I missed the Oscars. What did they show of Cinderella in the little clips before they announced the winner?

In the opening montage of 2015 films, they showed the scene where Ella tells Kit at the ball that everyone is staring at them and he responds by saying that everyone is staring at her. Basically just like in the trailer/promos.Disney Duster wrote:Cinderella didn't win Best Costume Design.

In the costume design category they showed Cinderella's transformation, Lady Tremaine in the green and black outfit from her opening scene, as well as the stepsisters in their outfits from the opening scene.

Re: Cinderella (2015)
Oh, you're wonderful for telling me! Oh, I'm so sad I missed it! I was thinking (and hoping!) they would use the transformation scene, which I feel is perfect because that scene is all about the creation and importance of a costume! What I'm most happy with is that they showed a clip from the film in the beginning. Even if not in the big categories, Cinderella made it to the Oscars.
Here are a few cool things for lover's of the movie. One is this CGI breakdown mostly showing backgrounds and the mice and birds:

Then, a much more in-depth VFX breakdown, with some of how they did the transformation in the end!:

And finally, something they never showed well in the film: how they carried the glass slipper! It was in a box that unfolds into a pillow! I always thought it was a bad idea to just hold the slipper on a pillow like they've shown in many versions of Cinderella, even Walt Disney's! The box is a brilliant idea! Before I saw this movie I was going to put my own idea of using a box in my own Cinderella comic, and I still will, but their idea is more clever and cool!:

In addition to what was mentioned, they also showed the Fairy Godmother's costume in the scene when she waved her wand at Cinderella during the dress transformation. Moreover, the 2015 films montage also used the music that was utilized during the Cinderella trailers and promos. I think it's called Aeon.JeanGreyForever wrote:In the opening montage of 2015 films, they showed the scene where Ella tells Kit at the ball that everyone is staring at them and he responds by saying that everyone is staring at her. I'm disappointed Cinderella did not win, but it is an honor just to be nominated. Out of all the films that came out last year, it was one of five that had the best costume design.

Wow, I never knew about the box to carry the glass slipper. That definitely makes much more sense than a pillow.
That's so cool that you have a Cinderella comic. What's the plotline behind it?
Oh yes, I forgot that the Fairy Godmother was included as well. I was expecting to see Cinderella in her wedding dress but they didn't show that.tsom wrote:

Re: Cinderella (2015)
Thank you tsom and JeanGreyForever! I managed to find a Youtube video of the clips before the Costume Design announcing, and I realized it was briefer than I imagined, lol. But still, seeing my favorite story reaching the Oscars made me so happy.
Yes isn't that box a good idea?
As for my Cinderella comic, I'm paranoid about people stealing my ideas, so I won't go too much into it, but it will basically be an exact adaptation of Charles Perrault's Cinderella which is the most famous version, the one with the fairy godmother and glass slippers. I will keep even all the original dialogue intact (well, translated how I want it), and try to keep the clothing and architecture designs as close to how Perrault may have imagined it, sometime in the 1600's, especially the late 1600's, as that's what clues have given me. I will research it with historians, if I ever get the chance. However, I will try to insert as much personality, feminism, drama, interest, visual amazement, and magic into it. Unfortunately, I can't draw well, so I will either try my darndest to draw it well myself, or get someone to do the drawing for me (based on my original drawings, they would just draw them to look better).
Thank you, and I quite agree! That is really, really interesting they used the same Aeon music from Cinderella's advertising for the whole 2015 films montage! Or did you mean they just used this music for when Cinderella clips were shown?tsom wrote:In addition to what was mentioned, they also showed the Fairy Godmother's costume in the scene when she waved her wand at Cinderella during the dress transformation. No, those videos were only online. They kind of did some behind the scenes of the transformation in the Target exclusive video you get when you put the DMA code in. I loved it.JeanGreyForever wrote:Were those videos included on the blu-ray release?

