Re: Question regarding "doubtful" use of art in Frozen merch

So there was this issue regarding this image of Frozen:

Talking about the crossed eyes and saying this was part of the early designs.

Still, here we have these official Disney store merchandise using that same art:

http://www.disneystore.com/anna-and-els ... 7/1000349/

http://www.disneystore.com/anna-and-els ... 9/1000327/

http://www.disneystore.com/anna-and-els ... 9/1000306/

http://www.disneystore.com/frozen-tin-a ... 9/1000252/

My question is, why would Disney green lit the use of this art for the merchandise?
Disney Store/Disney merchandise quality control seems iffy in many instances. Remember when DS released the promo images for the Charlotte PATF doll, which clearly had crossed eyes? And yet they did not fix the error for years! Shoot, the last time I went to the Disney Store, almost all of the new princess dolls were completely disheveled in their boxes--it looked like they had been dumped or bumped or something in the process of getting to the store. Some had hair covering their faces, were pushed up against the side of the box, etc etc.

My review.. I was actually surprised at how critical I was.. Especially since I've been so obsessed with this movie for the past 2 months. Even lost a few friends because of my obsession.. But!! I finally watched and I loved it.

I'm worried I won't like it as much because I know so much and have been obsessing over it for months. Expectations can really alter your views of something.

At least I've never expected Elsa to be a main focus, which a lot seem to be disappointed by. Anna always seemed like the "main" sister even from the beginning. We saw concept art of her LONG before Elsa, and remember how horrified everyone was by Elsa's design when it finally came?

I knew pretty much everything about the movie and I had the songs memorized.

And expectations only did one thing for me.. It covered the things I didn't like about the movie. I was not impatient and I did enjoy the movie.

Just a little side note.. is not part of the reply..

I don't know why... When people say that Tangled is better than Frozen and that it ranks among the best 4.. I was close my laptop and look out the window... I've always accepted that people do love tangled.. but I don't know why It's affecting me negatively now..

Especially when they say that the romance between Anna and Kristoff isn't as fleshed out as Rapunzel and Eugene..

Glad you liked it. I didn't want to bring it up before but I was honestly surprised how hyped you were for this film, given your feelings about Tangled.

Saw the 7:30 (non 3D) showing last night. The 3D shows were selling out but the non 3D show I caught was busy but not filled to capacity. My wife was at the Disney store earlier this week and when they asked her if she was going to see Frozen on Wednesday and she said, "No, we're seeing it on Tuesday" they were all shocked. They had no idea that there were early showings.

So perhaps the empty theaters last night were simply due to a lack of awareness of the early showings?

As for the movie itself, I really enjoyed it. I think I enjoyed Tangled a bit more (my wife had the opposite conclusion) though I agree that the music was infinitely better than Tangled's music.

See this is the problem with today's media culture. How anyone can expect to know every detail about a movie, obsessing over it, listening to music, looking at leaks, (losing friends???)... And still expect to enjoy the film itself as much as you expect... It just isn't gonna happen. We've been talking about it for months - many people have been setting themselves up for disappointment.

And RyGuy, I think you're probably right about the early showings. I just don't think most people realize that a Disney animated movie has a fan base that is SO excited they'll go to a midnight (or 10:00 or whatever) premiere. Most would only think of that for big "event" movies like Marvel, Hobbit, etc.

I stopped watching when she suggested that Linda Woolverton should have stayed at WDAS. Woolverton is a hack.

What a joke. Also, whoever that is, she should stop screaming. And write better reviews.

I knew she was going to hate it.. She's had it for this movie since the trailers came out and honestly, her opinions didn't surprise me. Well.. one of them did.. She thinks that Anna and Elsa are worse than Ariel and Snow white.. Yeah... that's pretty tough to do.

But her saying that the writer of Alice in Wonderland is better than Jennifer Lee? I don't think so! Just because she wrote one good movie doesn't mean that she's a good writer. Alice in Wonderland had a terrible cliche filled story and way way too many characters and subplots. Jennifer Lee on the other did well with both Wreck it Ralph and Frozen.

Another issue that I hated about this non-spoiler review is that she constantly mentions the hybrid animation that was used in paperman. Do you know how long it takes to make a movie like that? Do you think that Disney doesn't know that they should make a movie like that? Do you think that they developed this technology before working on Frozen? she is so fixated on hating this movie, that she can't see beyond the blindness of her hate!

