Snow White (Live-Action)
Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
I don't understand how she's getting hate when she's not the one that wrote the film or directed it. All she did was act in it. Why does the success or failure of the film rest on her shoulders?
Anyway, the love interest was always there. The miners were always there. The bandits were always there. Everything was always there. Everything you love about the basics of the story is all there. The love story just wasn't the main focus of the film, but it was always there. RZ's comments were just taken out of context. I agree she should've chosen her words better, but she spoke the way Gen-Z kids speak, so it comes off brash to other folks.

I feel like she is saying there is a different approach to the love story in that it won't be a movie you'd call "a love story".PatchofBlue wrote: โWed Oct 02, 2024 11:32 amRachel: We have a different approach to what I'm sure a lot of people assume is a love story[...]
I feel like she is saying the love story is just not the focus. She finds love, but it's not what the movie is all about. And the love is so out of focus it could even be edited out, which is weird but this whole film is weird.Rachel:[...]but it's really not about the love story at all, which is really really wonderful, and whether or not she finds love along the way is anybody's guess until 2024], all of Andrew's scenes could get cut[...]
You bet it's not racist. They say Black is beautiful. You can say White or any race is beautiful, too.PatchofBlue wrote: โWed Oct 02, 2024 11:32 amNot that I think the fairy-tale as writ is inherently racist, it just felt like a potential for controversy that could have been sidestepped, which they did.
Anyway, I trust tsom is right.

I have never seen an actress trying so hard to sabotage her own movie. Releasing an article with a headline containing "Toxic Disney Fans" will not make people to flock to your movie.

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
In fairness to Zegler, that headline came from the editor of the article. I searched the article and could not find Zegler quoted as calling Disney fans toxic. Maybe I missed itโ to be honest, Iโm not interested in reading the whole piece. But I think the headline was a very deliberate word choice on the part of Variety because they know thereโs blood in the water for this movie and itโs instant clickbait.
Skimming the article, I get the sense that the purpose of the interview was actually to promote her new production of Romeo and Juliet, but they asked her questions about Snow White and she bit. Which isnโt wise because everything about this Snow White movie gets, IMO, twisted into something inflammatory (and also, yknow the team for R&J who probably set up this interview would probably, yknow, like her to talk about that production lol). I have seen other actors use an aide or some kind or an intermediary to shut down interviewers with off-topic questions (Julie Andrews in recent years, for example, uses her daughter for that). If Rachel doesnโt have that, she needs it and if she does have that, they need to get better at their job or Rachel needs to listen to them if she isnโt.
I feel much the same as most of the other postersโ Zeglerโs sort of annoying. But Iโm more annoyed by all the publications that are trying to create more controversy. They just want the ad revenue that comes from our clicks.
Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
So they went even further insulting the original tale with changing the origin of the name with the surviving winter bullshit. Just how far can you go with the insult? And where are the cultural respect folks,or it's only fine insulting, erasing, replacing and disrespecting european tales?
Literally removing one of the most iconic moments of the tale and replacing it with some woke bullshit.
I can only imagine the riots if someone took an african or asian tale about a girl named something like Ebony for her black hair as her mother wished in the first sentence of the tale, replacing her with a light haired girl and saying she was named Ebony because of the bracelet her parents left her or something. Yet acting like here everything is normal.
Besides those lines and her mother's love was important in the tale, as she loved her daughter and wanted everything to be good for her, including beauty, in the contrast of the jealous queen who despised Snow White for her beauty - which reflects different mother figures in real life. Now what even is that?

I used to have sympathy for her, but not anymore. Her attitude is off putting. She has been more lucky and privileged than most people out there and she constantly acts as if she's better than everyone and as if she deserves more. Completely entitled. It's really hard for me to see her as the characters she's supposed to play (especially Snow White) because I'm reminded of her attitude. I still plan to watch Snow White, but I don't think I'll watch anything she stars in after that.UmbrellaFish wrote: โThu Oct 03, 2024 1:38 am I feel much the same as most of the other postersโ Zeglerโs sort of annoying. Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
Duster, I think there is a version of events where that's the case, but there's still a lot that smells fishy.
Her Empire interview, where she said she was excited about how this version of Snow White wasn't about "Someday My Prince Will Come," was like two and a half years ago, and she was singing the same tune for a loooong time. I'm not just basing my read off of like a single awkward phrasing. This was a recurring theme, and something that Disney fans have been raging against all throughout.
And yet, it's only after like the fourteenth round of reshoots that we're getting "confirmation" that "Yes, there is a love story. There was always a love story. And there is no war in Ba Sing Se." I don't get what the motivation would have been for Disney to hold out THIS LONG if the product they were making was always what Disney fans were asking for.
I'll own up to the circumstantial evidence here, but the math just isn't coming out right for me. I want to see the man behind the curtain.
Anyways, I didn't think it was so uncommon for a specific themed interview to also sneak preview future works by the artist in question. I remember, just off the top of my head, when Lin was being interviewed for Encanto, he was also answering a lot of questions for The Little Mermaid.
My read of Rachel Zegler as an artist/person is that she's neither exceptionally humble nor exceptionally narcissistic. I'm not particularly annoyed by her outside of the specific Disney comments, which I am quickly developing immunity to. I think people are allowed to like what they do. She gave a very moving performance of "Who I'd Be" from Shrek: The Musical during last year's Miscast concert. I can't find the full video of it anymore, but she opened with a long spiel about feeling lucky for having gotten to work with such amazing people and all that. I'm sure she's got a healthy head on her, it just might look different for than it might for other celebrities.