It's a pity the videos weren't included on the physical disc. There's so much more bonus features that could have been included given the chance. I have the Target version so I will have to rewatch the exclusive featurette and compare it to the videos you posted.
Wow your comics sounds spectacular. I love how you're including the original dialogue because I'm a huge stickler for that. I hope you publish it one day because I would love to read it. I much prefer giving my money to fan works that actually cherished the original content rather than Disney's lackluster efforts nowadays.

I just finished watching this for the first time, and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm a generally cynical person, but I actually rather enjoyed the simplicity and message of kindness and courage. And, dare I say it, I may even like it better than the 1950 film. Plus, Richard Madden is very easy on the eyes.

Thanks for sharing those videos, Duster.
I think the dress transformation was the sequence moviegoers were most looking forward to see, and it did not disapoint one bit. I can't help but wonder, why didn't they include those featurettes on the Blu-ray. They would have been nice. The bonus features included are okay, but short.

Re: Cinderella (2015)
Disney Duster, I believe they used the Aeon music for the majority of the montage.
I would've loved to see the Best Costume Design montage feature the wedding dress and Lady Tremaine's ballgown as well, but I think each movie was only allowed to showcase 4 designs.
I'm a bit surprised and slightly disappointed by how much CGI was used. But they did a great job because I thought many of the buildings in the film were real but enhanced with CGI, including the palace. However, I really should've known. Nowhere in the world is that perfect. Haha.

I think I am on the same page with you JeanGreyForever, that all the bonus features should have been on the physical disc. However, I don't feel the new videos I showed here of the CGI needed to be included. They feel like they are only for the super curious, lol.
Thank you for showing interest in my comic. I hope one day to publish it. A friend of mine has a father who said he would help her publish her Alice in Wonderland comic (not based on the original story, but a new story using the world and characters from Alice in Wonderland. It's cool). But she has yet to even get far on that comic, and that was a long time ago, I don't know if he'd ever help me. It may be a long road till I make my comic, too. At least I can say that most of what I imagine for it, like the basic plan, is there. I hope that I publish it while you and I stay posters here. I consider this the place for Disney.

I am so glad you liked the film! It's ok you liked it better than Walt Disney's version. I think it is better than Walt's version in many ways. However, I still find Walt's Cinderella character the best and for Walt's movie to have more heart and soul, even though this 2015 one does still have heart and soul. Plus I love the designs and effects in Walt's the most.TheSequelOfDisney wrote:I just finished watching this for the first time, and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. As beautiful as the United Kingdom may be, as I have never been there and don't know, I like that they used CGI to create a whole new kingdom instead of an existing one. Cinderella has fictional characters, why not a fictional world? I, too was rather shocked this film didn't get Best Costumes, but when I looked at the ones from Fury Road again, I can see how their win was alright. I think it should have been Cindy's, but I can see why they chose Fury's.Atlantica wrote:Its funny, looking at all those clips makes me feel a bit sad that so much of the movie was CGI ? Your welcome. The dress transformation was my favorite part, just like in the Walt Disney version. What they did was original and creative and incredible and stunning. They really spent a lot of time and effort on it, and actually I read that the reason it was done with such a big to-do was because Kenneth Branagh found out it was Walt Disney's favorite scene. Some people thought it was too CGIed, but I think it was just right.Sicoe Vlad wrote:Thanks for sharing those videos, Duster.I think the dress transformation was the sequence moviegoers were most looking forward to see, and it did not disapoint one bit.
Wow, that is so weird they used that music for the other films, too. I agree those other costumes would've been great to show, too. And I also can't believe they used so much CGI, I thought everything was either physical set or real land and buildings.tsom wrote:Disney Duster, I believe they used the Aeon music for the majority of the montage.

Re: Cinderella (2015)
Hmm I don't know; I get making things look more fairytale, but barely any actual buildings or locations were used it seems ? I just think set building and location use is being pushed out in favour of constant CGI.
This is my opinion of course, just how I feel about things.

