^Well, here in Spain we usually get different translations to scripts or lyrics than Latin America, but yes, it's curious they decided to keep "Slaughter Race" here. By the way, I didn't know her before but it seems the performer is a famous Spanish YouTuber.

I loved it..... until the Oh My Disney scene began, felt a bit jarring...

The Disney Princesses in this scene, are like the classic 80's turtles in Ninja Turtles Forever. While that show was a bit more light hearted, it had serious character developments, plus from a differ era.

However, in Turtles Forever, they come off as a parody, caricatures of themselves moreso than the Ninja Turtles I grew up watching.

Ariel singing "I once had a dream that I might wear a shirt" to the tune of "Part of Your World" left a bad taste in my mouth. Howard Ashman wouldn't have approved of this. During the making of the Little Shop of Horrors movie, he was asked to change the song from "Suddenly, Seymour" to "Suddenly, someone" to make it more commercial and mainstream. He adamantly refused. He had too much integrity and wouldn't have been kind to such a commercialization and bastardization of "Part of Your World".

I agree absolutely with everything Sotiris says. When Man of Steel or the Emoji Movie use pop culture references or product placement, the manchild fans take out the pitchforks and torches decrying how it's an abomination and "insult to animation", whatever the fuck that means. Soulless, cash-in, blah blah blah. Yet when Disney does it, suddenly it's all subversive, clever, blah blah blah?

And good movies like Persepolis or Wolf Children are ignored by these animation enthusiasts like Animat or Cellspex in favor of this and the shitty Minions/Sony films. The animation fandom on the Internet is a fucking joke.

But they didn't change the song to have another name, they just changed some lyrics for a joke. I know you could think if they made a joke out of a meaningful song, that's bad, buy they didn't make fun of the song, they just did some alternate lyrics for an innocent joke. It fits even. Ariel would dream of wearing human clothing.

Anyway, the princess scene was fine. It wasn't really that funny to me other than Vanellope wondering what's wrong with the princesses and the Merida joke but I thought it was fine and nice seeing the princesses together. It's not bad. It's not even the real princesses, it's their avatars, which couldn't even exist because their real selves all lived long ago in far away lands.

It was fun seeing their avatars together! It helps with a plot point for Vanellope, really. And there is another princess scene later on; I know not everyone liked it, but I did.

Except Ariel has worn human clothes before. In fact, she was wearing human clothes when Vanellope came into the scene.

Funny how this is the one part of the movie's promotion that doesn't feature the princesses. I guess Disney realized that the tacked-on sequence doesn't lend itself well to critical appreciation.

Yes, JeanGreyForever, it's true it doesn't make so much sense to dream of wearing human clothes when you're already wearing them, just from the past. I think the lyrics would have worked better that she now has a dream to wear a shirt.

I've not yet seen it, heading to the cinema tomorrow.

I'm a die hard Princess lover, and die hard Classic Disney fan. I just think the scenes and clips that they have shown are funny regarding the Princesses

I don't feel as offended as some people on the board; I get the irritation at what Disney are doing, but I think the intent is for it to just be a bit of fun. I don't see it as legacy damaging at all. The drivel that John C Reily & co are coming out with is stupid, but I'm viewing that as separate from the scene itself. I felt nothing but absolute unadulterated joy at seeing Ariel live and animated in all these clips. And the scene "I want one too you guys !!" made me laugh out loud ! Yes, that is exactly how Ariel would behave in that situation it feels.

A huge part of it for me is the fact that Jodi & co all came back to do it and loved it, and the scene. I know Jodi is very much still a huge part of Disney and is regularly working there, but ALL of them to be there is massive. They weren't shy in coming forward as well; Jennifer Hale was vocal about changing lines that Cinderella absolutely wouldn't say, and Anika with regards to Tiana's appearance. If the ladies themselves have embraced it for the fun that it is, I am inclined to do the same

It's basically doing Moana numbers domestic. I'd think Disney was expecting more from a $175 million sequel. Meanwhile Grinch has passed over $200 million domestic. I heard the sequel will have to do atleast $215 million just to match the original's $189 adjusted for inflation. To early to see if it can break-out overseas.
