm glad they've included a quote specific to "A Place Called Slaughter Race". It means they're at least putting some effort to promote it for Best Original Song.D82 wrote:New FYC ad (source)

Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
Speaking of: The melody to Slaughter Race is from a deleted song in Enchanted! Plus, a great picture of Alan, Tom, Phil, and Sarah watching the scene!
https://ew.com/movies/2018/12/14/alan-m ... CB4744363CAnd as recently as 2018, the creative team behind Ralph Breaks the Internet made a similar plea, asking Menken to send up his signature princess “I want” ballads for a surprise showstopper from Sarah Silverman’s Vanellope when she discovers her true calling in a crime-infested street-racing video game.
To the point of Ralph Breaks the Internet, for instance, music director Tom MacDougall and co-director Phil Johnston even began writing to a cut piece of music from Enchanted that Menken would ultimately rework into the resulting “A Place Called Slaughter Race.”

Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
No, he said in a previous interview he didn't allow them to re-use the melody because he might still use that song someday (perhaps for a stage adaptation of Enchanted?) and wrote something new that was similar. The deleted Enchanted song must have been the opening number he and Glenn Slater wrote together before Stephen Schwartz came on board.disneyprincess11 wrote:Speaking of: The melody to Slaughter Race is from a deleted song in Enchanted!
I hope so too. He expressed that desire again in a new interview.D82 wrote:Both the Lopezes and Lin-Manuel Miranda have received new projects at WDAS after the success of their work, but not Alan. I hope they finally give him the opportunity he wants (and deserves).

Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
It would be interesting to see Silverman perform the song at the Oscars. I'm assuming she'd sing it in her regular voice and not her Vanellope voice.
Source: https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/c ... -characterAnother reason Silverman loved working on Ralph Breaks the Internet was the opportunity to sing a tune composed by Alan Menken. One of Silverman's favourite musicals is Little Shop of Horrors, which Menken wrote with Howard Ashman. The tune Menken wrote for Ralph Breaks the Internet is part of the storyline where Vanellope is told she's not entirely a Disney princess until she has her own song where she croons about what she wants in life.
As for what her reaction would be if the song got nominated for an Oscar for Best Song and she had to perform A Place Called Slaughter Race, Silverman laughs and says she's ready. In fact, when she was originally recording the number, Silverman kept talking about when she performs at the Oscars which notes will have to be sweetened because she would not be able to hit the high notes.

Yes. I was glad to see that quote in the ad too.Sotiris wrote:I'm glad they've included a quote specific to "A Place Called Slaughter Race". It means they're at least putting some effort to promote it for Best Original Song.
So the deleted song the directors wanted to use was from Enchanted! Maybe Alan can use it in the sequel (if it ever gets made). Or in a stage adaptation of Enchanted, as Sotiris said.disneyprincess11 wrote:https://ew.com/movies/2018/12/14/alan-m ... Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
I'm glad this has been confirmed. Menken mentioned that he still planned to use the song which suggests that if it isn't going to be used in the sequel, then he wants it for the rumored stage adaptation. This also explains why A Place Called Slaughter Race has so many musical cues from True Love's Kiss since Menken said he would create a new song that sounded like the deleted one that the filmmakers wanted. So glad that Enchanted wasn't thrown under the bus for this wretched film.D82 wrote: So the deleted song the directors wanted to use was from Enchanted! When will this film be declared a box office disappointment?

Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
How is it a success if it has only grossed 265 m so far when previous Disney films did much better than that. Mary Poppins Returns is released soon and it's going to kill Ralph Breaks the Internet. I will be surprised if it's going to reach 350 m total.Sotiris wrote:Why would it be labeled a disappointment when it was a success?farerb wrote:When will this film be declared a box office disappointment?

Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
Well, it had a strong opening (bigger than that of the original) which matters a lot since studios get a bigger cut of the profits than in subsequent weeks, it was #1 at the U.S. box office for three weeks in a row, and has yet to open in many overseas territories. So far, it's seen as a success. If and when it finishes its theatrical run worldwide and comes up short then it'll probably be considered a disappointment.
Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
Disney is doing their usual thing of slowly rolling out an animated movie overseas, so Ralph isn't quite finished its run yet. There are still some major markets it hasn't opened yet. Japan gets it next week (and we all know how popular Disney animated films are in Japan) and then Australia on Christmas. Arrives in Italy, Brazil, Argentina, Germany and much of Eastern Europe in January. Norway, Sweden, Denmark and France are the last countries to see Ralph in February.
I will say I predicted Ralph would outgross The Grinch domestically, but Grinch is far ahead and hasn't slowed down at all. And looking at the daily numbers, Grinch was even the #1 movie from December 10-13, a good month after its release. I guess the seasonal theme of the film has been helping its staying power, plus the enduring power of Seuss's original story.

Some interesting insight. At the moment, The Grinch is set to be the second-biggest non-superhero movie in North America, after the Jurassic World sequel.
Meanwhile, WIR2 seems likely to end up selling as many tickets as the original film did. So much for the power of the princesses.

This does mean that all the free press over the Disney Princess sequence didn’t really move the needle and that a Disney Animation sequel performed as well over Thanksgiving as a Disney animated (or Pixar) original.

Fingers crossed! The competition will be tough

Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
I didn't think the song would make the cut! I'm really glad for Alan Menken.
I was complaining the other day because they weren't going to reveal the complete list of submitted songs and scores this year, but it's also interesting to know which titles get shortlisted. Normally, we don't get to know that info for these categories.

^Yeah, I don't think it has many chances of being nominated, but if it isn't, I'm glad at least it was in the Academy's top 15 songs.

Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
I have to say that I was quite disappointed with this movie. I liked the original, but this one felt like a hollow, soulless imitation doubling as a commercial. The princess cameo scene was unnecessary IMO, and the toxic friendship message felt shoehorned from the start. I really didn't enjoy any second of it at all. The internet world looked visually stunning, but otherwise the film didn't work IMO.
Re: Ralph Breaks the Internet
According to BoxOffice Mojo, the sequel is trialing the original when comparing the 2 features first 5 weeks. Wreck It Ralph had grossed $159+million, while Ralph breaks the Internet has grossed $157+million in it's first 5 weeks. And that's not even adjusting for Inflation! Can you imagine a Pixar sequel doing something like this? Even Cars 2 & Monsters University did better then this