I don't really understand why Disney felt the need to only include some deleted scenes on the actual disc and then put the others online. I don't mind digital streaming but I prefer it to have the same content with physical media and vice-versa: not one holding more than the other.Disney Duster wrote:I think I am on the same page with you JeanGreyForever, that all the bonus features should have been on the physical disc. I hope you get the chance to publish your comic then one day. I know two others who started a comic on the 6 classic Disney Princesses and what happens after their happily ever afters (hint: it's not happy at all) and until they publish it officially, they have kept it for free on their online blog. I'm not sure the style of your comic, but theirs is gorgeous because each character is drawn like they were straight from the original movie.

Nooooo I can't stand people ruing the princesses lives. Why do it? I don't wanna read that comic. Sounds like it would rattle my bones as much as that idiot comic writer Brandon Thomas killed Princes Romelle so he could turn Sven into antihero which Voltron doesn't need. I ranted about that and got banned for day cause him and the guy running that forum the producer of Voltron Force are cowards who won't deal with negative criticism. A real man deals with negative criticism head on and doesn't hide from it. The only princess who's happily ever after I would wreck is Ariel by having Eric's kingdom get invaded by Tesco. The idea came from an episode of Time Trumpet on Youtube. Messing with Aurora ,Belle ,or Cinderella would rattle me as much as the death of Della in License to Kill rattle me and I wrote fanfiction on fanfiction.net in which Feliz goes back in time aboard the Moonraker shuttle to save her and another in which was based on Phase IV in which ants develop a hive mind after some eclipse in space. In my story the ants heal both Della and Tracy after sensing the pain in Feliz and James.JeanGreyForever wrote:I don't really understand why Disney felt the need to only include some deleted scenes on the actual disc and then put the others online. I see Atlantica. You have a good opinion. But I wonder if CGI is a good choice instead of real sets for building new worlds, because then it's all new, and also I mean's you don't waste physical resources.
JeanGreyForever, thanks so much for your hopes for my comic. For now, I can't draw as well as how Disney hand-drawn characters look, but I hope to improve and draw my characters as looking completely real, not stylized. If I can't do that, I will try to hire someone to do it. I actually have a friend who said he might draw for me, and I offered to pay him, but he has stopped liking drawing so much, so I don't know. It would be nice to see that princess comic online you spoke of. Can I have a link? But I must say, I don't see how they could ever publish the comic, because of Disney copyrights!

Be warned that there is some graphic content on there, especially blood and violence and even shocking character deaths because this isn't a happily ever after story. Normally that would deter me but the artwork is just so beautiful that I would at least check it out for the art even if the story proves to be too much. I know you like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty especially, so you'll be pleased to see that the three classic princesses (Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora) get the most screentime, even if that equates to tragedy.

I guess that, since I don't have a reverence for the film (I like it, but I didn't grow up watching it on repeat), it's "easier" for me to like the new film. Though, I did miss the songs from the 1950 film, and I thought the destroying of her mother's dress and the transformation scene was better and more magical in the original.Disney Duster wrote:I am so glad you liked the film! I read some of that on Deviant art. I don't like it. I wish I could draw the princesses. I just got a learn to draw book from Michaels about how to draw the princesses

Re: Cinderella (2015)
Thanks JeanGreyForever, I checked out the first chapter and it is drawn so beautifully and accurately! I can't draw that well, but maybe someday I could, or find someone who can. I may check out the rest of the chapters later. Is it complete or still in progress?
TheSequelOfDisney, I understand, but even as an avid fan of Walt's Cinderella I love the new version! And I did find the dress ripping and transformation best in Walt's version as well. However, I'm not a fan of Walt's Cinderella's songs. As I've grown up, I think Rodgers and Hammerstein's songs are better. Except maybe for "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes", that song is magical, even though I'm actually still not crazy about that one either.