Assuming this move is terribly written, I can already imagine Rotten Tomatoes censoring the negative reviews and the journalist calling the haters 'racist' and 'sexist' for criticizing the movie.

PatchofBlue, it sounds to me it could have been that the love story, which didn't and still doesn't have "Someday My Prince Will Come", was always in, but not the focus, and when people kept complaining, they had to come out and say the love story was always in instead of just teasing it.
Only all the reshoots make me wonder if that is wrong. Tsom, do you know what all the reshoots were for?

I support Rachel Zegler in everything except when she talks about hispanic things, you all need to see the interviews she made during the West Side Story promo tour, her and Ariana Debose (who is also 0 connected to her hispanic ancestry) said so many stupid things that Rita Moreno was tired in the promo tour of them
Rachel (same as Ariana) are both great actresses and singers, but they do horrible interviews, they need media training

The new york diversity tying is so god damn stupid, first of all she said Europe as a whole (not a very small town with no diversity) but like she filmed in the UK one of the most diverse countries in the planet, when I was there I could talk to hispanic people in every cornerFarerb wrote: โWed Oct 02, 2024 10:04 am Rachel Zegler on Reinventing Snow White and Juliet and Facing Off Against Toxic Disney Fans: โIโve Watched Women Get Torn Down My Whole Lifeโ

I'm assuming she also meant the promo tours she did in europe (for Shazam 2 she went to a lot of European countries)
Also why is she talking about people speaking Spanish to her when she has admitted she doesn't speak Spanish and barely understands it
I want to defend Rachel Zegler but she keeps making it so difficult

Source: https://thatparkplace.com/report-before ... r-in-mind/According to Latino Slant (a YouTube channel dedicated to Latino issues and stories in entertainment), the runner-up for the role of Snow White was Renata Vaca, another young Latina actress. Paulie went on to say that not only were the two leading candidates for Snow White women of Latin American heritage, but the third runner-up for the role was an unnamed woman of African descent.

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
Source: https://thatparkplace.com/exclusive-war ... s-a-shame/Regarding The Walt Disney Company and its upcoming Rachel Zegler Snow White live action remake, Warwick Davis confirmed he had not been contacted by Disney regarding the movie at any time. When asked why he thought Disney didnโt reach out to him at any point, he replied, โIt seems theyโre moving in a different direction.โ
Later, during an ICCC question and answer panel in Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Davis was asked again about the current situation with dwarf actors being excluded from roles by a Hollywood system that seems to favor CGI or digitally-altered, taller actors. He stated, โItโs interesting. Recently youโre seeing lots of, um, sort of short, fictionally, characters being played by normal-sized actors shrunk digitally. I mean, at first I sort of excused it thinking thereโs not really the pool of talent to draw from, like with Lord of Rings for example. So I sort of excused that for happening. But, umโฆ recently theyโre doing it more and more. I think it looks scary almost โ itโs not a good look.โ
Mr. Davis continued, โIt is a shame because thereโs a lot of really talented short actors in the world. But theyโre not getting a chance to do what they do. Some of them have trained for years to do this and theyโre just not getting a look in. You know, it would be wrong to cast someone as a disabled person in a wheelchair with an able-body I think, but theyโre doing it all the time with short people. Iโm not actively campaigning on this but it would be nice if my voice was heard on these issues.โ
Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
I'm a bit late to the discussion about Ms. Zegler's interview, so sorry about that. I didn't read the whole interview, just parts of it, but the intro was really ridiculous, with the author calling the audience "toxic Disney fans"
Ms. Zegler still doesn't want to take accountability for what she said, she still blames others for her actions. She can't get out of this by just saying it was all a joke, or that what she said was taken the wrong way. She knew what she was saying, so why doesn't she just admit it and just move on?

Re: Snow White (Live-Action)
The whole dwarf thing was just one more mess that the world didn't need.
We could potentially get mad at Dinklage for misrepresenting the conversation, but the thing is ... I don't think Dinklage really meant to start a movement or whatever. (Weren't his original comments just throwaway lines from like a podcast on a completely unrelated topic????) I think his observations were somewhat flippant, and I don't know how he feels about the presence of dwarves in some other fantasy media, Lord of the Rings being the one I come back to the most, but I think that everyone--including Disney--was treating it like some all-important treatise, and I don't think it was terribly fair of Disney to inadvertently have him set off a culture war.
Mind you, the life cycle of the dwarves in the remake have been somewhat unclear, and I'm certain there's been some misreporting along the way about whether the dwarves were being cut from the film, but even if we decide that they were always going to be there and it was all just hysteria, surely it was within Disney's power to be clear on this much earlier on.
