OT for a bit: Yeah, movies like this do hurt breeds, not just rare ones. White German Shepherds are "rare" because:
A: They have so many genetic diseases and issues they die early or have trouble being bred.
B: They are so expensive because they are "rarer", but they are only "rarer" because they die sooner
Sure, they are pretty, but the negatives outweigh the positives. Simply put, German Shepherds were never meant to be white. Black German Shepherds tend to have the same pros and cons of "normal" shepherds. But white shepherds, due to their genes have more cons. Understand that genes can cause several things. For instance, Dachshunds, Bassets, Corgis, and Munchkin cats, all short legged breeds, tend to have terrible heart problems. Reason is, the same genes that causes short legs, causes heart problems.
Well, the same genes that causes a shepherd to be white, cause skin problems, eye problems, and a host of other internal organ problems. IMO, if someone wants a white dog, adopt/buy one that is naturally white due to a long breeding history. White German Shepherds have always happened in the past, often they were culled (killed) way back when, because they were not good breeding stock. But now, bad breeding stock in in. Pugs and Pekenises have eyeballs that literally pop out, but apparently, people like the bug eyed look. Pit bulls are being bred to be 100lbs, when they should only be 60lbs and they wonder why they get hip dysplasia so bad.
I can't say I saw a large influx of wolf-dogs with Balto. I can say at the time Balto came out, I was babysitting for a family, a boy and a girl, and the parents were rich and their kids wanted a wolf-dog because of Balto. They got a white female, named her Jenna. Because she was part wolf, she did not always take easy to domestic dog things like being in a house 24/7, on a leash, etc. She got destructive. So they locked her in a cage, all the time. She started to get aggressive and I stopped babysitting. Not only for my safety but also, all I could see in my head was that hybrid getting out, killing the kids and I'd get blamed. Screw that. They ended up putting it in the shelter a few months later when it tried to attack the kids. DUH!
The ironic part about Nemo....it was a movie about fish trying to get out of a captive life and into the sea. And yet it influenced people to get "Nemos" to keep in captive tanks. I don't blame Disney/Pixar for that one. The story was obviously saying the fish weren't happy. But people overlooked that and bought them anyways. Same thing happened with Happy Feet, you see how miserable he was in captivity and how the penguins born there are zombies, but everytime I go to Sea World I hear kids yell, "Happy Feet!" in the penguin exhibit. Ironic.
BOT:
On Bolt's overall design. He looks like one of those dogs from DOG, the photographs of the dogs with big heads, lol. And not only is his head too big, but holy monkeys, his nose is HUGE!. WTH? The ears are pretty good, German Shep puppies always have HUGE ears, because they grow into them. Here is a good pic of a white one
