We have a right to be mad. This is a wonderfully spectacular film and Disney really is treating it as a second-rate cheapquel. It's actually really embarrasing. One of, if not the, best Walt Disney films and they're treating it like garbage. Yes, the restoration is important and will look beautiful, but Disney has (in the recent past) produced wonderful sets of their films. As I've said a billion times in this thread, this was a wasted opportunity and Disney should be ashamed of putting out such a crap-tastic release. The only reason I might get this is because of the restoration (thank goodness I still have my Anthology set!)
I know I'm not adding anything to the topic at all, but I just had to say that I love your Artie gif. :)

Just so this isn't completely off topic, I'm glad that I held onto my Anthology set as well. Looking forward to the new restoration, but I have to agree that Disney really did drop the ball when it came to the extras.

Does anybody know if there is any site to download the Fantasia special features from the Anthology?

If you have the patience for the download time, there are a few torrents for it.

I can't say I like either the UK or US cover art. In my opinion they are just too bright and glossy. I would much have preferred a more minimalist approach perhaps with dark silhouettes of some of the characters against a painted background to express the artistic depth of the movie. These covers just tries to market it as a kids movie. I liked the simplicity of the UK Platinum Edition of Beauty and the Beast with its simple line drawings. I think Disney tends to produce cover art that really undermines some of the variation and darkness that are present in some of the movies (like Hunchback, one of my favourite Disney movies)

Is it the French and German editions that often have more even, painterly cover art? I think I remember seeing a beautyful cover of Snow White (or was it BAtB?). This is perhaps a bit off-topic now. In an attempt to get back on track, have any of you seen other Fantasia cover art or posters that focus more on the darkness and contrasts of the movie?

That was just me messing around a while back. But seriously, this is one of my favorite images representing Fantasia:

Image

I couldn't find a bigger version and it's hard to see here but I always liked Mickey's expression, sort of cynically looking at Chernabog over his shoulder.

I still think that the cover art should either remain as that of the Anthology style (the outline of Mickeys hat with the musical note), or one that completely resembles the title card;

Image

Disney wouldn't use either though because they want to encourage purchases with bright colours and lots of characters.

I would not describe that expression as cynical, but as "Oh, Cherny, you what are you up too, you think you'll win, I'm on to you, I won't let you win!"

I popped into my local Disney Store today to check up and see if there was any news regarding Fantasia, and the lady told me that it was now coming out on on the 6th December, and also, it will "definitely" be a Diamond Edition. Strange huh? :? :)

This is odd... this ad from the Beauty and the Beast Diamond Edition Blu-ray states that the Fantasia 2-Movie Collection has an October 26 release date... :S

This can only mean 1 of 2 things. When they printed this for Beauty and the Beast, Disney didn't have a set date yet. So this was printed a while ago, and will be in everyones Blu-Ray.

Or

For some Magic reason the date got pushed up.

I think Disney said to themselves, lets push the date back so we can spread our releases. From early Oct. to the end of Nov. we will have 3 major releases!! $$$$ $$$$$$ $$

I still hate that cover. It not only looks childish beyond belief, but the film titles font is so poor - it doesn't reflect any emotion of the film.

Also this isn't the first time a misreprsented release date was included in a flyer of a DVD, or a blu ray or VHS

Tarzan's re-release said 2 -disc when in reality it was one
same for Aristocats plus the date was off way way off
The Orginal comercial for when Aladdin and the King of theives said it was coming to video but it was 2 years later than what the commercial said on a video of I think Return of Jafar or even The Little Mermaid re-release on VHS.

Dumbo on Blu ray (USA got snubbed for some odd reason)

and of course there are the cases of advertised but never came to fruition

Destino Legacy collection on DVD

Gargoyles Season 2 volume 2

countless other Disney Animation fromt he 90s, such as the rest of Ducktales, Gummi Bears, Darkwing Duck, Boy Meets world season 4, etc

The most obvious thing to be mentioned would be 'Sunflower', of course :D. But something like Chernabog would be cool too.
It's odd, though. I really think that Fantasia should either have one iconic image, or all the characters together. There's no middle ground.

Quick question, on the Website, it says that it is going to be available for a VERY limited amount of time. How long do you think it will be available? Will it be out at the end of November and then shoved back into the vault at the end of Jan 2011?