What pisses me off is that people are still hating on Disney for not making this a 2D animation. I just want to ask them this question.. If you were running Disney right now, and 2D animation is sucking you dry, while GC animation is doing incredibly better, what would you do? The times are evolving, and so should they! I made my piece with 2D animation when tangled came out, because I knew that after then, we wouldn't see another.

As for the 90's supremacist... get you heads out of your asses and give this movie a chance.

Honestly, the only reviewer that I really want to hear his opinion is Doug Walker/Nostalgia Critic. I am very interested in hearing what he thought of this movie, and I hope that he does review it. I can take his opinions seriously because he is professional when it comes to movies, and tries to overlook some of the bad things and focus on the good stuff.

Well.. When tangled came out, I wasn't excited. I didn't know anything about it.. because...

My disney obsession was kind of weird... It started when I was kid, but when i turned 10-11, I completely forgot about Disney.. up until my high school years, when we introduced my little brother to Disney and I had seen Aladdin for the first time. I loved it, and that brought back the spark. Soon to be forgotten, again. Until I listened to Just Around The River Bend 3 years ago. That song brought back the spark and it's been on since then. I've always watched Lion King though..

Anyways.. When tangled came out, I wasn't going to see it until my friend told me that I HAD to go see it. And I saw it and I loved it, I had the songs memorized. Until I saw it again when it came out.. Then all the flaws came out.

But when Frozen was announced, I wasn't really that obsessed with it.. Until the leaked info in march and that's when I got excited and joined DVDizzy. Why did I get excited?

-Jennifer Lee was writing it.
-Chris Buck was directing it (LOVED tarzan)
-Idina Menzel
-Snow

I'm always excited for a Disney movie, until it comes out. That's when it either lives up to my expectations, or it's just bad.

Brave, my all time favorite movie, is a different thing though.. I was excited about the movie at all! I knew that I was going to see it since it's pixar, but that's it. Until I saw the Mother's Day TV spot a month before it's released. That's when I got excited for it. My entire life revolves around movies and school.

What one comment said about the Beyond the trailer girl:
I can't believe you're the same person who loved 2012, Alice in Wonderland, John Carter, Pain & Gain, The Great Gatsby, & The Mortal Instruments, but hated Vertigo, North By Northwest, Avatar, Toy Story 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, Gravity, and now Frozen!
Ok.. yeah.. I am not even going to bother with her anymore..

Just got back home from seeing Frozen and I have no words to what I have just seen... Not only is this the best animated film this year, but this is my second favorite Disney film of the new era (1967-present), beating out Hunchback, and it's the strongest film thus far from the films of 2009-present.

WARNING! THOUGHTS/SPOILERS ARE A COMIN!

The beginning hymn and song (Frozen Heart) is really well done and the entire events of Elsa and Anna when they were kids are paced quite well. Do You Want to Build a Snowman is very charming but quite teary eyed.

I'll say it again.. For the First Time in Forever is how you do an "I Want" song darn it. :P

Hans, as a twist villian was freaking perfect especially his line: "Oh Anna, if only someone loved you." Man he was about to decapitate Elsa! He was charming but very dangerous and in way my second favorite male Disney villian only behind Frollo.

All the songs were great, memorable and has greatly well done lyrics by the wonderful Kristen Anderson-Lopez, but as much as I loved Fixer Upper's music and lyrics, it does feel just a little out of place in the movie but the suprise message that it's Elsa that they were talking about subtley.

The climax and it's music in that scene where Hans confronts Elsa, was the BEST DISNEY CLIMAX SINCE THE LITTLE MERMAID!!! :D :D :D :D

The art direction by Mike Giaimo and the assistance of the talented Lisa Keene is the most gorgeous looking Disney movie in DECADES! The mountains, the snow/ice, the kingdom of Arendelle, everything!

So yeah they maybe scattered thoughts as I have just seen it but darn it! It was amazing!

Great characters, wonderfully done story, amazing songs, great artistry, makes this a 9.5-10 film for me. :D

Agreed. Plus judging from what he said about Prince of Egypt on his top 11 most overlooked films, he does seem to be a Wicked fan so it'd be interesting to see his thoughts on Idina Menzel's performance.

And speaking of reviewers who decide to hate on a movie for no good reason at all, I wonder what Confused Matthew would think of it. Especially seeing as how Disney has marketed this as the best "since Lion King." You know, that one movie Matthew hates and will absolutely hammer that fact to death into our heads even comparing Lock, Shock and Barrel to Simba. :P
