I do think of all of the Mickey Mouse cartoons, Mickey's Christmas Carol was the most deserving. Not only is that my favourite Christmas Carol adaptation, but it personally towered over the competition that year, in my opinion.

As much as I love Runaway Brain, I think A Close Shave was a deserving winner, but I'm also a big Wallace & Gromit fan.

I haven't seen any of the Wallace & Gromit shorts in a long time. But this would have been only the 2nd Oscar for Mickey Mouse in 54 years. W&C already won an animated short Oscar 2 years earlier for The Wrong Trousers.

Get a Horse could make a impact, but I doubt it because the past few times I've gone to see Frozen, all the kids and parents look really confused and lost. It could be different in American audiences though.

Randy Haycock: Moana will be CG. The only 2D will be the exploratory test I and a few other 2D animators are doing.

The tests were (and are) done to explore characters and animation styles before there are CG models and rigs to animate. It takes months to design, model and rig a CG character, but we can just draw it. So they use us to test the character and to (hopefully) inspire the CG animators while they work on the rigs. Often an animator will use the tests to show the rigger what they want the character to be able to do, how they want the character to be able to move. Some things that are simple to do in drawn animation are super difficult in CG. But if we can show them what we want in a hand drawn test, they can work on making it work in CG.

Randy Haycock: He is doing some 2D tests for Moana. That’s all I can say.

Look, if anything, it's helping the CG films get better and better when it comes to fluid, solid animation on the characters; look at Frozen for example. Besides I don't know where your getting the whole "they should learn to respect the medium" thing, using it to help their films is giving a good amount of respect.

Wade, that's what I mean. For Disney still using 2-D hand-drawn animation to use has a reference or, "rigs" for their CG films is still respectful.

I hope so. Of course, I heard untitled Teenage Space Race Movie that suppose to come in 2018 was cancelled due to story problems. I wonder if hand drawn animation movie might have a chance.

Im not expecting any full length 2d film in the forseeable future. At most maybe a short 2d dream/song sequence or opening/closing credits for a cgi film.

I do agree that the 2d referencing is one of the things that has greatly improved their cgi compared to other studios. I was blown away by King Candy's animation in WIR, very fluid & expressive!

Whenever I see the video of Eric Goldberg's work for King Candy in WIR, I can't help but to think that it is amazing how obviously different they are when it comes to the tools, but the astetic of Candy's animation/character remains.

Well, they can't use CGI all the time. I mean, come on! If Disney has hand drawn all along, they should of make an official statement so this whole hand drawn controversy will calm down. I don't think John Lasseter, Bob Iger, or any other people in the studio are being honest to themselves about hand drawn. Estefan, I give you effort for being optimistic, but some of hand drawn fans like me are still confused and can't really tell if they do have hand drawn or not. And what about that 2D hand drawn class what it's called. Did they hire any new 2D hand drawn animators?
