Lady and the Tramp is the next platinum, your opinions?

I love "Lady and the Tramp." I'm seriously thinking about buying it on 2-disc DVD. If I do, it will be my first PE.

If I don't, I will get "The Little Mermaid" so either way I'm looking at my first PE DVD by the end of 2006.

How could you not want to own Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Aladdin?! Snow White and Beauty aren't at the top of my list, but I can't imagine any Disney DVD collection or really any DVD collection not having these, even with compression, aspect ratio, or fluff considerations.

Because I already have them on video. Also, because they came out before I had a DVD player (I jumped on the DVD bandwagon a little late)and now they're "retired."

Don't mean to be rude, but the "I've already got them on video" attitude isn't going to get you far DVD-wise. I used to go through this phase, and I missed out on some DVDs while they were still in print (Fantasia being suspect here). You'll feel really bad that you missed out on some when you could have bought them.

You should still be able to find The Lion King (it went out of print a few weeks ago but is probably still in a number of shops) and Aladdin and Bambi are also out at the moment. Seriously, go and buy them. Plus, with videos, on a number of the platinum films (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King and Lady and the Tramp), you're losing picture thanks to the pan and scan process of converting widescreen (DVD and cinema) to fullscreen (TV). Take a look in this picture and you'll understand (top being widescreen, bottom being fullscreen):

I don't think videos are all that good. Buy the currently available platinums now or you'll be kicking yourself wishing you bought them when they're only available on E-Bay, with many being bootlegs.

I can see some points, I have a ton of VHS and am slowly getting everything I own, plus all new movies I like on DVD.

I did just get Beauty & the Beast PE off eBay, but as for Aladdin/Lion King, I don't plan to buy them anytime soon on DVD as I never watch them and I have them on VHS. I'm trying to get my favorites first and then when they re-release them, if I find I really want them, I'll buy them on DVD. I'm only into getting my favorites on DVD, and most of the older stuff, not to own the entire Disney colletion.

My first PE was The Lion King. I have the PE of The Lion King, Aladdin and Bambi. I didn't have a DVD player when the first 2 came out. I'm planning on getting Cinderella in October.

I believe Disney is definetly focusing on the younger age group because that is their biggest audience and they are more likely to buy the movies that they know and have heard of. I dont know of many grandparents or older folks who would go buy a Disney DVD for themselves. They might because it was one of their favorites when they were young but I doubt its on their top priorities of things to do.

Also another reason why they have waited so long to release The Little Mermaid on Platinum DVD is because it has been out on DVD before. They need to release the ones that havent first.

Definetly do! Dont think twice. Some of the later Disney movies are just as good as the earlier ones. All the Platinums are good or they wouldnt be on the list. Let me know what she thinks about them once you get them and watch them!

chaychay102royal you should definately get the Platinum Editions which are available while you still can because once their gone, their gone. Your only source then would be the net which gets quite pricey.

Well, she remembers most of the early ones when they came out!

She introduced them to me when I was little, but I often rent them now to enjoy again and decided if it's one I want to own or not.

Oh goodness, there are so many of the older ones that are so great.

The classics, like Pollyanna, Swiss Family Robinson, The Parent Trap...

I love Herbie(s), Moon Spinners, That Darn Cat, Summer Magic...

The old animations, except for Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland.

I adore The Reluctant Dragon and the moose short thats on the VHS behind TRD.

That's just to name a few! I've seen other live action Disney and I can't think of any that I didn't like, just some I'd not buy.

Wow! I havent seen anywhere close to that many original classics. Like Swiss Family Robinson, The Parent Trap, or That Darn Cat. I should probably rent a couple. Ive seen all their remakes though if that counts! LOL!

Lady and The Tramp will probablly come out in 2006, so stay calm patient and collected. It will be eventually released. Just breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out etc.etc.etc.

Actually Lady and the Tramp has been confirmed to be released March 7, 2006. After Cinderella, it will be the next Platinum.

EDIT: I just realized this. Also, we are typing in a topic entitled, 'Lady and the Tramp is the next platinum...'
